Let’s see if our “beloved” distributor can accomplish a holiday miracle and actually ship us what we ordered this week. If they manage to do so, here’s some of the awesome items to drop next week.

Because it demands to be mentioned first, there is a plethora of Sonic Screwdriver merchandise coming in. And not just the normal 10th or 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver, no. This time around you get them both…plus a whole lot more. Yes, folks, with the new Doctor Who Personalize Your Sonic Screwdriver kit you can build up to 80 different versions of the Sonic Screwdriver. That’s Matt Smith’s, David Tennant’s, and about every other Doctor you can think of. But wait because it comes in pieces it probably doesn’t make all the cool sound effects the other screwdrivers have, right? Wrong! And if that wasn’t enough, we’re also getting in the Master’s Laser Screwdriver (Pictured to the left) and a restock on River Song‘s Future Sonic Screwdriver. Pick these babies up while you can, because with gift giving in full swing they will go fast.

And if that’s not enough timey wimey-ness for you, then you’ll just have to check out the Doctor Who Ongoing v.2 trade paperback (and don’t worry if you didn’t get the first volume because we still have a copy). This volume contains issues #5-8, which is cool because #6-8 has been the best storyline thus far. That trilogy of issues carries the Doctor, Amy, and Rory to a recreation world where travelers can emerse themselves in whatever fantasy world they choose. Be a cowboy, be a gladiator, go to Atlantis, whatever suits you! But, as is always the case with the Doctor, things go haywire and the fantasy worlds become real. Eventually there’s a talking dinosaur and about a thousand versions of the Doctor running around. Pick up the collection and find out how it gets to that point!

To bridge the gap between comics, here’s some statues.

Ooooooo!

Awwwwww!

Ooooooo!

Awwwwww!

I know I’ve had a bunch of people asking about a White Lantern Sinestro, so here’s a mini bust for all you Sinestro nuts out there.

Hazzah!

Hooray!

The newest edition to the Batman Black & White line of statues comes from Patrick Gleason’s (Batman & Robin) exaggerated take on the character. Basic pose, but exceptional design.

Before he was writing the Dark Angel Saga in Uncanny X-Force or Frankencastle in The Punisher, Rick Remender wrote an epic series by the name of Strange Girl. Set in a post-rapture Earth, the lengthy adventure follows a young, emo girl and her demon buddy as they embark on a road trip across the country hoping to trick their way into the great hereafter by way of an open gateway to heaven. Any fan of Preacher or Y the Last Man will fall madly in love with this book. Luckily, you won’t have to search out any other volumes after it, because this is the Strange Girl Omnibus so it’s got every single issue of the entire series.

Finally, a new miniseries from the creator of iZombie, Chris Roberson’s Memorial. A blend of fantasy and horror, Memorial is the story of a young girl named Em who, after losing her memory and attempting to rebuild her life, must to battle with primal forces of the universe. Oh, and she’s got a talking cat on her side. Roberson has proven he can handle the fantastical through his Vertigo work, so I’m sure he’ll be up for the challenge of a series this demanding. Those who love iZombie or Locke & Key while probably find a comfortable fit in Memorial.

It is that time of the year.  The holidays are upon us, the snow is imminent, the packages are…wait, oh no, I forgot to THAT gift for THAT person!  Sweet fancy Moses, what am I going to do?!!!  I need it, like, RIGHT NOW!!!!

Don’t worry.  Calm down, grab a cup of hot coco, and peruse your way through ole Pulp Fiction’s last minute holiday gift idea post.

To start off, we’ve got a little stocking stuffer for the Marvel fan out there.  Avengers X-Sanction starts up this Wednesday and it promises to be a slam-bang, all-out-action fest.  Cable has been sent back through time to protect the future (as Cable is apt to do), but this time his mission is to eliminate the Avengers.  This, of course, rubs guys like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man the wrong way.  Fighting, smashing, punching, bashing, exploding, and general disharmony will ensue.  Bringing Jeph Loeb (Batman Long Halloween) back together with Ed McGuinness (Hulk), Avengers X-Sanction is sure to be a gorgeous, action packed book.

Next up, one for the Guillermo del Toro-vampire-novel-Chuck Hogan fan (any fan of these individually would also apply).  Based off of the novel Hogan and del Toro co-wrote, The Strain #1 combines vampires stories with the idea of a worldwide outbreak.  The plot: a plane lands at JFK, but when it doesn’t empty its passengers a team is called into investigate.  Wonder what they’ll find?  Barrowing the stylized artwork of Mike Huddleston (Butcher Baker, the Righteous Maker), this book’ll satisfy the horror fanatic in your household.

Time for some statues.  ’Cause statues are cool.

As is the Doctor.

Yup, Matt Smitth, 11th Doctor, now has his own sharp looking mini bust.  I can almost hear the Sonic Screwdriver it looks so real.

And since we’re talking statues, I might as well mention the newest DC Dynamic edition, The Joker.  I have seriously been waiting for this thing to come out for months and months.  Out of a series of statues that have looked absolutely amazing, this is far and away the best!  The way they’ve incorporated the gas from the gas bombs into the base is brilliant and quite colorful.  If you know a Joker fan or someone who’s been collecting the DC Dynamic statues, this is a must have!

Mark Millar is the most talented human to ever touch a keyboard in all of time or space.  Or so he would tell you.  The fact is, Millar is one heck of a writer having turned out sensational, classic stories like Wanted, Kick-Ass, The Ultimates, Nemesis, and Old Man Logan, but many forget he ever touched Marvel‘s golden child, Spider-Man.  Luckily, Marvel did not forget and is packaging all of his Spider-Man related material together in one big Ultimate Collection.  As you might imagine, Millar made Spider-Man his own by redesigning popular villains like Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, and the Sinister Six.  Anyone who thinks they’ve read everything Spider-Man needs to pick up this forgotten gem of a run.

So I’m legally obligated to mention this next product or else I lose my comic book store employee license.  Yes, folks, the Fables volume 16 tpb comes out this Wednesday.  Whoa, whoa, sit back down, it’s not out yet.  When it does hit, though, this collection enters the superhero territory.  Pinocchio hits on the bright idea that he can turn his friends into superheroes to battle the enemies of Fabletown.  Okay, I know you can’t wait any longer, come set up your tent outside the store.

Lastly tonight is the Pulp Fiction toy corner.

We’ll start with the newest set of Green Lantern action figures.  Series 5 contains four characters as usual, most importantly this time around, Sinestro in his Green Lantern uniform and Guy Gardner.  The rest of the set is filled out by Soranik Natu (Sinestro‘s daughter) and Brother Warth of the Blue Lantern CORPS.

The grand finale, though, comes with the new Arkham City action figure set.  This time around the figures in the set include Batman sans mask, Harley Quinn in her new costume, and Robin.  As you can see they are B to the A.

Yup, another Sonic Screwdriver.

I know, by this point we could probably be considered Pulp Fiction Hardware & Some Other Stuff.  Seriously, lanterns and screwdrivers all over the place.

This time around it’s the screwdriver of the 4th Doctor, Mr. Tom Baker himself.  As with the 10th and 3rd Doctor’s screwdrivers from a few months back, this one makes authentic sound effects from the show.  Maybe the neater detail, you slide back the covering to make the sound.

Charities are a good thing, right?  Comics are also a good thing.  What about combining the two?  Yes, the annual Hero Comics, released through the Hero Initiative and IDW, is a compilation of short comic stories by top, top, tipy top level creators all for the purpose of supporting aging comic creators without things like health insurance.  What’s truly exciting in the 2011 issue is that the creative team from the epically touted Sandman series reunites for one of the entries.  On top of that, the issue also contains Chew and Elephantmen short stories by their creators.  And the profits go into the pockets of ladies and gentlemen who have delivered consistent entertainment to you kind readers since you were knee-high to a bottlecap.  Find that spark of kindness in your heart and pick up a copy (even the lump of coal in my chest has managed a brief surging).

No one can hear you say, “Aw, thas so coot,” in space.  The Alien Facehugger Plush will either garner that reaction from you or cause you to run screaming from the room.  Could go either way.  Me, personally, I love all things Alien and all things adorable, so how can you go wrong.  Plus you can totally creep out your significant other by wrapping this thing around your face and run screaming through the halls until they tackle you to the floor and attempt to pry it off your flesh.  Good times.

Okay, usually I try to make with the witty banter, generate some giggles and whatnot, but for this last one I’m gonna get serious.  If you’ve ever read Terry Moore‘s magnum opus, Strangers in Paradise, you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he is a master of the medium.  His grasp of comic language and ability to craft story and artwork equally place him in the pantheon of creators.  But Moore is not a one-hit wonder, he recently finished his second series, Echo, once again proving that he understands comics better than most.  This Wednesday his third creator-owned project releases its first issue.  Called Rachel Rising, this new series follows the story of the titled girl who wakes up in a fresh grave.  Just as Strangers was a romance book and Echo was superhero book, Rachel Rising is essentially a horror book.  If you’re a person who’s looking to start fresh on a series that’s guaranteed to be a good read, you can’t go wrong with one by Terry Moore.

COOOOMMMMMIICCCC LLIIIIIIISSSSSTTTT!!!!

That’s what I like to imagine this new Atrocitus Blackest Night mini-bust is screaming at the top of his lungs.  It could also be COOKIES or, the ever popular, KHAN.

Or it could just be a primal scream over the fact that the Green Lantern movie kinda sucked.

The idea here is, if you make this nifty mini-bust your new shelf buddy, you can imagine him screaming whatever you want.

Oh, and if we’re conversating about Atrocitus, it’s also important to note that the Red Lantern Light-up Prop Lantern and Ring is also coming in this week.  If you’ve been up to the store recently, you’ve probably seen the Green Lantern and Orange Lantern versions of these.  They rock the casbah.

Up, up, and destroy!  If you picked up The Cape one-shot from last year, you probably understand how that paraphrasing of the famous line fits in here.  A devilishly twisted superhero book, the new The Cape four issue mini-series is a must buy thanks to Joe Hill‘s talented penmanship.  Some of you might have heard us Pulp folk spouting off about Hill‘s incredibly brilliant series Locke & Key and that’s because this guy knows how to write a comic.  His grasp of panel usage, character, dialog, and theme prove that a his papa’s (Stephen King) writing talent seeped into his gene pool.  So, The Cape is basically Hill taking that same talent and applying it to the superhero genre the only way he knows how:  gory, dark, and sinister.

Will you open The Vault?  I’d leave it to the professionals, frankly.  Luckily, that’s exactly what The Vault #1 is about.  In the tradition of The Abyss, Sphere, and Alien, The Vault involves a crack team of archaeologists and treasure hunters who travel to the bottom of the ocean in search of a lost item that they believe will bring them fortune and glory.

That’s never the way, is it?  No, the item is a veritable “Pandora’s Box” that will bring about untold destruction and death.  So, it’s for kids.

So, you’ve got David Tennant‘s screwdriver and Matt Smith‘s (which is an actual screwdriver, by the way), but something’s missing.  The future, that’s what!  Next Wednesday the Future Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver travels back to the past and lands on the shelves of Pulp Fiction.  First seen in the “Silence in the Library” episode being wielded by River Song, this screwdriver is a perfect replica of the one seen in the show!  That level of detail includes a break-away panel that reveals a switch that changes the screwdriver’s LED color from blue to red.  Oh, and each color makes different sounds.

The Doctor is in.  In t-shirt form, that is.

We’ve had screwdrivers and comics and RPGs, but now we’re getting t-shirts.  Sporting the most striking image of Matt Smith’s first season, this black t-shirt is stamped with the famous blue whirlwind picture of the Doctor and Amy spinning out of control, TARDIS behind them.  Show you trust your Doctor by wearing this bad boy around.

Oh, and two more of the Doctor Who novels are shipping this week, as well.  One, starring David Tennant’s 10th Doctor, is called Doctor Who: Taking of Chelsea 426 and involves the Doctor investigating the weird occurrences of a green house planet.  The second, Doctor Who: The Glamour Chase, stars Matt Smith’s as he and Amy investigate ruins that hint at an alternate reality having merged with ours.

If you’ve read Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ Kingdom Come, you’re aware of the brilliant interpretations they give Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.  Maybe the strongest visual retooling of the bunch, though, Diane’s golden Amazonian warfare attire from the story’s climax.  Well, now you can rip that image straight from the comic and sit it on your desk to admire into infinity with the Covers Girls of the DCU Wonder Woman statue.  Decked out in her Kingdom Come battle armor, this full body statue displays Wonder Woman in all her war hungry glory.

So, you’re going through you checklist for the release of the Green Lantern movie next week.  T-Shirt, check.  Green Lantern:  Rebirth trade paperback, check.  Green Lantern ring, ch…wait, what’s that little piddly plastic thing on your finger?  You call that a Green Lantern ring?  This is a ring (by the way, the previous sentence needs to be said in a Paul Hogan Australian accent).  Yes, the official Green Lantern Movie Replica Ring is cast from the exact ring Ryan Reynolds wears in the film.  Get your nerd on, ladies and gentlemen.

Over a foot tall and ripped from the pages of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s run on Superman, the new Superman Vs. Brainiac statue is epic in all the right ways.  For instance, Superman is designed in the indelible Christopher Reeves-esque likeness that Gary Frank established while on the book.  Outside of that, the version of Brainiac on the statue is also the redesigned version Frank created (which is awesome!).  Finally, Superman is ripping the Brainiac robot’s head off.  His head, people.  Sweet.
