VS System The Defenders VersusOne of tonight’s multiple superhero related games, VS System:  The Defenders is the first expansion pack for the recently relaunched card game.  Who are The Defenders, you might ask?  Well, they may not be as well known as The Avengers, but, within a year or so, you’ll be pretty familiar with them as all of the Netflix solo series will come together as The Defenders.  This 200 card expansion pack focuses on characters related to those series, like Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones, as well as included new card mechanics.  A quick-to-play, exclusively two player experience, VS System is perfect for nerdy couples or friends looking for a head-to-head experience.Ninja All Stars Karate Fight

From Soda Pop Miniatures, creators of Super Dungeon Explorer, comes a very non-miniature style of game, Ninja All Stars Karate Fight.  Made for two to four players, this card game is a dexterity card matching game.  Like Slapjack, players attempt to react swiftly to cards thrown down on the table, hoping that their reflexes are quicker when grabbing for matching cards.  Ninja All Stars Karate Fight is designed Legendary Captain America 75th Anniversary expansionin a cutesy, Chibi fashion with ninja themed illustrations featured on each card.

If you haven’t heard, 2016 is the 75th Anniversary of the creation of Captain America!  In honor of that event, Upper Deck has released a special Captain America 75th Anniversary expansion for Legendary.  Like previous Legendary expansions, this one contains over 100 cards, including five heroes, two masterminds, two villain groups, and four original schemes.  Among the character options are different versions of the Sentinel of Liberty, including Sam Wilson, Bucky, and various versions of Steve Rogers.Master Fox

Sly as a fox is an appropriate refrain for Iello‘s Master Fox board game.  Great fun for young players and families, Master Fox is a twenty minute dexterity game for two to four players.  In the game, players take on the role of foxes vying for dominance in the forest, as the elder fox is moving on to greener pastures.  In the game, various wooden animal tokens are randomly thrown into the box lid, then each player takes turns blindfolding themselves and grabbing for certain animals using nothing but their sense World's Finest Dicemasters expansionof touch.

Appropriately released the same weekend as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Dicemasters drops another starter kit for the DC line.  World’s Finest is another two-player starter set, that includes all of the essential materials players need to get into the game.  Specific to World’s Finest are forty-four dice and thirty-nine new cards, as well as a rulebook and a dice bag.  The heroes and villains you’ll find in this starter are also, fittingly, all Batman and Superman related characters, such as Steel, Power Girl, Robin, and Nightwing.

Midnighter v.1 tpbMidnighter v.1 tpb

-One of DC‘s most underrated, under read series being released right now!  Now’s your chance to catch up.

-Midnighter is a Batman-esque anti-hero from the former Wildstorm universe, but, unlike Batman, Midnighter has no reservations about punching his fist literally through someone’s face.

-Writer Steve Orlando crafts a wonderful slow build story where Midnighter juggles his dating life (after recently having broken up with his boyfriend) and the apprehension of wayward weapons he was supposed to protect.

-Each aspect is brought to explosively stylistic life by the unique art style of Aco; trust me, it looks nothing like any series you’re currently reading.

When you step outside these days you may assume we’ve made a deal with Hell to lease out some reality, but, all signs aside, that’s not actually the case. However, in Absalom: Ghosts of London, it is. Pulled from the ever-present 2000 AD Magazine (one of the longest running comics in history), Absalom is a supernatural cop book that blends the likes of Hellboy, Hellblazer, and Captain Britain in a world where London has signed a peace treaty with the underworld.

However, Absalom, an immortal, elderly cop doesn’t make friends with demons easily.

If you’re anything like me, you read Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Immortal Iron Fist four years ago and then sobbed tears of sarrow when it was put on hiatus. Sadly, that “hiatus” turned into a cancellation, while Fraction and Aja moved onto other projects. Well, it may not be Iron Fist, but the new Hawkeye series is as close as can be. With a slick, seventies espionage vibe and inventive visuals, this Hawkeye book will be perfect for long-time fans of the character as well as those who found out about him from the Avengers movie.

Here’s a little secret: the best books being published right now are coming from Image comics.  With series like Prophet, Saga, Manhattan Projects, and Revival, there’s no doubt the publisher has some quality works under their belt. And, this Wednesday, their adding a couple of other great reads to their repertoire.

Think Tank is up first. Brain power is on display in this new series about a genius, mass murder doctor, David Loren, who’s trying to out think the government agency who’s employed him as a weapons builder for years. Can he do it? Will he be killled? Will he cause a ton of destruction? Yes.

Organs. Not the musical kind, but the you-need-them-to-live kind are the key to the other new Image book, Harvest. This five issue miniseries is a race against time for Dr. Ben Dane as he tries to reclaim organs already put into people in order to escape his own death. Beautiful artwork from newcomer Colin Lorimer tells the tale in the most gruesome, yet gorgeous manner.

Banks may not be the most popular entities right now, but I’d wager a guess that they might earn a little more love if they all looked like last week’s Deadpool Bust Bank or this week’s Black Costume Spider-Man Bust Bank.

Occupy Spider-Man Bank just doesn’t seem as likely.

If you’ve been a comic reader for a while or know anything about Marvel comic history, you may have heard that The Defenders get laughed at a fair amount.  To be fair, they were comprised of a rather unusual group of heroes (I mean, how the heck did Hulk, Dr. Strange, and Namor ever have anything to talk about?).  However, as is the way with comics, everything that was made fun of can be serious again, which is the case with Matt Fraction‘s new Defenders #1.  Starting up this week, the new take on the classic team is once again lead by the master of magic himself, Steven Strange, but also claims Namor, Iron Fist, Red She-Hulk, and Silver Surfer.  Yes, another eclectic roster, but in Matt Fraction‘s hands that means good reading.  Especially considering his run on the Immortal Iron Fist is one of the most exceptional comic runs in recent history.  Add to all of that the fact that the team will be chasing down the new Black Hulk and you’ve got a recipe for insanity.

Another book that dredges up the hits of the past, polishes them off, and places them all shiny and new into your lap is Dynamite Comic‘s Voltron #1.  The first thing you’ll notice about this book is the gorgeous painted cover by industry legend Alex Ross.  As usual, Ross conveys childhood nostalgia with every stroke.  Inside the book, you’ll find Ariel Padilla’s artwork to be equal parts colorful and explosive.  Story-wise, the book pulls from all incarnations of Voltron to create a fresh take on the characters for new and old readers alike.

If you’ve been following the DCU Online Statue collection, you’ve likely noticed they’ve all been top quality sculpts of fan favorite characters.  You’ve probably also noticed that the Joker has not been among the releases thus far.  Well, this Wednesday, that changes.

Feast your eyes on the Crown Prince of Crime’s DCU Online Statue.

Just not too long, he’ll dose you in acid.

Okay, so you’re preparing for your holiday feast, getting the turkey cooked, the stuffing stuffed, the potatoes mashed, and the nog egged.  Then you dip a cup into the bowl of eggnog, take a sip, and realize…something’s missing.  Think.  Think.  Wait a tick, that’s it!  The X-Men is what’s missing!

And that’s where the new Uncanny X-Men and Avengers Toon Tumbler Pint Glasses come in handy, adding that extra little spice of nerd that’s so desired in your holiday meal.
