Sylvion card gameSpinning out of the popular cooperative card game, Onirim, Sylvion is another one to two player card game that requires players to work together.  A tower defense game, Sylvion requires players to construct a deck of cards that can successfully fight off slowly approaching rows of villain cards.  The edition of the game Pulp currently has in stock not only contains the base game, but also two expansions.Trap Zany Zombies

From IDW (yes, those cats that publish comics) comes a new dice rolling, card game called Trap!  From Jeffrey Neil Bellinger, the designer of Killer Bunnies, Trap! has players using their memory and a handful of quirky cards to ensnare the biggest set of creatures they can over the course of five furiously frantic rounds.  Currently, the game comes in two versions, Zany Zombies and Nimble Ninjas.  Each version has players collecting zombies and ninjas, respectively, but both include a “link and lock” Open Sesamecard that allows players to combine them.

Open Sesame, also from IDW, is a press-your-luck card game of high-stakes memorization and deduction by world-renowned game designer and multi-Spiel des Jahres winner, Antoine Bauza (7 Wonders, Takenoko, Tokaido, Rampage, Hanabi).  Take turns alternating between the role of Ali Baba or one of the thieves raiding the Cave of Treasures.  As Ali Baba you’ll steal treasure from the cave until you’re trapped or you flee, and as the thieves, it’s your job to carefully observe and recite exactly what it is that Ali is attempting to escape with.Little Red Riding Hood

From one folktale to another, the newest addition to the popular, family-friendly Tales and Games series is Little Red Riding Hood.  In the game, players will work together to help Little Red Riding Hood reach grandma’s cottage before the wolf sticks his nose where it’s not welcome!  Choose from two modes of play, either everyone works together or one player plays as the wolf and the other team plays as Little Red Riding Hood and friends.  And, as always, along with the game is a written booklet telling the Dark Gothic Colonial Horror Deck Building GameRed Riding Hood tale.

Dark Gothic:  Colonial Horror is a stand-alone expansion for the Dark Gothic Deck Building Game.  It can be mixed in with the original Dark Gothic game to add new mechanics and greater variety, or it can be played on its own as a two to three player game that plays at a faster clip.  In Dark Gothic, each player takes on the role of a unique monster-hunting hero, collecting allies and gear to aid them in their journeys Machi Koro Deluxe Editionwhile they root out evil and hunt supernatural creatures back to their lairs.

Flying Frog‘s supernatural Western board game Shadows of Brimstone (you might know it as the honking huge Western game instead) receives its first expansion set this weekend.  Caverns of Cynder adds an entire “other world” set of map tiles, creatures, and threats for the intrepid players to adventure through.  The Caverns are lava filled, dilapidated mines that are teeming with lava creatures (represented by a new set of miniatures).  An added adventure pits the heroes against a horde of lava creatures who are attempting to cross a bridge intoX-Wing Force Awakens starter box the real world.  They must be stopped at all costs!

Dungeon Roll Legends Hero Booster Pack 2Another party of adventurers joins the Dungeon Roll!

The Dungeon Roll Legends Hero Booster Pack #2 provides eight entirely new heroes to be mixed into the popular dungeon crawl dice game.  These heroes, however, are far beefier than any of the previous heroes, so make sure to play them against each other or in a situation where other players are looking for a challenge.Deus board game

Deus is Latin for God, making it a perfect name for the new hand management where players pray to their society’s deities through offerings.  Deus begins with players receiving a hand of five cards, randomly featuring one of six colors.  Each color represents a resource (military, trade, temples, etc.), which is then used to construct buildings in honor of the gods.  These buildings are placed on a variable board (whose dimensions are Village Port Expansiondecided by the number of players) in order to acquire points and gain victory.

The boundaries of the popular Tasty Minstrel Game release, Village, continue to grow.  Village:  Port is the newest expansion for the game and it is a sizable one.  Not only does Port give players the option of boarding a skiff and sailing the seas in order to find buried treasure, but also new life goal cards that allow players to choose career options for their characters.Chez Geek Slack to the Future

It’s taken Steve Jackson a bit of time to get another Chez Geek expansion out on the shelves, but, to be fair, the game is about who can be the laziest.  Like a slacker cousin to the popular Munchkin franchise, Chez Geek has players earning slack points for doing as little as they can.  Slack to the Future, the creatively titled expansion that hits shelves this weekend includes fifty-six new jobs, Aqua Spherefriends, food, and activities that can be used to acquire “slack” in the game.

While it may not be as insane as Sealab 2021, AquaSphere is still a frantic game of underwater area control.  Players compete to collect data regarding the ocean.  Every player controls a team of researchers (comprised of a scientist, engineer, robots, and submarines) across to halves of the game board (a lab and headquarters).  Gathering knowledge points moves you closer to winning and to do so players must expend actions to observe octopuses, expand your lab, or increase your team’s abilities.Hanabi Deluxe

Hanabi, among the most popular cooperative games on the market, gains a deluxe edition this weekend.  Deluxe Hanabi plays exactly like the original, with player working together to create a fireworks display.  The trick is that each player can see everyone but their own fireworks, requiring everyone to describe and hint at what each other has.  The Deluxe Hanabi edition replaces the standard cards with Mahjong tiles, reflecting the Eastern influence and setting of the game.

Catalyst Game Labs have cooked up a head-to-head tile game that rivals chess.  Meet The Duke.

Players move armies of soldiers toward their opponent’s Duke, attempting to capture him.  How these armies are moved across the field is the unique bit.  Each troop is indicated by a tile, designated with a special movement ability (side-to-side, forward-and-back, etc.), but each also has an entirely different ability on the back which is activated after the tile is moved.

Hanabi, an impressively popular cooperative card game released over the last couple weeks, is back in stock.

Players work together to try and construct the most impressive fireworks show in all of Japan by laying down cards in a particular order.  Where it gets tricky is that everyone holds their cards outward, facing the other players, so that their holder can not see them.

Forget second life, first life is where World of Warcraft Trivial Pursuit is at!

Applying the classic Trivial Pursuit format (roll, move, answer question in a category, rinse, repeat) to the World of the Warcraft, players compete against each other in a game of nerdy knowledge, attempting to out fact those who they would normally spear within WoW.

Warhammer Fantasy releases an updated, brand new Dark Elves Codex this weekend!

Side-scrolling video games always end with a menacing boss monster, but those poor, lonely, hard-working soles never get any respect.

Until Boss Monster the card game!

A popular Kickstarter endeavor, Boss Monster has players controlling the boss monster at the end of an 8-bit side-scrolling level, but the twist is that you get to assemble the level.  Balancing appealing loot with deadly challenges, players attempt to make their level more appealing to would-be heroes than their boss monster peers.  Just remember to leave that axe away from that bridge line.
