Shmowzow!  Is that a completely original Adventure Time graphic novel formatted like the mathematically popular Scott Pilgrim series?

Uh, duh.

Adventure Time:  Playing with Fire is a complete story in a manga-esque digest volume from Boom! Studios, relating a special adventure between Jake, Finn, and Flame Princess.  For the first time ever, Flame Princess has decided to leave the Fire Kingdom, venturing beyond its boundaries in order to find some new thrills.  Spinning out of the highly successful ongoing Adventure Time series, Playing with Fire is drawn by series regular Zack Sterling who’s perfect at aping the look of the television show.  So stop being a lumpy lump butt and pick up a copy.

Following in the footsteps and paw prints of Finn and Jake, Mordecai and Rigby are parking their golf cart in the vicinity of Pulp Fiction.  After Boom! received such a wild reaction to their ongoing and miniseries for Adventure Time (something in the range of Whooooooooooooooooaaaaahh!) they decided to mine Cartoon Network for some other material and came up with Regular Show.  Don’t be a hambone and miss out on the first issue as I’m sure Fist Pump is going to make an appearance.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!

If you haven’t heard, it’s the fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who.  And as the longest running sci-fi show on television turns fifty years old IDW has been turning out some impressive comic adventures for The Doctor.  Namely, Prisoners of Time, which is a twelve issue miniseries starring every incarnation of The Doctor in their own solo adventure.  Now that Doctors one through four have had their issues released, IDW has turned out the volume one trade paperback, collecting the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Doctors’ adventures.  Though each issue is standalone, a dark force is plotting against the Doctor, stealing his companions throughout time, taunting the Doctor to follow him.  Now, though this hasn’t been confirmed, the assumption is that issue twelve of the series will feature all eleven Doctors together, fighting to reclaim their companions.  So, hop onto the TARDIS while you can with Prisoners of Time v.1, because you never know when the next regeneration is coming.

When The Hulk isn’t offering sound psychiatric help (hope you stuck around after the credits), he’s punching a time card for S.H.I.E.L.D.  The Indestructible Hulk v.1 HC smashes into the store this Wednesday, and you’d better take a look at it if you don’t want to make Banner angry.  Written by comic legend Mark Waid (who’s been murdering the hell out of the Daredevil comic for the last two years), Indestructible Hulk revolves around a simple principle:  Bruce Banner doesn’t want to be remembered as a monster anymore, so he’s agreed to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. in return for the opportunity to invent world-changing thingies.  And what happens when he Hulks out?  They point him in the right direction.  High stress environment + scientist who explodes when angered = entertainment.

Legacy: Gears of Time. Ah, there we go. Okay, hop back in…

Since there’s not many time travel games out there, I’m happy to say there’s a new one on the market. Players lay down technology cards…wait, I never said the name of this time travel game…let me jump in my time machine and…cool, now that that’s done…player’s lay down technology cards on a timeline attempting to influence the advancement of machines or impede and alter them. Lovers of the popular Chrononauts game should take a look.

Something you may want a time machine for is to travel into the future to watch The Hobbit trilogy which starts up this December. Sadly, that’s not going to happen, but at least you can play the story in the new Hobbit: Over Hill and Under Hill expansion pack for the Lord of the Rings LCG. The expansion contains three new scenarios set during the time period of The Hobbit stories as well as new heroes, treasures, and player cards that customize your gaming options. So, leave Bagend behind and come explore the mist mountains of The Hobbit.

Ph’nglui Mglw’nafth Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn!

**Cough**

Uh, excuse me, something in my throat. Anyway, who hasn’t wanted to build an eldar god from time to time? No one, that’s who. Well, your wish is Cthulhu’s command with the release of Building an Elder God. Players build their own Cthulhu-y creature to battle against other player’s creatures while healing your own. Playable in fifteen to thirty minutes with two to six players, this is the most fun way to go insane out there.

Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans – The list of threats is endless and no place in the universe is ever truly safe from danger, but there is one man who has made it his mission to defend the defenseless, help the helpless, and save everyone he can: a mysterious stranger, a force of nature who has seen his own planet die, a madman with a box.

In Doctor Who: The Card Game, players act as the Doctor and his companions to defend specific locations while sending the Doctor’s enemies to conquer locations your opponents are trying to protect.

It may come out four days after Free Comic Book Day and it may not be free, but Higher Earth #1 is only a $1 and demands to be read. Written by rising comic genius Sam Humpries, Higher Earth is a triple threat sci-fi/alternate reality/future comic book. Much like the recent popular series Saga, Higher Earth focuses on a young redheaded girl and an ex-soldier must race across a legion of alternate Earths while being threatened by the one Earth that rules them all: Higher Earth. Sam Humpries, as I mentioned, is on the rise after penning books like Our Love is Real and Fanboys vs. Zombies, so I’m sure this is his next great series. And for a $1 how can you pass it up?

Many parents may not realize that there is an abundance of great reading material for children that is not related to any property from Marvel or DC. Brian Michael Bendis, the current writer of The Avengers, recently, in fact, published a graphic novel called Takio about a superteam of sisters designed for younger readers. Because of the book’s success, he is now shifting the story into a new ongoing series. Taki and Olivia, the masked sisters, may squabble and argue, but they eventually have to work together to take down Kelly Sue, their newest enemy and ex-friend, who gained special abilities around the same time the girls did. With poppy, cartoony artwork from frequent Bendis collaborator, Michael Avon Oeming, this series will be a great introduction to comics for any young reader.

Can’t say I regularly get the urge to hug the TARDIS. But this little beauty may change that.

Yes, following after the talking plush Dalek from last year (a blue version comes out this Wednesday), the TARDIS is getting in on the cuteness trend.

The new squeezable, huggable, noise-making TARDIS plush comes out Wednesday and will likely be gone the same day…and not because it will vanish into the time vortex, if you get my meaning.

52 titles apparently are not enough for DC Comics.

Starting this week, a new wave of DC comics is cropping up to fill the spots left by the canceled New 52 books. Each of these new books flesh out the universe by bringing in characters previously unmentioned by the first wave.

Primary among the second wave is Earth 2. Written by legendary comic author James Robinson (Starman, The Shade), Earth 2 will focus on an alternate version of the DC Universe where the major superheroes faced off a cataclysmic event and were permanently changed forever. Following, not only these versions of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, but also the Alan Scott Green Lantern and Jay Garrick Flash. For those who’ve missed JSA will find that familiar itch scratched with this series.

The other two DC series to launch this week will be Dial H and World’s Finest. Dial H will be the first comic written by popular crime novelist China Mieville. A reworking of a cult classic series, Dial H will follow different individuals as they encounter a special dial with gives them random superpowers each time they turn it on. Gaining buzz as the underdog favorite of the new batch, Dial H should be picked up by anyone who loves off-kilter series like Xombi, BPRD, and Resurrection Man. World’s Finest, on the other hand, is a classic team-up book starring the Power Girl and Huntress of Earth 2.

Speaking of the New 52, the first group of hardcovers and trade paperbacks ship this Wednesday. Personally, I am making it a mission to sell every single copy of the first volume of Animal Man by Wednesday night. And I don’t plan to do this out of any greedy desire, but instead because this is the best book being released from DC right now. A wonderful blend of family drama and horrific, otherworldly creatures and adventures, Animal Man delivers sympathy and scares all in one twisted package. A wholly unique read, this series should not be ignored.

Lastly, because I’m tired, here’s a cool picture of a cool Doctor Who item coming in this Wednesday.

Grab your mittens, because tonight we’re going to be Russian it!

That pun would work so much better if this first item related to Russia in some way.

Hmm…the Doctor has traveled through all of time and space, so he must have visited Russia at some point. And when he did, without a doubt he arrived in his “sexy”, or TARDIS, for the uninformed. You, too, can get the warm fuzzies from this time and space traveling vehicle if you pick up the new TARDIS Plush coming out this Wednesday. Give the police box a hug and it will reciprocate with the standard VOOSH, VOOSH and light blinking associated with the time machine. Keep your plush Dalek company by picking this guy up.

The title pretty much says it all for this next one. That’s right, folks, Fanboys vs. Zombies drops this Wednesday with a gurgling, meaty thud. With Sam Humpries, writer of the brilliant Our Love is Real one-shot, penning the series, a setting rich with humour and heavy objects with which to bash the undead, and a cover price of $1, there is absolutely no reason to skip this book! Seriously, it’s costumed nerds and nerdettes smashing and slicing zombified geeks, how can you go wrong?

Arriving back on shelves after a long printing hiatus, Flex Mentallo, one of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely earliest creations. This deluxe edition reprints all of Flex’s psychedelic appearances in Doom Patrol as well as his own miniseries. Since the character as been under legal contention for a number of years, it’s a wonderful reward to see this cult classic series be reprinted in a hardcover, deluxe edition. Grab it before it disappears again.

The first rule of Danger Club is that we…DO talk about Danger Club. A lot, actually. Why? Because this book looks like a hell of a good time! Written by the team behind recent children’s comic successes like Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade and Batman Brave and the Bold, Danger Club rocks the epic! With the world’s greatest superheroes vanishing into space with the threat of an oncoming alien invasion on the horizon, the world’s sidekicks are left as the planet’s only defense. Violence, gore, and apocalyptic action spill out of the the beautifully vivid artwork and riveting narrative. Miss out on it and you miss out on the next Image Comics success story.
