-Best selling YA novelist of The Spiderwick Chronicles, Holly Black, will be writing this series.

-In preparation for the upcoming Fox television series based on Lucifer, this ongoing sees Lucifer and his brother, Gabriel, stuck on Earth, tending bar and attempting to solve the mystery of their father’s murder.  That father, by the way, is God.

Squadron SupremeSquadron Supreme #1

-Following the success of last week’s Scarlet Witch #1, James Robinson launches another ongoing Marvel title.

-Spins out of the Secret Wars tie-in miniseries, Squadron Sinister!

-If you’re not familiar with the Squadron Supreme, they are essentially the evil Justice League of the Marvel Universe!

-In their current iteration, the Squadron Supreme are assembled from survivor’s of dead worlds.  They blame The Avengers and have set out to systematically destroy each  member.

Weirdworld #1Weirdworld

-If something doesn’t have a proper place in the Marvel Universe, it goes to Weirdworld!

-Spins out of Jason Aaron’s Weirdworld miniseries!

-Sam Humphries (Star-Lord, Planet Hulk, Avengers) takes over for Jason Aaron, but the extraordinaire Mike del Mundo continues on as artist.

-Trapped and alone after a plane crash, young teen Becca must learn how to survive in Weirdworld.

Huck #1Huck #1

-Some think he’s a blowhard, some think he’s a genius, either way it can not be denied that Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Kingsmen, Jupiter’s Legacy, The Ultimates, Civil War) makes interesting comics!

-Millar is the master of subverting the formulas and tropes of comics, which is exactly what he’s back to do here.

-In line with the lighter tone Millar showcased in Chrononauts, Huck is about a smalltown resident with superhuman powers.  Instead of saving the world, Huck simply helps out his neighbors.  Or, at least, he does until the media gets wind of him.

-Millar’s story is brought to life by the exquisite painterly artwork of Rafael Albuquerque (Ei8ht, American Vampire, Animal Man).

Batman Europa #1 (of 4)Batman Europa

-Superstar comic artist, Jim Lee (Justice League, Batman, Superman Unchained), returns to the Dark Knight!

-A long gestating miniseries, Batman Europa features the combined talents of American writer Brian Azzarello and Italian writer Matteo Casali.

-Each of issue will feature a different artist, again crossing the pond by alternating between American and Italian talents.

-If that abundance of talent hasn’t hooked you yet, the premise will.  Batman, infected by a deadly virus, must team up with the Joker and travel to Europe to find the cure.

-Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman return to The Mighty Thor, continuing to follow the story of Jane Foster as Thor!

-Also returning this week is Sam Humphries Star Lord series.  Wait, who?  Star Lord, man!

-If you haven’t been reading Ms. Marvel, one of Marvel‘s best ongoing series, then this new #1 is your chance to jump on!

-After outing her superhero identity to her mother and almost kissed her best friend, Kamala now also has to deal with being a full-time Avenger!

All New All Different Marvel Part 2Spider-Woman #1

-How do you stop evil when the weapon you use is dangerously addictive?  That’s the question that plagues the Black Knight.

-Many customers have been excited for the new Black Knight series, largely because he will be traveling to the Weirdworld Jason Aaron introduced in Secret Wars.

-Pulp’s own, Dennis Hopeless, relaunches his hit Spider-Woman series this week, but with one major difference.

-Reuniting with artist Javier Rodriguez, Hopeless is writing a considerably pregnant Spider-Woman.  Jessica is also not taking any guff from those who think she should take it easy.

-Another new ongoing series from one of comics’ best writers, Brian K. Vaughn (Y the Last Man, Saga, We Stand on Guard, Ex Machina)!

-Vaughn is joined by stylistic maestro, Cliff Chiang, fresh off of his epic from of Wonder Woman!  Chiang is bringing all of the eighties, neon nostalgia to this period series.

-Set in the late 1980s, Paper Girls follows four adolescent teenage girls who stumble into a mystery that will change their lives forever.

-Issue #1 is oversized at forty pages, but still sports a price tag of $2.99!

All New All Different Marvel Week OneDoctor Strange

-Invincible Iron Man #1 spearheads the relaunch of the Marvel Universe, featuring a fresh take on Tony as he remodels his suit and his life.  We’ve already read the issue, and loved the poppy dialog and swift pacing of the art!

-Spinning out of the online game, Contest of Champions is an ongoing series that sees deceased and lost Marvel heroes fighting to return to the land of the living on an alternate world called Battlerealm, ruled over by Maestro Hulk!

-Dan Slott returns to Amazing Spider-Man, but presents a new spin on Peter Parker that edges closer to James Bond than the frazzled nerd of Spider-Mans past.

-If you pick up one new Marvel series next week, make it Doctor Strange!  Written by KC local, Jason Aaron (Scalped, Star Wars, Thor, Weirdworld, Southern Bastards), Doctor Strange #1 sees Stephen Strange coming to a harsh realization that magic has an equal and opposite cost.  In effect, casting spells becomes a rare, dangerous occurrence that must be weighed carefully.  Oh, and the use of a battleaxe becomes way more prevalent!
