Mystic ValeNew this week is one of AEG’s (Love Letter, Smash Up) most-hyped games! Mystic Vale is a 2-4 player “Card-Crafting” Deck builder, in which players take on the roles of druids attempting to cleanse their tainted homelands. Many have played deck builders where you spend resources crafting together the perfect stack of cards, but in Mystic Vale players get to build the cards themselves. With expansions already in the works, do not miss out on this unique and exciting game!

Ascension, War of ShadowsWhile on the topic of deck building games, the grandfather of them all has a new expansion out! Ascension, War of Shadows pushes players into reawakening heroes and constructs of the past and throws some new mechanics in with it. As the balance between light and dark shifts, cards gain additional powers depending on whether it is day or night. Play this as a stand-alone 1-4* player game, or combine War of Shadows with other Ascension games to play up to 6 players.

From Stefan Feld, the creator of Bruges and The Castles of Burgundy, comes Amerigo.

Using a similar randomizing tower to the one in Wallenstein, Amerigo has players dropping differently colored cubes into the tower.  Some cubes will remain inside, others will fall to the bottom, but each cube designates a specific action option for the players of the game.  Strategically using the actions available, players must mine for resources, fight off pirates, discover new lands, and more.

Space is endless, just as the battles that rage among its starry confines.

The popular Kickstarter deck-builder, Eminent Domain grows a little more with the Escalation expansion.  Altering the dynamics of the base game (which is necessary to play), Escalation adds enough role cards to include a fifth player, while also including a new technology as well as a way to play old ones differently.

In Russia Berserk plays you!

Berserk:  War of the Realms, a popular Russian deck-battling game has crossed the Atlantic.  This base set includes six thirty card decks, immediately ready for play, as well as over sixty extra cards for customization later.  Along with the base game, there is also Berserk:  Knights and Villains, both an expansion and a stand-alone game, that has players choosing a side (Knight or Villain) at the start of player, then requiring them to choose their forces for the oncoming battle.

Whether she can’na handle any more, cap’n, or not, Star Trek Attack Wing continues to add more ships to the fleet.  This weekend, both the Federation and Klingon fleets gain vehicles in the form of the USS Defiant and the IKS Koraga, respectively.

Wings of Glory gets Napoleonic with Sails of Glory.

Applying the same mechanics from the popular Wings of Glory fighter plane battle game, Sails of Glory pits ship against ship.  Each player selects special movement cards in secret, then plays them simultaneously with their opponent.  This mechanic causes each opponent to strategically assume where the other ship will be based on possible movement options.  Wind and other elements will also now affect your vehicles, lending the game more reality and difficulty.

The Bestiary grows ever larger!

Another addition to the Pathfinder Pawns line of miniatures and tokens, the Bestiary 3 Box is out this weekend.

The box comes equipped with over two hundred differently illustrated miniature pawns as well as a selection of differently sized bases to match.

The FATE Freeport Companion brings the FATE rule system to a well know (shadily populated) area of the fantasy universe.  This hefty tome contains a special adventure written for the system and set in Freeport, new rules for magic users, stats for creatures and baddies within the local, as well as rules  for an armory’s worth of weapons, tools, and firearms.

Why type about Castellan when I can post a video?

Stefan Feld, creator of Bruges and The Castles of Burgundy, brings Bora Bora to the table today.  A dice-rolling, worker placement game, Bora Bora has players roll dice to gain workers which they must place carefully over a course of limited actions.  The amount of actions per turn is decided by the number of players, anywhere from two to four.

Rise of Augustus, created by Paolo Mori (Pocket Battles), is an objective-based gaming experience where players are dealt six objective cards at the beginning of a game, each of which will be replaced as they are completed.  As objectives are completed, players will earn specific rewards, detailed on each card.  When seven objectives have been completed by a player, the game is over.

And you will walk a thousand miles, and I will walk a thousand more…in Tokaido!  From the creator of 7 Wonders, comes this colorful, beautifully designed and illustrated game about traveling down Japan’s East Sea Road.  The last player in line gets too choose which space they want to move to and complete the action on that space.  Whoever reaches the end of the track first, obtains victory!

With Halloween around the corner, Munchkin inevitably has to release a special seasonal booster.  And low, Munchkin Tricky Treats.  This fifteen card booster pack contains cards, like Zombie Costume, Favorite Machete, and Sparkly Vampire!

Also from Stefan Feld, The Pillars of the Earth:  Builder’s Duel is a new expansion for the game.  The goal is simple:  one player is attempting to build a cathedral, the other a fortress, the player who finishes construction first wins.  But, of course, each must collect materials before building can commence, and in order to do so action cards must be played.

Cubicle 7 continues racing through space and time as they release the Second Doctor Source Book for the Doctor Who RPG!  Each of these source books contain detailed character information for their titular Doctor, his companions, his enemies, and his TARDIS.  Each hardcover also contains plot synopses and adventure details for each episode in the titular Doctor’s seasons, acting as a valuable resource for game master’s as well as avid Doctor Who fanatics.

Goblins where so last season.

The Pathfinder Battles mini assortments have risen from the dead with a brand new (and decaying) Undead Horde assortment.  Like the recent Goblins assortment, each box contains twenty-four random, individual miniatures, hidden in blind bags.  Grab one and take the chance of getting figures like the Graveknight, Wight, Mummy Lord, and Lady Ghoul!

After a long hibernation, the Dirtboys, Gargoyles, and Dukes are back and better than ever!

Shadowrun 5th Edition has been talked about and talked about for months, but now it is here.  The updated and re-illustrated core rulebook is ready to take on a whole new generation of runners!
