Baseball Highlights 2045 requires some explanation.  So, in 2032 baseball games were shortened to six innings and cybernetic implants are standard.  Then in 2041 fully robotic players became a standard.  Now, in 2045, human players still exist (called Naturals), but they are outnumbered by robotic players.  Pit your team against another opponent in this one to four player game, but make sure to have a balance of athletic abilities, as naturals can do certain things that robots can not.

Power Play Schemes and SkullduggeryIn Power Play you begin with some grand design and some supernaturla powers and connections.  How you will accomplish your goals, who you will use, and what you will need to are dependent on your actions.  A competitive narrative game, which means you will use traditional RPG-style actions, Power Play does not require a game master, just a group of four to eight players to act as villainous masterminds vying for control.Timeline Challlenge

Coming up on Channel A is a new program for fans of anime and manga, ready-made for party gaming!

Recently run through the distributor system following a successful Kickstarter run, Channel A is another in a long line of Apples to Apples style party games.  In the case of Channel A, players are selecting multiple cards, each with a uniquely anime-esque words, and using them to pitch a new anime show to the rest of the group.  Votes are taken and points are assigned based on majority.

If there’s a cult following bigger than fans of zombie stuff, it’s fans of Cthulhu stuff.

From the makers of Zombies!!!, the highly popular zombie outbreak survival game, comes Cthulhu!!!:  Hastur La Vista Baby!  Similar to Zombies!!!, players control hardened Elder God exterminators attempting to halt the return of an creature from beyond by sanctifying ritual sites.  However, the threat of insanity looms large over everyone thrust into the middle of this horrific setting.  Can you hold out?

Flash Point is jumping in the drink with its newest set of expansion boards, Dangerous Waters.

In this expansion are two double-sided game boards with representations of a submarine and a sunken ship, offering an entirely original environment for players to experience.  Any safety provided by the above-ground buildings of all the previous sets is now out-the-window, so to speak, raising the stakes in this popular cooperative game.

Newly arrived and quickly disappearing from the shelves is Magic the Gathering‘s most recent Duel Deck, Jace vs. Vraska.

Hotly anticipated, this duel deck retails for $19.99, but contains cards with values which far exceed the price.  As well, these duel deck sets are always perfect introductory products for new Magic players, giving them a fully built deck to play as well as one to give an opponent.

A supplement to the Chaos Space Marine’s Codex, the recently released Crimson Slaughter Codex provides information about unique artifacts and options for your existing Chaos Space Marines army.  As well, it provides a unique story that’s never before been told in the Warhammer 40K materials.

Legend of the Five Rings makes a major comeback this weekend with the launch of a freshly designed base set, the Ivory Edition, anchored by four new booster pack releases and a set of nine starter decks.  The classic nine clans are represented, including crab, scorpion, crane, and all the rest.

Somebody really needs to Asmadi Games to start play testing these games they’re releasing.

In the mean time, here’s another We Didn’t Playtest This edition, this time known as We Didn’t Playtest This Pasted-On Theme at All!  Adding another batch of original cards, this expansion also includes stick-on (paste not included) themes like zombie, pirate, elves, and more.  Not only do these themes make each card snazzier than before, they also change the endgame scenario.

While we’re on the topic of expansions, the popular education series, Timeline, gains another themed expansion this weekend.  Timeline: Music & Cinema plays just like the previous versions of the game with players attempting to lay cards from their hand in chronological order without seeing the dates.  In this specific expansion, all the cards relate to major moments or works in the music and film industries.

A loving homage to classic Dungeons & Dragons, Luke Crane’s Torchbearer RPG HC is all dungeon crawling all the time.

Building off of the Burning Wheel and Mouse Guard roleplaying systems, Torchbearer deals in deep, dank dungeons, heroic adventurers, and a hunt for glory.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler has finally swing his way into the Legendary deck-building game, and he’s brought along friends.  Another mini-expansion for Marvel‘s successful DBG, Paint the Town Red (trust us, the contents are better than the title) includes cards for the Black Symbiote Spider-Man, Moon Knight, Black Cat, Scarlet Spider, and Spider-Woman as well as Mastermind cards for Carnage and Mysterio.

The Avengers are dead.  Long live The Avengers!

After Brian Michael Bendis’ lengthy run on, basically, ever Avengers comic for the last ten years, it’s out with the old blood and in with the new as Johnathon Hickman takes over.  Riding a wave of success off of his acclaimed Fantastic Four run and current run on Manhattan Projects for Image, Hickman claims to be having the time of his life writing this new Avengers series.  If the writer’s having fun, that usually bodes pretty well for the book.  Plus, Hickman’s not leaving anything on the drawing room floor as he’s jam-packed his Avengers team with nearly twenty members, including Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, to name a few.  If you’re going to pick up any Marvel NOW! book to get a taste of the reboot, this is it.

Read the next book with extreme prejudice.  Thunderbolts #1 is an assemblage of the lean,  mean, and extreme combining the toughest customers the Marvel Universe has to offer.  That includes Venom, Elektra, Red Hulk, The Punisher, and Deadpool.  The Red Hulk leads the team, but only as much as you can lead nutjobs like Frank Castle and Wade Wilson.  Written by Daniel Way, who’s been running the Deadpool book for the last four years, this series is certain to be spilling over with blood, guts, and guffaws.  Steve Dillon, artist on Garth Ennis’ legendary run on The Punisher series, lends his pencils to the book, which means both creators have ties to characters on the team and that makes for a good read.

The future is not a happy place in Image Comics‘ new post-apocalyptic series, Blackacre.  From the new creative team of Duffy Boudreau and Wendell Cavalcanti, the series focuses a lone, retired soldier, Hull, who must venture forth from behind the protective barrier of his home city, Blackacre.  Beyond the walls lie creatures and cults beyond recognition, all of which are ready to eat him alive.  Readers of Prophet and Planetoid will find a similar narrative of survival here, as Hull has to outlast and outlive the terrain and terrors of the wasteland.

Mike Mignola returns to the character that made his career, Hellboy, this next Wednesday.  Not only is Mignola writing the series, but he’s also drawing the character for the first time in ten years.  Of course, if he’s going to return to the series, there has to be an amazing reason.  Hellboy in Hell #1 begins a new miniseries where Hellboy has died and returned home, along with the entirety of Great Britain.  And if you don’t know, Hellboy, as the son of the devil, has a throne waiting for him in the underworld, one that he’s not too keen to take back.  Like Halley’s comet, Hellboy comics don’t come around too often, especially not by its creator, so be sure to grab a copy and get your Big Baby fix.
