-We’ve said it before but it’s no less true now, when Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman:  The Killing Joke) launches a new project it’s worth reading.

-An anthology series at it’s heart, Cinema Purgatorio not only features a continual story from Alan Moore, but also from some of the industry’s top creative talent.

-The murderer’s row of writers on the series includes Garth Ennis (Preacher), Max Brooks (World War Z), Kieron Gillen (Darth Vader), and Christos Gage (Crossed:  Badlands).

-Alan Moore will also be re-teaming with Kevon O’Neil on this series, the artist that has worked with him on every League of Extraordinary Gentlemen story.

3 Floyds Alpha King #1 (of 5)3 Floyds Alpha King

-Originally slated to come out through Heavy Metal Magazine, 3 Floyds Alpha King is now an Image Comics property!

-Written by Brian Azzarello (Dark Knight III, Wonder Woman, 100 Bullets), this miniseries is guaranteed to be unusual in all the right ways.

-Azzarello is joined by one of the industry’s most respected veteran artists, Simon Bisley!

-When a couple of suburban bros create a home brew so astounding, an otherworldly king crosses dimensions to posses it.  Things don’t go well.

Renato Jones One PercentRenato Jones:  The One Percent #1

-A modern day Robin Hood tale, but with far more cursing, violence, and debauchery.

-This new Image series will be written, drawn, colored, and completely overseen by Kaare Andrews (Iron Fist the Living Weapon, Spider-Man Reign).

-In a world where the rich have devoured an even greater amount of the public’s gross economy, Renato Jones is the hero who will make them pay.

-Expect crude, raunchy, and gruesome on the level of Kick-Ass!

The Punisher #1Punisher All New All Different

-A new era of The Punisher begins fresh off the heels of his successful appearance in the Daredevil Netflix series.

-New and old combine on creative duties as up-and-coming writer Becky Cloonan (Southern Cross, Gotham Academy), and veteran artist Steve Dillon (Preacher, Punisher) join forces.

-Frank goes on the road with this storyline, heading out on the hunt for a villain that causes him an emotional distress he hasn’t felt since his family died.

-The hunter becomes the hunted, however, as a dangerous gun-for-hire is sent after Frank.

WWE Ongoing #1

-WWE turns from heel to face by releasing a new ongoing series about the biz!

-The series is set to feature all of the stars of the squared circle you love and love to hate, including CM Punk, John Cena, Undertaker, Kane, Mark Henry, Shamus, and, of course, ole Vince McMahon, himself.

-Fluid artwork depicts all the slobber knockery and car crash-like action of each vicious throwdown.

-And expect the voice of the series to be 100% accurate, as it is written by New York Times best-selling author and wrestling legend, Mick Foley!

Doc Savage (Dynamite) #1

-The Man of Bronze returns from the company who knows pulp!

-Chris Roberson, the writer behind indy hits like iZombie and Memorial, as well as Dynamite events like Masks, takes Doc out for a solo adventure!

-Those unfamiliar with Doc Savage should take notice as the Doc is the granddaddy of all superhero characters, especially Superman!

-Dynamite knows how to tell a pulpy tale the right way, as anyone who’s read The Shadow, Green Hornet, Masks, or King’s Watch, will attest.

Marvel Knights Hulk #1 (of 4)

-Continuing Marvel‘s return to the grit and grime of the Marvel Knights line, this Hulk miniseries follows in the footsteps of MK Spider-Man and X-Men.

-Joe Keatinge, fresh off his take on Morbius, the Living Vampire, weaves this destructive tale of an amnesiac, on-the-run Bruce Banner in Paris.

-Keatinge is joined by rising artist, and master of adult (with a capital A) artwork, Piotr Kowalski (SEX).

-Find out who’s chasing Bruce, how he forgot everything, and why others are turning into Hulks in this short, stylish miniseries.

Dead Body Road #1

-Roaring into stores this Wednesday, Dead Body Road is a pure homage to seventies revenge films, like Death Wish, Point Blank, and The Getaway.

-Justin Jordan made a name for himself off of the grisly superhero deconstruction that was Luthor Strode, but now he branches out to crime fiction. . .but with the same violent tone.

-A revenge story at heart, Dead Body Road follows Orson Gage down American highways as he hunts down those who’ve ruined his life.

-Fans of rough, though comics like The Cape, Preacher, the Parker adaptations, Criminal, and Gearhead need to give a look.

-Dark Horse, who’ve managed the Terminator license for many years, are behind this epic maxi-series, promising quality work.

-Bridging all of the Terminator films together by jumping between past and future, The Final Battle will organize the universe in preparation for the release of Terminator 5 in the summer of 2015.

Ghosted v.1 tpb

-Heist movies collide with haunted house movies in this dark, horror series.

-Another in the long line of inventive, unique Image Comic ongoing series.

-A special team of seven specialists is hired by an eccentric, wealthy millionaire to steal a ghost from an especially haunted mansion.  Will they make it out alive?

-Due to the impressive sales of the first five issues, Ghosted has been extended to ongoing status, meaning that this mission is only the first step for this rag-tag band of thieves.

Inhumanity #1

-Spinning out of the events of the Infinity!

-Written by Matt Fraction, author of Hawkeye, The Invincible Iron Man, Five Fists of Science, and Fear Itself!

-Described as Game of Thrones for the Marvel Universe, Inhumanity will see Black Bolt and the other disparate houses of the Inhuman nation struggle with the rise in their population, a stress that will lead to battle.

Samurai Jack #1

-Gendy Tartakovsky’s lone sword-swinging, silent hero, Jack, returns thanks to IDW!

-Picking up after the open ending of the cartoon series, the first five issues will deal with the Jack searching for the mystical “Rope of Eons”, rumored to be capable of taking him home.

-Written by Jim Zub, who’s been killing it on the darkly humorous, Skullkickers, this series will be brimming with the stylistic action the original cartoon was known for.

-And don’t worry about the comic diverging from the look of the show, because Andy Suriano, one of the artists responsible for the original character design, lends his pencils to the comic.

Marvel NOW What? #1

-Marvel has always had a long tradition of publishing satirical takes on their own characters, with the newest being Marvel NOW What?

-And it’s no slouches on writing duties, with a slew of notable comedy television writers crafting humorous takes on Marvel‘s most famous characters.

-Joining them on art duties are a ton of notably quirky artists, like Steve Lieber (Superior Foes of Spider-Man) and Colleen Coover.

-Plus, you get a Skottie Young cover without having to pick up a variant!

Velvet #1

-Ed Brubaker gets back into the game with Velvet #1 from Image Comics.

-Having written one of the most definitive runs on Captain America ever (including the Winter Soldier story that the next movie will be base off of), Brubaker brings his espionage know-how to this spy story.

-Velvet Templeton thought she was out, but that’s exactly when you always get pulled back in.  With her boss dead and twenty years away from the field, Velvet must jump back into the fray for another adventure.

-Joining Brubaker on art duties is his long time partner Steve Epting, who’s penciled more comic books than you’ve read in your life.  Seriously, this guy’s been around.

Pretty Deadly #1

-Hot on the tail of the sci-fi western, East of West, is the surreal revenge tale, Pretty Deadly, from Image Comics.

-Kelly Sue Deconnick, writer of Ghost and Captain Marvel, joins with her artistic soulmate, Emma Rios, for this entirely unique comic series about the daughter of Death himself.

-Expect the brutality of series like Saga and Preacher combined with the fantastical fantasy of Fables and Sweet Tooth.

-And, hey, above anything else, be thankful we live in a day where two female comic creators can launch a weird Western comic and have it be anticipated!

Preparing for this Wednesday’s Halloween ComicFest and actual Halloween, tonight’s Comic List Highlights features numerous creepy tales of horror and suspense, all of which arrive next new comic day. They may not be free like some of the other books for ComicFest, but they are freaky.

First up, for all the kids who still haven’t gone too bed, we’ll start with something a little less spooky. A + X is the new anthology series from Marvel coming out of AvX. Just like the AvX: Versus series, A + X features two separate stories featuring interactions between an Avenger and an X-Man as told by top artists and writers. Issue one has a Wolverine and Hulk story, sure to become a classic, told by Jeph Loeb and famous Hulk artist Dale Keown as well as a Cable and Captain America tale written by Dan Slott and drawn by Ron Garney. A + X is sure to be a fun, fast tale perfect for kids and those who adore classic Marvel missives made in the merry manner!

Alright, all the young’uns off to sleep?

Now for some adult stuff.

Bedlam #1 has been receiving some terrifically terrifying press as being the next huge Image comic series after Happy, Saga, and Revival. Nick Spencer, the notable mad genius behind Morning Glories, Infinite Vacation, and Thief of Thieves, joins forces will the ever-present Riley Rossmo (Rebel Blood, Wild Children, Cowboy Ninja Viking) to weave a narrative of a former psychopath and ruler of a tiny, quite town who used to go by Madder Red but now goes by Fillmore Press. A moody blend of Poe and Lovecraft, Bedlam #1 is an over sized story that’ll keep you hiding under the sheets at day’s end.

Are your teeth chattering in terror yet? No. Then let Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and Glen Fabry (Preacher) keep you shivering with Lot 13. A rare horror miniseries brought to you by DC Comics, Lot 13 calls back to famous scary films like The Amityville Horror, The Shinning, and Thirteen Ghosts as it relates how a normally happy family stumbles across a haunting apartment complex as they stop over on a cross-country move. Will they all still be alive by the next morning? Read and find out. If you dare.

DC‘s really keeping the hell fires burning this year with another horror series, this one being a one-shot anthology featuring at least ten short comics by, literally, DC‘s top, top talent. That’s Geoff Johns, Jeff Lemire, Paul Pope, Phil Jimenez, Amy Reeder, and one of the last stories by the late, unmatched Joe Kubert. The stories range from a robbery on a futuristic ghost ship, a haunt-for-hire agency, and numerous other inventively chilling campfire yarns. Get in the spirit and pick up this collection about spirits!
