SpyfallFor three to eight players, Spyfall from Cryptozoic is a one-of-a-kind conversation-based game.  Players have a few minutes to identify a spy in on of the numerous locations – a day spa, a space station, a submarine, and so on.  Observation, concentration, nonchalance, and cunning – you’ll need all of them in this game!Nevermore

In the game of Nevermore, players must collect the cards to success.  Build your hand each round, drafting cards you want and poisoning your opponent’s hand by passing along cards you think they can’t use.  Whoever has the most of a suit, gains the power of that suit – doing damage, healing, gaining Light and Shadow magicks and scoring victory points.  Will you transform all your rivals into ravens – or can they regain their human form in time to score enough Victory to Dark Angels Codex 2015win?

The updated Dark Angels Codex is out this weekend alongside a slew of other Dark Angels product.  The Codex contains information on the history of the faction, a showcase of Citadel miniatures, a comprehensive army list, and an appendix.  Also out this weekend are the Dark Angel Datacards and the new Dark Angels Interrogator-Chaplain.Forbidden Stars

We’ll continue to stick around the 40K universe with the next board game release, Forbidden Stars.  Released by Fantasy Flight, Forbidden Stars has two to four players take the helm of a mighty faction from the Warhammer 40K universe.  Dominate rich planetary systems and use their resources to fuel your engines of war.  Brave the madness of the Warp, transform your worlds into Pafumeimpenetrable bastions, and slaughter your foes.

Another in the long line of family friendly Queen Games, Parfum is out this weekend.  Parfum transports players to the wonderful world of fragrances, which dates back hundreds of years to when aromatic scents were first used in the Orient in myriad ways.  As master perfumers, players distill precious essences and create unique perfumes using ingredients like vanilla and lavender.  But each customer has their own preferences, so even the most charming symphony of fragrances must satisfy the tastes of the wealthy clientele.  Choose your aroma dice skillfully and mind well your client’s desires in order to become the most successful Peloponnesperfumer.

In Peloponnese, players will take control of a powerful civilization of ancient Greece.  You’ll develop your civilization through the eight game rounds, add territory and build prestigious buildings.  These increase your civilizations’ inhabitants, luxury, wealth, and power.  Some buildings also offer protection against the destructive disasters.  Only through a good balance between inhabitants, Fairytale Gloomland, and buildings you claim victory and join the gods of Peloponnese.

A new variation on the popular Gloom format, Fairytale Gloom where players control the gruesome fates of famous literary characters like Jack, Gretel, and Puss in Boots.  Unique transparent cards stack on top of each other to make scoring easy.  The points you can see are the points in play!Albion's Legacy

Just DessertsWe begin tonight’s New Game Stuff with dessert.  Just Desserts is the newest card game from Looney Labs, makers of Fluxx and Chrononauts.  Similar to Fluxx, players are drawing and playing cards in an effort to match a goal card in the center of the table.  The goal in this instance, however, is a hungry guest whom you have to feed a specific pairing of desserts. The Lord of the Rings The Treason of Saruman

Much like the film adaptations, the Lord of the Rings LCG Saga expansions keep on coming out.  The Treason of Saruman is the newest Saga expansion, featuring one hundred and sixty-five cards to be incorporated into the base game.  Set during the The Two Towers period of the novels, this expansion contains new heroes and player cards that walk the player Dark Seasthrough the events of Helm’s Deep, Rohan, and the battle with Saruman.

A fresh take on the pirate gaming genre, Dark Seas is a dice-based game where players accumulate a pirate fleet and empire by rolling dem bones.  By rolling sets of custom dice, each player constructs ports, acquires crewmen, sets sail, and hordes treasure, all in effort of becoming the most feared and respected pirate on the seven seas!Argent The Consortium

Long awaited and hotly anticipated, the Iron Kingdoms Unleashed core rulebook hits shelves this weekend.  Following the successful launch of the Unleashed Adventure Kit a couple weeks back, the core rulebook introduces the essential rules, character creation mechanics, and other necessary traits to run a roleplaying game set in the vast, steampunk-inspired universe of Warmachine!Dominion Adventures

Other deck building games have been churning out expansions like mad over the last year, but the originator, Dominion, has stayed somewhat silent.  This weekend that changes as the ninth expansion for the popular deck building game arrives.  Dominion Adventures sees the return of a popular mechanic from the Seaside expansion, Duration Cards.  Along with these, Adventures also includes thirty Kingdom cards, twenty Event cards, and new Reserve cards that can be saved for later use.

Walkers are running rampant and its your duty to shoot’em down.

The Walking Dead Card Game from Cryptozoic is a brand new way to experience the post-zombie lifestyle, coming with two ways to play:  Hero and survival mode.  Hero mode has players taking control of a character from the show in an effort to earn more zombie points than the other 2-6 players.  Survival mode, on the other hand, pits 3-11 players against each other, but, instead of trying to nab the most points, everyone is trying to accumulate the least.  Perfect for parties full of Walking Dead fans, this new card game is easy to learn and fun to play.

Marvel‘s Legendary becomes a little more, uh, legendary-er this week thanks to Dark City, the deck building game’s first expansion.  Not only does this expansion offer seventeen new characters and five villains (like Cable, Colossus, Moon Knight, Blade, Kingpin, Loki, and Apocalypse), but also augmented game rules.  These include expanded abilities for bystanders, giving them autonomy, as well as character artwork that clarifies who has power when.

Lovers of Apples to Apples should take note of Word Whimsy.  This party game of wordplay is structured similar to the aforementioned game, but around phrases instead of single words.  Players take turns drawing prompt cards, like “My Professional Wrestling Name” or “Favorite Bar”, then proceed to arrange cards from their hand into the wackiest answer to that prompt.  And while this version can serve 3-7, there are also other variants included that alter the entire game.

Just when you thought they were done, there’s more Dominion.

Dominion Guilds is the eighth expansion released for this mega-popular deck building series.  This time around, the theme revolves around jobs and what citizens of the township need to do to get them.  Thirteen new kingdom cards as well as coin tokens to wile away for use later.  Other cards come with a starting cost, but can be bought for more money in order gain the user further abilities.

We’ll cover the next two games in the order the original books were released, just to play it like OG nerds.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey board game is a one to four player game that lasts up to an hour, ferrying players through the events of Peter Jackson’s first Hobbit film.  A cooperative experience, players take control of Bilbo and his dwarf companions, attempting to collect gems and gold as you out maneuver and defeat the monsters in your path.  Designed by Reiner Knizia, this is no simple property game.

The second Tolkien/Cryptozoic collaboration out this week, The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring Deck Building Game enters the deck building arena, telling the rest “They CAN NOT PAAAAAAASSSSS!”  Structured identically to the DC Deck Building Game, players take on the roles of either Frodo, Samwise, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, or Boromir, facing off against the forces of Sauron.  Players purchase cards from the center of the table to build-up their own decks in an effort to defeat orcs, Balrogs, and Nazgûl.  Also, in an absurdest twist, this game can be combined the DC Deck Builder for Gollum vs. Superman battles.

Hive Pocket, it’s just like having a pocket full of bugs!

…actually, no, that’s a horrible comparison, it’s not like that at all. No, instead it’s like having an extremely addictive game at the ready to play any time you wish. And why is Hive such a great game? It’s easy to learn. It’s challenging. Both expansions for the game are included. And you can play it anywhere! A fresh take on the chess format, Hive Pocket has become a classic game in a short number of years.

A grand framework for classic roleplaying action, the Adventurer Conqueror King System hardcover will transport you back to the original days of dungeon crawling. No matter what you want to do, the ACKS has the tools to build it. With 12 classes, a unique proficiency system, tons of monster options, and much more, ACKS makes for the ultimate sandbox RPG system.

With the Bounty Head Bebop RPG (think Mike Miegel instead of Spike Spiegel) you take on the role of a jazzy, planet-jumping head hunter. Similar to some popular, ehhm, popular anime show people know about, Bounty Head Bebop comes equipped with all the essential details anyone will need to play. That’s ships, baddies, guns, missions, and a quick-to-learn rule system. And speaking of systems, this one runs of an inverted D20 structure where players use a D20 for everyone roll. So, call Fey…umm, I mean, May up, turn on some smooth tunes, and rocket out of the cosmos.

The market is fierce in Kairo!

Players battle to tempt prospective customers to their booth in order to sell their wares. Each player control different stalls, using cards to move customers around the board, trying to bring them by their storefront. Coming from Queen Games, makers of Alhambra, Kingdom Builder (which may come up again in a little bit), and, the entirely too underrated game, Samarkand, Kairo is guaranteed to learn quickly, play competitively, and impress the whole family.

As I hinted, tonight’s last new game is the first Kingdom Builder expansion, Nomads! And this thing is chock-full of game-altering goodness. First off, it adds enough settlements to bump the game up to five players! Along with that, though, the nomads are introduced, who replace the castle spaces from the original game. New terrain types and cards which allow gold acquistion during the game are also included. If you’ve had a chance to play Kingdom Builder, you’re well aware of it’s massive addictiveness and overall enjoyment factor, so why not add onto the fun?
