But you can throw technicolor and musical numbers out the window, because this gang warfare is in the dystopian city of Gatorum.  Two to four players take on the role of futuristic gang leaders attempting to overrun the city in a power play.  Hire up local toughs, collect some heavy artillery, and build up your home turf.  But beware because your rivals will be ready and waiting to nab anything you do build up.  City of Remnants is basically Agricola or Kingsburg but filthier.

Adding a component long missing from the slew of Vegas themed games out there, Las Vegas is a new dice game where players roll to win it all!  With six different casinos littering the Las Vegas landscape, each player must carefully choose which casino they roll in so that they maximize their rewards.  A fast-paced, easy to learn family game of interactive dice play, Las Vegas will bring lady luck to your house tonight!

The band’s getting back together!  That’s right, you’ve got the gargoyle, the ogre, the prince, the warrior, the ghoul, the enchantress, the centaur, and, above all, the dragon maiden.  Each of these eight new characters appears in the first expansion set for Chaosatle, the Melee Expansion.  Each of these characters adds a new ability to the game, including the ability to ride the centaur or the dragon maiden’s power to call to her aid the mighty red dragon.  The expansion also includes a special conversion for a solo version of the game where clips reconnect the board in different ways.

Why travel the world to see each of the seven wonders when you can pick up the 7 Wonders:  Wonder Pack?

This expansion to the base 7 Wonders drafting game packs in four special wonder boards and their matching wonder card along with a rule book on how to use them.  These wonders include the Great Wall of China, Stonehenge, Abu Simbel, and Manneken Pis.  These brand new wonders can be incorporated into the game easily, adding entirely new abilities to the process.

You’ve made it to the surface, you’ve found a raft, you’ve got a broken sword to defend yourself with, but can you Escape from Atlantis?  Survive:  Escape from Atlantis receives a expansion reprinting and a new release this week in the form of The Giant Squid and Dolphins and Dive Dice.  The Giant Squad has been in print before, but it is no less vicious.  Guard your boat carefully, because the five giant squid tokens included within are always ready to attack.  Luckily, if you get the Dolphins and Dive Dice the friendly creatures kept within will help you back to your boat if you fall out.  However, the Dive Dice give a new benefit to the monsters surrounding Atlantis, that of diving below the surface.

The Justice League New 52 Batman action figure brought the darkest night a few months ago, but now it’s time for the brightest day as the Green Lantern figure from this series ships this Wednesday. Sculpted off of Hal Jordan‘s new costume, the figure presents all of Jim Lee’s detailed pencil work in one stunning figure. If you’re planning to collect the entire team, this is a must grab!

What do you get when you cross Serenity, Doctor Who, Astonishing X-Men, and Greg Pak? Actually, it’s an unfair question because the comic I’m talking about doesn’t come out until Wednesday, but if you’re up on your X-Men news, you’ll know the answer is X-Treme X-Men. This new ongoing series by Planet Hulk writer Greg Pak follows a trio of alternate reality versions of Wolverine, Emma Frost, and Nightcrawler. So, come join Captain Howlett, Emmeline Frost, and Kid Nightcrawler as they jump from dimension to dimension tracking down lost X-Men and trouble as they go. Oh, and for those collectors out there, we will be getting the limited Salvador Larroca variant cover, which you can admire to your right.

Finishing out the night we’ve got two new works from up-and-coming comic superstar Jeff Lemire. Lemire is garnering much deserved acclaim for his work on DC‘s Animal Man and Frankenstein series as well as his post-apocalyptic road story, Sweet Tooth, so when he’s got a new one-shot story for DC coming out this Wednesday, you should take notice. National Comics Kid Eternity is the launching point for a new stand-alone series set to re-introduce forgotten DC characters. This first issue, drawn by Cully Hamner (RED), introduces Kid Eternity, a medical examiner who has to solve a murder mystery in twenty-four hours. A great story in a one-and-done package, folks.

Lemire’s newest graphic novel also drops this week. The Underwater Welder follows in the footsteps of Lemire’s other meditative graphic novel work (The Nobody, Lost Dogs) as it follows a professional diver and expecting father who is coming to terms with the burgeoning pressures of becoming a father. The further he drifts downward to the ocean floor the more he forgets his wife and future son…until something supernatural occurs. Written and drawn by Lemire in his recognizable concise, sketchy style, The Underwater Welder is receive buzz as one of the best pieces of comic art this year.

Snnf, snnf.

Anyone else smell that?

Like fish and slime.

Oh, wait, it’s the Cthulhu Pest Control Air Freshener that’s coming out next week. And you know that’s gotta be a pretty pungent odor if I can smell it five days before it even ships. But when it comes to the primary Eldar God, what can you expect. It itsn’t just the sight of him that’ll drive you insane.

Red and white stripped hat versus bowtie? Winner: Bowtie

Single location versus all of time and space? Winner: All of time and space.

Regular every-day people versus millions of alien races? Winner: Millions of alien races.

It’s pretty clear, folks, when it comes to Waldo versus Doctor Who, the undeniable victory is the good Doctor. And if you need more evidence all you have to do is pick up the Doctor Who: Where’s the Doctor kid’s book we will be receiving this coming Wednesday.

In a short and sweet Comic List Highlights, we’ll end on a hardcover collection with a bit more substance. Yeah, when it comes to substance the new Amazing Spider-Man: Ends of the Earth hardcover has it in spades. Not only does the volume contain all eight main and tie-in issues from this year’s major Spider-Man event, but also covers and behind the scenes material. But what’s the story about, you ask? Doctor Octopus, arguably Spider-Man‘s main arch-enemy, has been handed down a death sentence after having received countless pummelings from the webbed wonder. With his body deteriorating, Doc Ock sets out to either save the world or destroy it, with no one knowing what his intentions are. Spider-Man will doubt Doc Ock until the end of time, but could he be wrong this time? Great slam-bang, globe-trotting superhero action, Spider-Man: Ends of the Earth is the great Spidey epic of our time.

If you’ve ever found yourself in a situation where you need to get a hold of a miniature version of Batman, you’re in luck!

Coming out this Wednesday, the Bat-Signal Kit is the next in a popular line of comic kits. As with the previous kit offerings, this one comes with a booklet detailing important Batman history, as well as the real showstopper a working miniature bat-signal. Just be sure to keep the batteries fresh or you’ll end up feeling pretty stupid when the Joker comes calling.

And since we’re talking about Batman and giant spotlights, I think I’ll shine a spotlight on another Batman item shipping this week. Absolute Dark Victory is an epic binding of the sequel to best Batman story ever told, The Long Halloween. If you’ve never had the pleasure of laying eyes on one of the DC Absolute editions, they’re very rare printings of famous series, much larger than normal trade paperbacks, housed in a sturdy slipcover, and loaded with, not only, the beautifully remastered main story, but a helping of extra content. And if you out there scratching you head as to why I’d mention a sequel instead of the original, the reason is we still have a copy of the Absolute Long Halloween. So treat yourself to the absolute best Absolute Batman editions ever.

Like the cult-hit LOST, it all begins with a plane trip gone bad. But a passenger airliner full of spontaneous amnesiacs is only the start of the twisty, turny road that is Matt Kindt’s Mind MGMT (pronounced Mind Management). Kindt is a resident of St. Louis and one of the best young, Indy talents in the industry. Any fan of Jeff Lemire (Animal Man, Sweet Tooth, Frankenstein Agent of SHADE) will find a compatible love for Matt Kindt’s work. With his first ongoing series for Dark Horse, Kindt is setting out to craft a mind warping espionage series that’ll stand among the best. I think he’ll do it.

You know what’s better than Venom versus hell demons? Venom and Red Hulk versus hell demons. You know what’s better than Venom and Red Hulk versus hell demons? Venom, Red Hulk, and X-23 versus hell demons! You know what’s better than Venom, Red Hulk, and X-23 versus hell demons? VENOM, RED HULK, X-23, and GHOST RIDER versus HELL DEMONS!!!!

Hopefully my point is made. Pick up the new Venom: Circle of Four hardcover.

It may come out four days after Free Comic Book Day and it may not be free, but Higher Earth #1 is only a $1 and demands to be read. Written by rising comic genius Sam Humpries, Higher Earth is a triple threat sci-fi/alternate reality/future comic book. Much like the recent popular series Saga, Higher Earth focuses on a young redheaded girl and an ex-soldier must race across a legion of alternate Earths while being threatened by the one Earth that rules them all: Higher Earth. Sam Humpries, as I mentioned, is on the rise after penning books like Our Love is Real and Fanboys vs. Zombies, so I’m sure this is his next great series. And for a $1 how can you pass it up?

Many parents may not realize that there is an abundance of great reading material for children that is not related to any property from Marvel or DC. Brian Michael Bendis, the current writer of The Avengers, recently, in fact, published a graphic novel called Takio about a superteam of sisters designed for younger readers. Because of the book’s success, he is now shifting the story into a new ongoing series. Taki and Olivia, the masked sisters, may squabble and argue, but they eventually have to work together to take down Kelly Sue, their newest enemy and ex-friend, who gained special abilities around the same time the girls did. With poppy, cartoony artwork from frequent Bendis collaborator, Michael Avon Oeming, this series will be a great introduction to comics for any young reader.

Can’t say I regularly get the urge to hug the TARDIS. But this little beauty may change that.

Yes, following after the talking plush Dalek from last year (a blue version comes out this Wednesday), the TARDIS is getting in on the cuteness trend.

The new squeezable, huggable, noise-making TARDIS plush comes out Wednesday and will likely be gone the same day…and not because it will vanish into the time vortex, if you get my meaning.
