Why FirstBecause of irony, Why First? seems like the ideal game to discuss at the outset of New Game Stuff.  Resembling the now out-of-print Magical Athlete racing game, Why First? favors those who come in second.  Players will lay down movement cards to propel them around the track, but will have to strategically attempt to lag behind other players in hopes of coming in second.Munchkin Nightmare Before Christmas

Put on your black eye shadow and run an electric current through your hair to get your Tim Burton on!  The Nightmare Before Christmas edition of Munchkin is here!  In a ghoulish twist on the classic game, players will arm themselves with a vampire teddy, the Mayor’s badge, and bat hat, and charge into battle on Santa’s sleigh.  Become a citizen of Halloween Town, Christmas Town, Thanksgiving Town, or Easter Town.  Try to banish foes The Village Cronesuch as Oogie Boogie, Doctor Finkelstein, and Lock, Shock, and Barrel!

You may want to stay away from pyres, but outside of that The Village Crone from Fireside Games (Castle Panic) can be a rewarding experience.  Ever wanted to put a curse on an annoying acquaintance?  Ever wanted to get ahead in life through magical means?  Well, The Village Crone satisfies those urges.  A worker placement and resource management game at its core, one to six players will attempt to met certain win conditions by mixing potions and cursing townsfolk.Paladin Class Deck Pathfinder Adventure Card Game

The Pathfinder Adventure Card Game expands its characters options this weekend with two new character decks.  First up, is the Paladin Class Deck, which includes a new version of Seelah and two brand new Paladin characters.  Second, we have the Monk Class Deck which also includes a new version of Sajan plus two other Monk characters.  Finally, the fifth Dungeon of FortuneAdventure Deck for the Wrath of the Righteous adventure path, which is the penultimate deck.

TMG had a hit with the dungeon crawl dice game, Dungeon Roll, and now they’ve taken that formula and applied it to a push-your-luck format.  For two to six players, Dungeon of Fortune approximates a descent into a traditional dungeon, full of loot.  Players will compete Firefly Kalidasa expansionwith each other to collect great shares of gold and coins, that will increase the deeper you go.

Arguably the most shiny expansion for the Firefly board game yet, Kalidasa is the second rim space expansion set to be released.  In this expansion, players will receive a new section of gameboard that physically extends the game’s play area.  As well, a new ship model called The Operative’s Corvette is included alongside two new contacts (Magistrate Higgins and Fanty and Mingo).

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their significant others!

All of this can occur in Ragnarok:  Fate of the Norns.  This Kickstarter funded roleplaying game is set in a Viking realm, deep and rich with epic grandeur of Norse mythology.  Made for two to eight players, Ragnarok relies not on dice rolls, but special rune icons (included with the game).

The far-flung future of the Numenera RPG gains its second supplemental book for the game, The Devil’s Spine.  Containing a set of linked adventures, Devil’s Spine can be used to supply singular adventures for the system or the beginnings of a full-on campaign.

Warmachine’s Iron Kingdoms roleplaying system gains a fancy, metal token set this weekend.  The set contains focus, spell, feat, cripple, fire, and many more tokens, all of which are dry-erase compatible, allowing you to mark on them without permanent effect.

Warp speed has been engaged on the Redshirts Deluxe Edition.  Which means someone is going to be beaten to death by a gorn.

This special edition of the game comes complete with entirely new, remastered artwork as well as the To Boldly Go expansion.  For those unfamiliar with the game, each player takes on the role of a starship captain attempting to eliminate all of their own redshirts before any other player can.

The Halloween season is upon us and that includes the King of Tokyo.

King of Tokyo:  Halloween is another new expansion for the hit monster-battle game.  This expansion contains two new monsters, each creepy and Halloween themed, as well as special costume cards that enhance each monster.

If you’ve ever thought that what the hit deception game, Bang!, was missing is vampires, Blood Bound is the game for you!

Though the company missed out on a huge opportunity to name the game Fang!, Blood Bound is still an awesome group experience where players attempt to figure out who is a vampire and who is a human (among other designations).

Adding more treasures to its booby trapped vault, Fortune and Glory:  The Cliffhanger Game gains an expansion in Rise of the Crimson Hand.  This expansion adds cards to the game decks, detailed villain miniatures, epic city events, and dangers like never before, including the new “deadly tests” option.  Inspired by pulpy adventurers and Indiana Jones, Fortune and Glory is for fans of classic adventure stories.

The Mage Knight board game adds a new ultra baddie in the form of Krang.  Krang is a Orc Chaos Shaman, who is a completely playable character coming complete with a miniature, tokens, and cards.

The second Numenera related game to appear tonight, Thunderstone: Numenera is an entirely stand-alone version of the Thunderstone Advanced system, but set in the world of Numenera, an Earth a billion years in the future.

Family drama increases in Gloom:  Unquiet Dead.

In the game of darkly humored fratricide, players compete to kill their family members in the most horrific ways.  Unquiet Dead adds stories (a new way to kill family members), undead (abilities that let your family become fantastic creatures like werewolves and vampires), and timing symbols (a new feature that effects when actions take place).

Famed game designer Martin Wallace delivers yet another game set in the Discworld of Terry Pratchett.  The Witches:  A Discworld Game has players taking on the roles of trainee witches in either solo, cooperative, or competitive gameplay modes.

Finally, two of the most popular fantasy gaming franchises come together for a singular gaming experience!

Yes, folks, Munchkin Pathfinder is here!

This new base edition of Munchkin comes with Pathfinder-related characters, monsters, items, and other goodies.  And imagine all of that paired with the classic Munchkin wit and John Kovalic’s recognizable artwork.

Why type about Castellan when I can post a video?

Stefan Feld, creator of Bruges and The Castles of Burgundy, brings Bora Bora to the table today.  A dice-rolling, worker placement game, Bora Bora has players roll dice to gain workers which they must place carefully over a course of limited actions.  The amount of actions per turn is decided by the number of players, anywhere from two to four.

Rise of Augustus, created by Paolo Mori (Pocket Battles), is an objective-based gaming experience where players are dealt six objective cards at the beginning of a game, each of which will be replaced as they are completed.  As objectives are completed, players will earn specific rewards, detailed on each card.  When seven objectives have been completed by a player, the game is over.

And you will walk a thousand miles, and I will walk a thousand more…in Tokaido!  From the creator of 7 Wonders, comes this colorful, beautifully designed and illustrated game about traveling down Japan’s East Sea Road.  The last player in line gets too choose which space they want to move to and complete the action on that space.  Whoever reaches the end of the track first, obtains victory!

With Halloween around the corner, Munchkin inevitably has to release a special seasonal booster.  And low, Munchkin Tricky Treats.  This fifteen card booster pack contains cards, like Zombie Costume, Favorite Machete, and Sparkly Vampire!

Also from Stefan Feld, The Pillars of the Earth:  Builder’s Duel is a new expansion for the game.  The goal is simple:  one player is attempting to build a cathedral, the other a fortress, the player who finishes construction first wins.  But, of course, each must collect materials before building can commence, and in order to do so action cards must be played.

Cubicle 7 continues racing through space and time as they release the Second Doctor Source Book for the Doctor Who RPG!  Each of these source books contain detailed character information for their titular Doctor, his companions, his enemies, and his TARDIS.  Each hardcover also contains plot synopses and adventure details for each episode in the titular Doctor’s seasons, acting as a valuable resource for game master’s as well as avid Doctor Who fanatics.

Goblins where so last season.

The Pathfinder Battles mini assortments have risen from the dead with a brand new (and decaying) Undead Horde assortment.  Like the recent Goblins assortment, each box contains twenty-four random, individual miniatures, hidden in blind bags.  Grab one and take the chance of getting figures like the Graveknight, Wight, Mummy Lord, and Lady Ghoul!

After a long hibernation, the Dirtboys, Gargoyles, and Dukes are back and better than ever!

Shadowrun 5th Edition has been talked about and talked about for months, but now it is here.  The updated and re-illustrated core rulebook is ready to take on a whole new generation of runners!

Preparing for this Wednesday’s Halloween ComicFest and actual Halloween, tonight’s Comic List Highlights features numerous creepy tales of horror and suspense, all of which arrive next new comic day. They may not be free like some of the other books for ComicFest, but they are freaky.

First up, for all the kids who still haven’t gone too bed, we’ll start with something a little less spooky. A + X is the new anthology series from Marvel coming out of AvX. Just like the AvX: Versus series, A + X features two separate stories featuring interactions between an Avenger and an X-Man as told by top artists and writers. Issue one has a Wolverine and Hulk story, sure to become a classic, told by Jeph Loeb and famous Hulk artist Dale Keown as well as a Cable and Captain America tale written by Dan Slott and drawn by Ron Garney. A + X is sure to be a fun, fast tale perfect for kids and those who adore classic Marvel missives made in the merry manner!

Alright, all the young’uns off to sleep?

Now for some adult stuff.

Bedlam #1 has been receiving some terrifically terrifying press as being the next huge Image comic series after Happy, Saga, and Revival. Nick Spencer, the notable mad genius behind Morning Glories, Infinite Vacation, and Thief of Thieves, joins forces will the ever-present Riley Rossmo (Rebel Blood, Wild Children, Cowboy Ninja Viking) to weave a narrative of a former psychopath and ruler of a tiny, quite town who used to go by Madder Red but now goes by Fillmore Press. A moody blend of Poe and Lovecraft, Bedlam #1 is an over sized story that’ll keep you hiding under the sheets at day’s end.

Are your teeth chattering in terror yet? No. Then let Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and Glen Fabry (Preacher) keep you shivering with Lot 13. A rare horror miniseries brought to you by DC Comics, Lot 13 calls back to famous scary films like The Amityville Horror, The Shinning, and Thirteen Ghosts as it relates how a normally happy family stumbles across a haunting apartment complex as they stop over on a cross-country move. Will they all still be alive by the next morning? Read and find out. If you dare.

DC‘s really keeping the hell fires burning this year with another horror series, this one being a one-shot anthology featuring at least ten short comics by, literally, DC‘s top, top talent. That’s Geoff Johns, Jeff Lemire, Paul Pope, Phil Jimenez, Amy Reeder, and one of the last stories by the late, unmatched Joe Kubert. The stories range from a robbery on a futuristic ghost ship, a haunt-for-hire agency, and numerous other inventively chilling campfire yarns. Get in the spirit and pick up this collection about spirits!
