Morels gets you high.  High on board games!

I’m aware how corny that intro was, but this game is, in actuality, about mushrooms, not corn.  Morels is one of the rare entries into the two-player game category, so it’s double the awesome for also being a great game.  Each player controls two decks of cards, a night and day deck.  Each of these contain various types of shrooms to be grown or eaten during these distinct periods of the day.  The types of mushrooms cooked, and what they are cooked with, earns players different points toward a victory goal.

YOU!  ARE!  SPARTACUS!

The Serpents and the Wolf is the first expansion for the board game adaptation of the popular Starz television series, Spartacus.  Within this expansion set are two completely new houses, Varinius and Seppius, as well as hordes of new armors, combatants, and weapons.  In the bloody arenas of Rome, players pit two teams of gladiators against each other in violent combat, until only one team remains standing.

To make sure you don’t have to find out why they smell worse on the inside, you’re going to want to pick up the fourth Force Pack expansion for Fantasy Flight‘s Star Wars LCG card game.  Six original objective sets are included within the pack, focusing the action on Walkers, troops, shields, and careful management of how damage is dealt.  Join the Assault on Echo Base by picking up this newest expansion pack.

Discerning DMs pay heed to Pathfinder‘s NPC Codex Box.

Like the previous token boxes Piazo has released, this one contains over 300 tokens and stands of varying sizes.  Each token is represented in full color art pulled directly from the NPC Codex.  Make sure your game is engrossing and clear by picking up these essential pawns.

It’s all about the bad guys in the Enemies of the Imperium!

Antike Duellum sends two players back in time for an epic head-to-head battle!

Taking the rules of the original Antike board game, Antike Duellum modifiers the mechanics for a two player war game of ancient Rome.  Coming with two separate scenarios (Rome vs. Carthage and Persia vs. Greece), the base game lasts between sixty to ninety minutes.  Play your cards right, literally, as carefully playing event cards (25 of which are brand new for this version of the game) changes the pace of the game and entirely decides the outcome.  With an easy to learn rule system, you’ll never be saying, “It’s all Greek to me.”

Uggh errgg mrrgg grrrgg.

That would be caveman for Cavemen, the Quest for Fire.  This simple little Rio Grande card game has two to five players taking on the role of a prehistoric hunter who’s mission is to kill dinosaurs and gain influence in the tribe.  To do this, players draft cards into a common card pool which decides the possible actions for that turn.  If you hold the special conch token, however, you get to choose your action first and take an extra action at the end of everyone else’s turn.  So, I say againg, uggh errgg mrrgg grrrgg.

The popular miniature adventure game Mage Knight gains a new expansion in The Lost Legion.  If you are brave enough to overcome the deadly obstacles in the way of purchasing this expansion (which, basically, is to just have the money to buy it) then you too can acquire all its riches.  Within the box is an entirely new Mage Knight (Wolfhawk), spells, artifacts, skills, locations, scenarios, enemies, and friends.  As usual, each piece and accessory is detailed and designed to the high standards of WizKids.

For the second time tonight dinosaurs have to be mentioned.

Yes, it’s a good night.

In the lost city of Uchronia dinosaurs never died out.  Now players take turns placing and drawing resource cards  in order to build up the ancient city, using their prehistoric lizard pals to assist them.  Building cards are drawn from the center of the table and used by players to continue constructing their palaces and become the patriarch of the city.

DEET–DEET–DEET–THIS IS A TEST OF THE PULP FICTION GAMING WEATHER SYSTEM

–NUMEROUS GAMING EXPANSIONS HAVE BEEN SIGHTED ON SHELVES–

–DO NOT TAKE COVER.  INSTEAD, COME TO THE STORE AND LOOK AT THEM–

Okay, that went on longer than it should have.  Let’s get to something that might actually interest  you, eh?

Ascension:  Return of the Fallen is the newest expansion to the popular deck building game.  The nifty thing here is that this expansion can be combined with the base game or played as a stand-alone game with two players.  And considering Ascension is created by a number of Magic the Gathering Pro Tour champions, you can imagine how similar and strong the mechanics are.  Much like Magic, the ongoing story behind the card game continues here as players are able to go toe-to-toe with Samael.  Also, this expansion introduces a new mechanic called Fate that adds an element of story creation to the game.

Another stand-alone expansion (don’t these companies know the meaning of the word “expand” anymore?), Nightfall:  Martial Law slinks into the store today.  And, yes, you can combine it with the base game for massive monster mayhem.  But the point is Martial Law can be played as a stand-alone as it adds 312 new cards including minion, action, would, and draft cards.  A new feeding mechanic is also introduced where players can boost their card chain so that it has more effect.

The last expansion on the hit parade is for 7 Wonders, but, oddly, is not called 8 Wonders.  Ba-dum-ching!  No, instead it’s called Leaders.  It lives up to that name as it adds an entirely new set of cards, called the leaders, to the base game.  Players draw four of them at the beginning of the game, eventually laying them out at the start of each age to boost your city’s power.  Also contained is the new wonder, Rome, and a seventeen new coin tokens.  Pick it up and take 7 Wonders to a whole new level (and 8th level, mayhap?)
