Evolution FlightSurvival of the fittest takes to the air in the newest expansion for the popular card game Evolution.  In the game players develop animal species, evolving them with various cards in order to out-hunt and out-evade other animals.  The Evolution Flight expansion introduces avian species into the ecosystem.  Now your species can swoop on unsuspecting prey from above, fly away from predators, or soar to a new location when The Treachery of Rhudaur Lord of the Ringsfood is scarce.

Containing sixty fixed cards, The Treachery of Rhudaur adventure pack for the Lord of the Rings living card game adds cards 84-114 of the Angmar Awakened cycle.  The contents of the pack are designed to augment existing decks and to provide players with an entirely new scenario Warhammer Conquest The Great Devourerupon which their heroes can adventure.

In the grim darkness of the far future, Warhammer 40k Conquest is a competitive card game for two players.  The Great Devourer deluxe expansion introduces the Tyranids faction to the game with new warlords, units, attachments, and supports.  Additional cards are also included for every faction in the Samuraicore set, featuring powerful new units.

Long out of print, Samurai has been brought back by Fantasy Flight, and at a cheaper price!  In Samurai, players assume the role of power-hungry daimyo vying for control of Japan.  By gaining the loyalty of lesser lords, seizing the land’s primary sources of rice, and trading favors with religious leaders, the players can grow their dominion and muster the samurai to cement their claim.

One thing you may not know about Samurai, and a point that was certainly left out of 47 Ronin, is that they like their liquor.

Sake and Samurai plays off of this fact, pitting opponents against each other in a booze fueled conflict, where the most drunk Samurai gains the big prize.  But be mindful of the sake’s effects, as each drink will eliminate your ability to use certain special skills.  Drinks, also, however, offer special abilities in return, so each player must strategically choose when and what to drink in order to best reach that perfect state of zen buzz.

Castle Panic was ready made for the addition of zombies, so it’s a little shocking its taken Fireside Games this long to take advantage of that fact, but its finally happened.

Dead Panic takes advantage of Castle Panic‘s castle defense mechanics and applies them to a zombie apocalypse scenario.  Zombies will randomly be rolled up to appear in the various regions of the game board, offering increasingly difficult obstacles for the players to overcome while holed up in the central mansion.

The suburbs continue to encroach upon the city thanks to Suburbia, Inc., the first expansion for the popular Suburbia board game.  This expansion adds a range of new buildings, a further reaching boarder ability, and a handful of exciting new bonuses.

Much like Sims for the boarding game and steampunk crowd, Steam Park combines each of these elements in the most appealing way possible.

Players compete as amusement park architects in a world of gears and levers, literally constructing their own parks from tiles and pieces included in the game.  Carefully balance the amount of rides, bathrooms, and food carts within your park for the most lucrative results.  And if you have younger players joining in, the game will scale to accommodate younger or less experienced players.

The overdue Tyranids Codex, complete with updated rules and stats, ships today, along with a range of new and repackaged models.  The latter include the Harpy, the Tyranid Swarm, a set of psychic power cards, and more. 

A classic Warhammer game is once again re-envisioned by Fantasy Flight Games with their relaunched Warhammer:  Diskwars.  A war game at heart, Diskwars utilizes a unique mechanic wherein each army and regiment is represented by a disk.  These disks get flipped across the game board, as players attempt to land them on top of their opponent’s disks in order to take out portions of their armies.

Before we begin today, a bit of mood setting.  In that effort, please click below and keep it playing during your reading of the first item.  Thank you all.

Okay, now insert Ultimate Combat when applicable.  That’s right, Pathfinder:  Ultimate Combat has cartwheel kicked its way onto the shelves this week.  Many have perished in its making, but the bloodshed was well worth it as this thick edition expands the Pathfinder universe with more fighty madness than you can shake a katana at.  That includes three completely new classes that every single gamer out there will froth at the mouth to play:  gunslinger, ninja, and samurai.  Enough new equipment and combat information to take down a small army is included side-by-side with a detailing of vehicular combat and over 250 new feats!  If you’re looking to supplement, and by supplement I mean violently beat to a pulp, your Pathfinder Core Rulebook, Ultimate Combat will do so with murderous glee.

Staying with Pathfinder for a second (music is still optional), three other companions and campaign settings arrived this week, as well.  Learn all things goblin (seriously, I think this thing’ll tell you which side of the bed they sleep on) with the Player Companion, Goblins of Golarion.  Follow that up with a chaser of Pathfinder Society Field Guide, which is like an enrollment manual to the Society, laying out for players and GMs alike, all the details about factions, archetypes, Absalom, and everything else needed to flesh out Society characters and campaigns.  Finally, for dessert, Inner Sea Magic, which delves into the nitty-gritty of everything magic related in the Pathfinder world, including spellcaster history, magical schools, variant magic, along with two oracle mysteries.

Since you’ve already got your otherworldly passport handy after the last items, how about a jaunt into the realms of Dungeons & Dragons.  Today we venture to the realm of Neverwinter (sounds like summer in Lee’s Summit) with the new Neverwinter Campaign Setting hardcover.  This supplemental book is like a travel guide to the region, complete with a massive fold-out map.  But it’s not all just pretty pictures here, the hardcover also gets intricate with pages and pages of minute detail about character themes, cleric domains and powers, race variants, and all sorts of adventure-building materials for Dungeon Masters.  Somehow, with all that, the book still manages to introduce a new wizard type known as a bladesinger.  Oh and, uh, if you haven’t noticed, bit of cross promotion, there’s also a new Neverwinter Fortune Card booster expansion.  Hmm, who’da thought?

You remember playing Mouse Trap as a kid?  The Impossible Machine captures that same sense of inventive insanity as players lay down cards in an attempt to build the most inefficient contraption to perform the most menial of tasks.  For instance, maybe you want to pour a glass of water, well in The Impossible Machine players connect cards that represent components like fans, cogs, catapults, and so on toward the eventual goal of completing the overall task.  Each card has an input and an output arrow to indicate what cards can be connected to it.  The game ends when a player has more points than any other player after three machines have been completed.  Would it be too much of a pun to say this is quite the inventive game?

Brush up on your Smurf dialect before reading this next one, folks.  ’Cause it’s gonna get Smurfy up in this Smurf!

Timed perfectly to the release of the new Smurf movie, No Smurf Left Behind is a collectible board smurf that smurfs as a perfect family gaming experience.  Smurfing like a simplified kid-friendly version of Last Night on Earth, players can choose to play one of the five included Smurfs on their way to the portal home or the Smurily Smurf Gargamel as he attempts to Smurf the Smurfs’ efforts.

And if you Smurf to expand your game (this is where the collectible part comes in), Wizkids has also released a bunch of individual boosters that contain a single painted Smurf figure.  There are eight total, so Smurf that allowance money to collect them all.

What say we blow through this one today, chappies?  ‘Cause who wants to be reading on a lovely day like this with the sun out and…what?  You just saw a person spontaneously light on fire as they stepped out their door?

Ah, who the heck needs the outside, let’s get to some reading!

Munchkin proves that size does matter this week with the release of Munchkin Deluxe (that last part needs to be said in a booming announcer’s voice, by the way).  But what’s so deluxe about it, anyway?  Well, existing as almost a midway point between the base Munchkin card game and the Munchkin Quest boardgame, Munchkin Deluxe contains a helping of handy whozits not in either game.  These include a game board that is labeled to show players where their cards go, colored pawns that can keep track of players’ leveling, and associated cards that help with keeping track of who is what color.  Also, you may have seen us mention it on Facebook, we currently have a “very special” Munchkin product in-stock that we can not tell you about, but will be happy to show it to you if you come into the store.  Ha ha, coyness!

Are you ready to regain your honor, gamer-san?  Good, then the new updated/re-release of Shogun is the game for you.  Ikusa is the new name (and don’t make the mistake of searching for that under Google Images like I did; file that under “stuff you do not want to see”), but gameplay is essentially the same.  Like a more elaborate Risk, Ikusa (aka Shogun, aka Samurai Swords) has been about using samurai, daimyo, and ashigaru warriors to gain control of feudal Japan since its original inception at Milton Bradley.  What the updated version offers over the previous releases is quality design elements; the game pieces are detailed, the board is beautiful, and every player gets a swanky tray to hold their figures in as well as a stat card.  Another fact:  if you don’t purchase Ikusa, you have to perform seppuku.

It’s not quite a card game, it’s not quite a boardgame, but Bloodsuckers is certainly an inventive game.  Created by one of the designers of Castle Panic, Bloodsuckers is a vampire-themed game that pits the titled bloodsuckers against an army of vampire hunters.  Gameplay revolves around placing vampire and hunter cards on a playmat that represents five locations in the town of Blackwood.  These locations are also present on a nifty game board, where each location comes with a dial that players turn to indicate the location’s current state; a clock dial is also included to keep track of the time of day.  As we’re talking about humans and vampires here, the powers of each wax or wane depending on whether it’s night or day and what type of character you are playing.  If you enjoy Nightfall and/or Last Night on Earth, you might want to have a sip or two of Bloodsuckers juicy filling.

How about ending with a Magic trick, eh?  Or a bunch of Magic tricks, in this situation.  As a way of supporting all the Planeswalker-y goodness that is present in the new 2012 Core Set, Wizards shipped a bunch’a 2012 gaming materials today.  These include, new Garruk sleeves and deck boxes, new 2012 Planeswalkers sleeves and boxes, new Magic logo-backed Commander-sized sleeves, new Planeswalkers 9-Pocket binder, and a new Planeswalkers playmat.  Whew, that’s a lotta new. 

It don’t stop there, though.  The new Commander deck boxes were also released.  These are oversized boxes that fit over 25 large Commander cards, as well as 100 standard cards.  Take a look at the picture to the right.  Magic trick over.
