String SafariThe String Railway has reached its final stop, and that is the zoo.  From the makers of String Railway comes String Safari, a quick, easy-to-learn family game for three to five players.  In the game, players will attempt to corral wayward zoo animals that have gotten loose.  To do this, players will strategically weave plastic strings around card representing the animals.  Each animal also has a specific value that will result in victory points.Star Wars Age of Rebellion Strongholds of Resistance

Fight back against the oppression of the Galactic Empire with Strongholds of the Resistance.  This sourcebook expansion for Age of Rebellion includes profiles for the major worlds and hidden bases that conceal agents of the Rebellion, three new species options, new weapons, equipment, and vehicles, as well as four modular encounters that include these new supplements.

MottainaiIn Mottainai, each player is a worker in a Buddhist temple, creating works to display and sell to the visitors and tourists who come by.  These works are made of materials of varying value (determining both the difficulty to complete the work and its worth to you).  Completed works can be displayed in your gallery to train your helpers, or in your gift shop to allow you to make sales.  Running off of the Glory to Rome system, Mottainai is a cheap, easy card game for two to three players.Imperial Settlers Atlanteans

The first expansion for Imperial Settlers is out this weekend.  Imperial Settlers:  The Atlanteans gains players access to a brand new faction with its own goals and method of development.  Also included are cards to expand the base game factions, as well as the Magic the Gathering Commander Seize Controlcommon deck with new traits and card types compatible with the Atlanteans.

Expanding the already popular Commander/EDH format for Magic the Gathering, Wizards of the Coast have released five new pre-build Commander Decks for this year.  As with previous releases, each deck represents one of the five mana colors and includes a completely new Commander card.  Outside of using these commanders in that format, players may also incorporate them into their Legacy, Vintage, or casual decks.Kittens in a Blender

Long out of print, Kittens in a Blender is finally back!  Yes, the kittens are cute.  Yes, there is a blender they may fall into.  And, yes, blending could occur.  Make sure that doesn’t happen by competing against your opponents to save your kittens and turn the blender to high speed when their kitties are in it.  Better yet, Kittens in a Blender receives an expansion with its reprinted Fire and Axe A Viking Sagaversion called More Kittens in a Blender (duh!).

The swarthy viking lifestyle is realized in IDW GamesFire and Axe:  A Viking Saga.  In the game, you will vie for glory across a series of epic sagas (i.e. missions).  Each saga is a different journey to raid, trade, and settle territories.  Will you choose the path of diplomacy and trade for victory?  Or will your longship cast a bloody wake?  Start your journey by gathering crew and goods to outfit your boat.  After you launch from bustling ports into the open sea, you must choose your path to power.Poseidon's Kingdom

An inventive family gaming experience, Poseidon’s Kingdom is set under the sea and has players controlling various underwater creatures on a mission to rescue their friends from the evil Kraken.  The dice rolling element of the game is where the inventiveness comes in.  Instead of simply rolling dice, the game implements a “wave” dice tower that literally rolls along the game board, depositing dice as it goes.  The Pirates of the 7 Seasplacement and numerical values determine elements in the game.

Another inventive dice rolling game for the whole family, Pirates of the 7 Seas (also from IDW Games) uses dice to represent pirate ships.  Players roll the dice directly into the lid of the tin box the game comes in.  Where they land and what ships are showing determines whether each player controls vagabond scallywags or government sympathizers.  You’ll then sail around the game board, collecting treasure and consulting with shamans to curse other players.Ghostbusters the Board Game

Mass hysteria, dogs and cats living together!  All because Cryptozoic‘s successfully Kickstarted Ghostbusters Board Game has finally hit shelves.  Similar to Last Night on Earth, players will cooperatively control one to four of the iconic Ghostbusters attempting to catch ghosts and seal spectral gates.  The game is modular, allowing players to build the game board to their liking.  As well, all the 7 Wonders Duelcharacters and ghosts are represented by detailed miniatures.  And, yes, their is a Stay-Puft Marshmellow Man.

Even though original 7 Wonders can be played with two players, that mode is more of a learning tool than an actual competitive experience.  7 Wonders Duel, on the other hand, is an exclusively head-to-head, two player variation of the game.  The same drafting mechanics are in play, but altered to suit fewer players.  As well, an original military system has been implemented that incorporates a sliding battle board.  Whether your a fan of 7 Wonders or a couple who needs a new two player game, 7 Wonders Duel is for you.

D&D Dungeons Dragons Icons of the Realms Starer Set MiniaturesSince most of tonight’s post is mostly populated by Magic the Gathering product, we’ll start out with the two non-Magic related items.

First up, is the second item release for Dungeons & Dragons aka D&D Next aka D&D 5.0 is out this weekend.  The Icons of the Realm miniature set for the D&D Starter Set includes pre-painted miniatures for each of the six character classes, including cleric, fighter, wizard, and more.

High Command Invasion of SulA new expansion for the Warmachine Deck Building Game, High Command, Invasion of Sul includes nearly 100 new cards to be incorporated into the base game.  The 100 cards included in the set allow players to participate in and shape the outcome of the war of Sul, possibly changing the face of the Iron Kingdoms forever!Pathfinder Rise of Runelords Spires of Xin Shalast

Announcing the end of the Rise of the Runelords adventure for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, the Spires of Xin-Shalast is out this weekend.  Including 110 cards that comprise the entirety of five additional scenarios as well as locations, loot, and monsters.  And while supplies last, Pulp has special promo cards that come with each purchase.

Pack of Heroes card gameInspired by Sentinels of the Multiverse and playing like comic book version of Magical Athlete, Pack of Heroes is a fast playing, two player superhero card game.  Divided into two phases, Pack of Heroes first has players compete in a drafting game.  Thirty heroes are represented by trading card-esque cards with stats and powers.  After drafting has finished, players battle with their hero decks in order to decide Ork Mek Warhammer 40Kthe greatest superhero of all!

Since the Orks are Warhammer‘s favorite child at the moment, two more brand new Ork miniatures are out this weekend.  First up is the heavily armed Ork Big Mek, Star Wars Joins Us or Die Force Packdisplayed to the right.  The second figure this weekend is the Ork Painboy.

Join Us or Die is the fourth Force Pack release for the Echoes of the Force cycle in the Star Wars Living Card Game from Fantasy Flight.  As per the usual, this expansion contains around sixty additional cards, including two fate cards as well as ten objective sets.Star Wars X-Wing Wave 4 Ships

Remaining in a Fantasy Flight galaxy far, far away, the X-Wing miniature battle game finally receives its fourth wave of ships.  This fourth wave provides two new ships for both the rebel and empire factions, including the E-Wing and Z-95 for the rebels and the Tie Phantom and Tie Defender for the empire.

Ticket to Ride 10th Anniversary EditionThough it feels like only yesterday, Ticket to Ride is turning ten years old this weekend!  To commemorate the game’s lengthy existence and dominance as one of the top family board games ever, Days of Wonder has released a special 10th Anniversary Edition of the base game.  A complete collector’s item, this edition of the game comes with the United States game board that is double the size of the original with completely new illustrations.  As well, the identical plastic trains of the original game have been replaced by unique, painted plastic train miniatures, each representing a different train car and era.

Black Friday is not a day for words, but for action.  In that spirit, here is the least wordy edition of New Game Stuff you will ever run across.

Game Mastery has deposited in our laps two new wonderful accessory products.  First being the Magic Academy Map Pack.  It’s maps for the Magic Academy, nothing more to say.

Second is the Warehouse Flipmat.  Again, self explanatory.

Also on the quick mention list is the new Small World: Tunnels mini-expansion.  This allows you to combine the boards for Small World and Small World Underground.  But you will have had to purchase a copy of either game at the store to get it.

Super Dungeon Explore is happy good time fun!  Amendment to that last part: especially if you’re an avid fan of 8-bit games and dungeon crawling.

Combining the two, Super Dungeon Explore has players selecting a party (like from a video game select screen) then exploring a multi-roomed dungeon collecting treasures and bashing monsters.  Coming with some absolutely snazzy looking cartoony miniatures, if you’ve got two or more players, this game will supply a good time.

Thinking about getting into Warmachine?  Well, much in line with the Assault on Black Reach box for Warhammer or the Beginner Box for Pathfinder, the new Two-Player Battle Box has everything you’ll need for two folks to get into the game.  That “everything” includes a rules primer, dice, ruler, and 17 miniatures between the Khador and Protectorate of Menoth factions, along with their stat cards.

Put your elves, dwarfs, and gnomes to work in the worker placement game known as Belfort.  This quaint fantasy burg needs some reconstruction, which luckily each of the previously mentioned creatures are uniquely able to provide.  Gnomes can run the city, dwarfs can supply wood, while combinations of these guys can result in other point-earning activities.  From Tasty Minstrel Games (makers of Martian Dice), who have been producing some addictive games of late, Belfort could be considered a Carcassonne on crack.

Heading back to the world of Warmachine, the new Hordes: Domination rulebook brings the new freshness.  Including new rules and information on warlocks, the Hordes saga, and new Theme Forces.  Keep pace with the cool kids and pick up a book!

Speaking of books containing dark, deadly, bleakness, here’s the new Deathwatch: First Foundry hardcover.  This book contains a lot of nines.  Nine Space Marine Loyalist chapters.  Nine Traitor Legions as well.  There’s also four chapters left out of the previous Deathwatch editions.  Futuristic pessimism has never looked so good.

Finally, we end on the first expansion for the popular Quarriors! dice/deck building game.  Rise of the Demons introduces 20 new dice and the corruption mechanic (think curse cards in Dominion) where players attempt to clog up their opponents dice bags with a bunch of useless corruption dice.  It’s on now, peoples!

Lists are kinda great.  Lets all celebrate lists with one about the abundance of restock items that Pulp received.

  • Lost Cities bordgame (Yipee!  It’s back in print!)
  • A Game of Thrones LCG (new expansion comes later in the post)
  • Mayday sleeves
  • Savage Worlds Explorers Edition
  • Pathfinder – Gnomes of Golarion, Orcs of Golarion, Halflings of Golarion, Inner Sea Primer (new expansions come later in the post)
  • L5R RPG Emerald Empire & Enemies of the Empire
  • Magic the Gathering Deck Boxes in a multitude of colors, sleeves, and Ultra-Pro 9-Pocket card hardcases
  • A ton of paint
  • Warmachine – Most battlegroups, rule books for most factions, and Ripjaw, Lancer, and Revenger.

Also, not a restock, but a quick blurb for the new issue of White Dwarf.

If you’re picking up any of the Warmachine, Warhammer, or any minis at all, you might want to take a look at the Rare Earth Magnets.  These are designed to hold miniatures onto bases with extreme magnetic force.  Seriously, these things attract each other through the two layers of plastic container they’re held in.  I’d bore you with the dimensions, but there’s a lot.  Basically, whatever size you think you’d need, they make.

¿Dónde está el Fluxx Español? En Pulp Fiction!  Yes, in the long line of Fluxx editions, there is now a Spanish version.  Not only is every card in Spanish, but the art and box are different.  Might I recommend, if you are a Spanish teacher, whether in high school, college, or elementary, this would be a perfect game to use as a teaching aid in class.  Simplemente decir.

A major release for this week, Dwarf King’s Hold drops onto shelves.  Why is this such a big bad?  Well, inside the box there is not only a fantastic two player dungeon crawl/battle game that has players taking control of undead and dwarf forces, but also 32 miniatures.  The game builds on the six included scenarios, each leading up to an epic final battle.  Also, the tiles included can be arranged as the player or scenario deems acceptable to form different maps for each style of play.  Whether you’re looking for an exciting two player game, a bunch of gnarly minis, or both, you should aim your peepers at Dwarf King’s Hold.

You wants some attitude? How ’bout I play Dr. Know and give you some attitude?  Shadowrun Attitude, in fact.  Following in the treads of all the other futuristic criminal enterprising present in the Shadowrun universe, Attitude fleshes out the finer aspects of life.  You’ll find a Scroll’s worth of information on music, sports, and other activities to keep you busy between Shadowruns.  Don’t be a twinkie, buy it today.

Speaking of scrolls gives me a perfect transition into mentioning a semi-new Fresco expansion, Fresco, The Scrolls.  Technically called Expansion Module 7, this new addition to the Fresco gaming series, adds new, uh, scrolls, bestowed upon you by the bishop.  Each one allows players to tailor the fresco to their own desires, all while earning additional victory points.

Do ye wear a kilt, brotha?  Ye should, men wear kilts.  And te find out if yar a real man, brotha, ya need ta play Lords of Scotland.  Aye, comin’ outta Z-Man games, this wee deck’a cards has ya fighting for the approval of the clans’a Scotland.  If ya gain their loyalty, then yer on yar way ta being crowned king, brotha.  Aye, it’s a game’a champions.  And the short on cash.

Warhammer Fantasy RPG releases another invaluable resource this week with the Omens of War box set.  Inside are contents that will benefit the GM and player, alike.  New careers, fighting styles, rules for mounted combat, and much more sit side by side with deep explanations of the Empire, Knightly Orders, and vicious history of the Old World.  On the game master side of things, information on the Ruinous Power Khorne, his minions, a peak into the Blood God’s strategy, and new severe injury rules are included.  This information comes on top of all the numerous tokens, cards, standups, sourcebooks, and other pieces that are spilling out of this beautiful Warhammer Fantasy box set.

Returning to Pulp’s shelves is the QUERP Rulebook.  No, that’s not another Spanish word, it’s an acronym for Quick Easy Role Playing.  Intended for beginning roleplayers or veterans who are looking to run a simple, fast adventure, QUERP contains every detail players and game masters need to build a world, create characters, and play.  Simple, quick, easy fantasy in a well made package.

I said they’d be mentioned up top, well here goes.  Pathfinder has both Faiths of Purity and Rule of Fear coming out this week.  What do these colorful Paizo booklets contain?  Glad you asked.  Faiths of Purity leans toward the kind, honest, generally good religions of the Pathfinder world, giving players the ability to create characters in flavor and mechanics.  Rule of Fear, on the other hand, lives in the dark, shadowy nation of Ustalav by offering information on thirteen counties, gazetteers for seven cities, six conspiracies, and eleven adventure locations.  Can you afford to be caught without them?

A Game of Thrones, not just a popular HBO program anymore.  Haha, right?  Yeah, George R.R. Martin’s been turning out books and other GoT product for a long, long time, the A Game of Thrones LCG being just one of example.  As the LCG (living card game) is based around new expansion coming out periodically (in an effort to continually keep the game fresh) the Queen of Dragons expansion adds components based around House Targaryen.  These include 165 cards, new strategies, tactics, and deckbuilding options to help creat two new decks, Fire and Blood and Hosts of the True-Queen.
