One of tonight’s multiple superhero related games, VS System: The Defenders is the first expansion pack for the recently relaunched card game. Who are The Defenders, you might ask? Well, they may not be as well known as The Avengers, but, within a year or so, you’ll be pretty familiar with them as all of the Netflix solo series will come together as The Defenders. This 200 card expansion pack focuses on characters related to those series, like Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones, as well as included new card mechanics. A quick-to-play, exclusively two player experience, VS System is perfect for nerdy couples or friends looking for a head-to-head experience.
From Soda Pop Miniatures, creators of Super Dungeon Explorer, comes a very non-miniature style of game, Ninja All Stars Karate Fight. Made for two to four players, this card game is a dexterity card matching game. Like Slapjack, players attempt to react swiftly to cards thrown down on the table, hoping that their reflexes are quicker when grabbing for matching cards. Ninja All Stars Karate Fight is designed in a cutesy, Chibi fashion with ninja themed illustrations featured on each card.
If you haven’t heard, 2016 is the 75th Anniversary of the creation of Captain America! In honor of that event, Upper Deck has released a special Captain America 75th Anniversary expansion for Legendary. Like previous Legendary expansions, this one contains over 100 cards, including five heroes, two masterminds, two villain groups, and four original schemes. Among the character options are different versions of the Sentinel of Liberty, including Sam Wilson, Bucky, and various versions of Steve Rogers.
Sly as a fox is an appropriate refrain for Iello‘s Master Fox board game. Great fun for young players and families, Master Fox is a twenty minute dexterity game for two to four players. In the game, players take on the role of foxes vying for dominance in the forest, as the elder fox is moving on to greener pastures. In the game, various wooden animal tokens are randomly thrown into the box lid, then each player takes turns blindfolding themselves and grabbing for certain animals using nothing but their sense of touch.
Appropriately released the same weekend as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Dicemasters drops another starter kit for the DC line. World’s Finest is another two-player starter set, that includes all of the essential materials players need to get into the game. Specific to World’s Finest are forty-four dice and thirty-nine new cards, as well as a rulebook and a dice bag. The heroes and villains you’ll find in this starter are also, fittingly, all Batman and Superman related characters, such as Steel, Power Girl, Robin, and Nightwing.
