Pathfinder Adventure Time Card Game PlaymatThe Pathfinder Adventure Card Game gets organized this weekend, thanks to a new playmat.

Featuring a layout that helps to show new and old players how to arrange the various important cards piles.  As well as being a guide for placement, the mat also helps organize the game (heading off clutter) and keep the cards from shifting about the table.  The layout is made to cover up to six players.Villainy

With the superheroes getting all the love in games like Sentinels of the Multiverse, Legendary, and Heroes Wanted, it’s time for the bad guys to have their day!  Villainy puts players into the role of a supervillain attempting to destroy the hero of the metropolis they call home.  In order to do this players will need to complete three distinct secret plans, made possible by hiring henchmen.  Each game plays Khans of Tarkir Card Sleevesdifferent, as the objectives and story alters.

Many readers out there will know that this weekend was the Magic the Gathering prerelease event for Khans of Tarkir, the start of the newest card block.  Anyone who knows this will also likely know that means the sleeves, binders, and card boxes for the set are also out.  Boosters, fat pack, and intro Talisman Woodlandsdecks will go on sale next Friday.

Another large sized expansion for the Talisman 4th Edition board game, The Woodland provides an entire new board to place adjacent to the main board, five new characters, and an added fate mechanic that gives you the option of bettering Hour of the Wolf Warhammer 40K Sanctus Reachyour chances or lessening those of an opponent.

The sequel to the recently released Warhammer 40K Red Waaagh! hardcover, The Hour of the Wolf, is out this weekend.  Contained within its glossy, hardcover-bound pages are details on various skirmishes between the Orc and Space Wolf factions, along with formation templates and more.

The major Warhammer release this weekend, however, is a blast from the past.Space Hulk Warhammer 40K

Once again, Games Workshop has re-released the classic 40K universe board game, Space Hulk.  If you remember the last time this game was released, you’ll also remember the incredibly short amount of time it stayed on shelves and the astronomic price hikes that occurred after it vanished.  This new version comes complete with the same miniatures and accessories as the last, but with one important alteration.  The 2014 version includes an entirely new set of tiles, allowing players who own the previous version to combine them and create one, Five Tribes board gameover-sized game board.

Days of Wonder, publisher of Ticket to Ride, Smallworld, and Cargo Noir, has released a new board game designed by Bruno Cathala (Shadows Over Camelot).  Five Tribes is a meeple placement game, but in reverse.  The game begins with a selection of meeple figures, each from one of the five titular tribes, arranged across the board and it is the players’ challenge to rearrange them.  How they are moved and where they are moved is the strategic challenge of Five Tribes, with the best player gaining the most points from their movements.Netrunner First Contact Data Pack

The third Data Pack in the Lunar Cycle of the Android Netrunner LCG has been downloaded to the Pulp Fiction shelves this weekend.  First Contact’s sixty card expansion intensifies the conflict between the runners and the corps on a number of fronts.  A new meat space is introduced along with new regions, Anarch identities, traps, resources, and mythic ice.

Star Wars Force and DestinyFinally, the force is strong with you.

Fantasy Flight expands its roleplaying galaxy far, far away with the Force and Destiny Beta softcover, a third  system to add to the Edge of the Empire and Age of Rebellion systems.  This long awaited edition incorporates force based abilities into the universe, providing information on character creation and a fully playable adventure.  And because this system is set in the same universe as the two previous systems, they are all fully compatible.Chinatown

Long out-of-print and going for insane money online, Chinatown has been revived by Z-Man Games.  A truly antagonistic experience, Chinatown is based around bidding, bartering, and negotiating with your opponents.  Players attempt to lay business tiles onto the game board, hoping to group as many like tiles together as the can for greater payouts.  But players can also attempt to convince others to sell or trade for tile Monster Manual D&D 5th Edition Next HCand spaces, requiring a sharp skill for salesmanship and strategic dealing.

Eagerly awaited, the second major core hardcover for Dungeons and Dragons 5.0 is out this week!

The Monster Manual for D&D Next follows hot on the heels of the Player’s Handbook, containing beasties and creatures from the long history of the famous fantasy roleplaying game, all illustrated with beautiful new artwork and provided with easy-to-use rules and statistics.  An essential volume for any Dungeon Master.

Batman has been in some tough situations throughout his existence, but, as everyone knows, he always manages to get out of them.  Now it’s your turn to try and create an inescapable trap for the caped crusader in Arkham City: Escape.  An epic two-player game that pits The Dark Knight against his greatest foes (all in the Arkham City game design) inside the titular prison city.  What makes the game interesting is that each assortment of villains is chosen randomly, making every game a new experience.  One player tries to kill the Batman while the other tries to punch baddies in the teeth.

In the deep, dark reaches of the jungle exists hidden resources of the best coffee beans in the world.  It’s your job to venture forth and find them.  VIVA JAVA!  In this Coffee Game, players compete against each other as they travel across the globe searching for the finest beans the world has to offer.  If the going gets tough, however, you can choose whether or not you will team up with the other players so that you both come out caffeinated.  For all the coffee lovers out there, here’s a fresh cup o’ Viva Java!

In the fourth-quel to the ever more popular Quarriors! dice game series, Quartifacts, a new set of dice known as Quest Dice.  In this expansion, all the mystical relics of the previous Quarriors! games have disappeared, leaving you, the questor, to venture after them.  Quest cards will allow you to unleash your creatures in order to find them.  In addition, five new creatures, two new spells, The Squire basic, and six Quest cards and dice are also included.  Quet quor Quarriors! quon!

A resource management game with a new spin, Saint Malo blends dice games, resource management, and…drawing?  Players roll dice to decide what villagers, buildings, and so forth that they are allotted, then draw them onto the erasable grid board in front of  them.  But be quick about how you arrange your resources because they’re going to need to protect you from the pirates that are invading the city.

The Conquest of Planet Earth continues.  But now it’s the Apocalypse.

The first expansion to the original Flying Frog Productions game that pits Earth against a horde of invading martians kicks the total number of players up to six.  This increase of playablity comes in addition to an entirely new alien faction, including new miniatures like The Cube!  As much of this expansion’s action takes place over the ocean, a Coastal Resistance Deck is included to boost Earth’s defenses.  The invasion has begun, fight to stop the conquest!

Achieving a huge amount of positive response from their initial reprintings of the Dungeons and Dragons Advanced hardcovers, Wizards decided to reprint the 3.5 edition core books.  Now, it’s 2nd edition’s turn, as the three core books, the Player’s Guide, DM’s Guide, and Monster Manual are all reprinted in beautiful embossed hardcover editions, complete with their original artwork and errata-ed material.  Pick them up to collect the classic versions of D&D in total!

That moment where you’ve battled your way through a dungeon full of orks, traps, man-eating spiders, and cursed passways to find the treasure trove of shiny goodness has finally transfered to your search for 3.5 books. Wizards, following on the footsteps of their AD&D reprint editions, have released the original Player’s Handbook, Monster Manual, and Game Master’s Guide from 3.5, updated with remastered artwork and covers. These limited editon versions are unaltered from their original presentation, so instead of tracking original copies down, get yourself brand spanking new ones.

You’ve waited and waited. You’ve heard rumors from Gen Con. Now the wait is over. Netrunner is here. An updated version of the original CCG, Netrunner from Fantasy Flight adapts the original rules to Fantasy Flight‘s winning LCG format. Players still take on the role of either a Runner or a Corporation in a head-to-head battle of techno-warfare.

It’s that time of year where the Duel Decks rain from the clouds to bring expensive cards and playable decks to all the good girls and boys. Izzet vs. Golgari is what’s up this time around, with Golgari becoming playable in standard after Return to Ravnica drops. Other cards in the two decks will be playable, too, while also earning you your money back on the purchase. And if your a player who’s just starting out with Magic the Gathering, the Duel Decks are always perfect places to start building your collection and honning your skills.

If it ain’t broke, reprint it.

Or, at least, that seems to be Wizards of the Coast’s motto. Two weeks ago, all three of the original Advanced Dungeons & Dragons books were reprinted in beautiful remastered hardcover packaging. The DM’s Guide, Player’s Handbook, and Monster Manual are untouched rules-wise while also reprinting all the original artwork. Plus, each purchase puts part of the funds toward furthering the Gygax Memorial Fund.

Crossing the street for a visit to Paizo, the new Pathfinder Player Character Folio. Coming with sixteen pages that will help you to organize and track your character’s progression and abilities. Broken into boxes and sections for listing feats, class features, familiars, cohorts, and items, as well as quick reference charts and folder flaps, this folio is all you’ll ever need to stay on top of all your character’s developments.

Chasing dragons is usually not advised as they are regularly unfriendly when caught, however the new Game of Thrones LCG Chapter Pack of the same name actually advises it. As with the other Chapter Packs, the Chasing Dragons pack comes with 60 new cards for the Beyond the Narrow Sea cycle. If you haven’t played any of the LCG games before, each chapter pack is designed to advance the story and alter the gameplay, so, in short, keep the game fresh and interesting.

Agricola is easily one of the best resource management games ever created, but it is a long game and it is intented for multiple players. But don’t worry, Z-Man is on top of it. The new Agricola two player game has parred the playstyle down, adapting Agricola for a quick head-to-head, stand-alone experience. Players compete by working to fence in the most animals over the period of eight turns.

It is, in fact, not a small world after all.

Days of Wonder releases a new addition to their popular Risk-style board (featured on Will Wheaton’s Tabletop) this week, Small World Realms. This edition to the game is a collection of map pieces, tokens, and original rules scenarios, allowing players to create their own board for use by races and powers from either the original Small World or Small World Underground. So, maybe the real answer to whether it’s a small world after all is: it’s up to you.

Axis & Allies releases two updated and altered versions of its classic wargame structure today with Axis & Allies 1942 Second Edition and Axis & Allies 1941. The 1942 edition is an updated, heftier version of the previous edition, complete with new units. 1941, however, is an entirely new Axis & Allies release featuring the same popular mechanics in a different theater of war.
