Who you gonna call?

Well, in the case of The Phantom Society, the ghosts.

The Phantom Society is a fresh take on the haunted house game from Asterion Press.  Playable from two to four players, the game gives you the option of controlling the ghosts or the ghost hunters, both trapped in an aging hotel.  The former group is hellbent on causing destruction and haunting the guests, while the latter what to get famous by trapping some poltergeists.  Just don’t play it with the lights off…cause, you know, it’d be hard to see.

In Trains, the new edition designed by Hisashi Hayashi, players start with a small set of cards, but by building a more effective deck throughout the game, they will be able to place stations and lay rails over the maps of Osaka or Tokyo.  Gain enough points from your railways and you will ultimately manage the most powerful railroads in modern Japan.

Zombies!!! 12:  Zombie Zoo not only adds a new challenge to the Zombies!!! universe, in the form of a zoo challenge, but also six new types of zombies, including lions, tigers, polar bears, hyenas, monkeys, and gorillas.  Each of these undead animals will come between you and your goals, so work quickly!

Survive the Battle of Helm’s Deep!

The Lord of the Rings:  The Two Towers deck-building game expansion allows players to continue playing through the popular film franchise in card form.  This expansion introduces special cards that are automatically given to the starting hands of each Fellowship member, as well as card combos and a Wall of Helm’s Deep gaming scenario that adds a new layer to the gameplay.

Control the rise of six new civilizations in Civilization:  Wisdom and Warfare!

The fates of the Aztecs, English, French, Japanese, Mongols, and Zulu lie within your grasp.  Social policy cards give governments greater depth and power, while a new combat system makes battles more tactical and tense than ever before.  This expansion also adds new map tiles, new relics, and a new type of building.

The Heroes vs. Monsters Duel Deck contains ten rare cards and two mythic card, including Figure of Destiny, Sun Titan, and Deus of Calamity, as well as a preview card of Polukranos, World Eater, a mythic rare from Theros.  As usual, each of these decks is fully built and ready to play out of the box, a perfect set to learn on if you’re a new player!

With the Veterans of the Seas, the newest Tsuro expansion, you’ll be able to add more excitement to your game with the Tsunami and Uzushio (whirl pool) tiles.  However, this tile set also provides you with hope in the form of Cannons and the Mystic Portal may help you to overcome the devastation and be victorious!

Fire up your hyperdrive and embark on a journey to the farthest regions of the Star Wars galaxy.  Intrepid explorers, scrappy smugglers, and adventuresome academics must harness every skill in their arsenal to evade Imperial forces, thwart their competition, and finally explore – and survive – an uncharted world.  This full length adventure includes all-new adversaries, vehicles, and location ready for play in the Edge of the Empire RPG.

This next part will be more enjoyable if you read it in a forties street corner newsboy accent.

News from the Western front!  The Germans have begun to falter and left room for the Allies to take back ground!  That ground is now indicated by large, extra-thick modular game mats!  That’s right, Wings of Glory Game Mats!  Coming in Countryside, City, and Coast, players can link the various mats together for one gigantic battle surface!  And, if you haven’t yet encountered Wings of Glory, the Kaiser’s got nothing to do with this red, white, and blue miniature game!  Find out for yourself by picking up either of the new Duel Pack starter editions of the game, which come with two plane models, bases, counters, rulers, and a rulebook; it’s everything you need to send the Germans running!  Now, join us all in a rousing rendition of the American anthem!

10-4, Big Kahuna, it’s time for Another BIG Expansion for Galaxy Trucker!

That’s right, the only game where you travel the intergalactic highways, fighting off marauders from your space semi-truck as you deliver cargo to the next planet gets a new expansion box.  Any of the contents of this special delivery can be played with or without the previous expansion, but must be played with the base Galaxy Trucker game.  Brand new ship boards with rules, ship components to build with, intruders to attack your ship, and support staff to ease your travel are among the many extras and additives included in this cargo.  Give me a tug on that horn if you’re gonna pick it up!!

Y’all done hear the tale of Revolver?  Nah?  Well, mosey on up ta the campfire for a tale.

Though it all began with Revolver, tonight you’re gonna hear ’bout it’s young’n, Revolver 2.  It’s a yarn about a tiny town versus an army, ‘General’ Mapache’s army, ta be precise.  One player takes control of the town’s residents and the gunfighters they’ve hired to protect them, while the other player takes control of Mapache’s army.  Each hombre controls their own deck of cards, including weapons, actions, and win condition cards.  And, if you’ve got’a lucky horse, you might feel like adding one of the other expansion packs, Hunt the Man Down or Ambush on Gunshot Trail, for added play modules.  Now, eat your beans, bed down of the night, an’ don’t let a rattlesnake bite your nose.

Last but in no way least, the new Magic the Gathering set came out this evening.  Gatecrash is the second set in the Return to Ravnica block, and the second set of guilds.  We currently have in stock booster boxes for English, Russian, Korean, and Japanese cards for the set, as well as Fat Packs and Intro Decks.  The guilds for this set include Orzhov, Simic, Gruul, Boros, and Dimir, so be sure to get your matching sleeves and deck boxes to accentuate your cards.

It’s not quite to midnight yet (as I start writing this), but I’m calling it in favor of us all outlasting the Mayan apocalypse.  If you didn’t get enough of the end-of-the-world conspiracy theory, then Tzolk’in:  The Mayan Calendar is here to supply you with more.  The oft talked about Mayan calendar plays into the mechanics of the game, as players carefully place their Mayan Meeples onto interlocking gears which rotate around the board, moving the pieces to different action zones.  To accomplish placement and conduct other key actions, players must spend corn, ultimately attempting to please the gods or constructing underground temples.  So, until the next apocalypse myth comes along, make mine Tzolk’in.

Is the force strong with you?

Or have you given into the dark side?

Either way, you’ve got a side to play in the new two-player Star Wars LCG card game from Fantasy Flight.  Set-up like many of their other popular LCGs (but with more X-Wings and stuff), Star Wars has players choosing sides in a head-to-head battle for galactic domination.  Players then balance objective decks (containing mission cards) and player decks (containing character and equipment cards) in order to complete their assigned tasks.  As with Magic the Gathering or most other CCG-style games, players place/play their cards into the center of the table in order to activate them.  Of course, the real question of the game will be, who shot first?

I’m going bet that many who read this have fantasized about manning a starship at one time in their life.  Be careful what you wish for, however.  Space Cadets fulfills that wish by assigning each player an important role on the bridge of a freshly minted starship.  This cooperative game for three to six players enlists a captain, helmsman, engineer, and weapons, shield, and sensor officers.  Each member of the crew has a specific  task to complete in order for the entire team to win, so make sure you staff your bridge wisely, or else it’ll be your final frontier.

Bad guys need friends, too.  Eclipse:  Rise of the Ancients is the first expansion for the epic space battle game, Eclipse, introduces tons of ancient adversaries which can assist all the baddies from the original game.  Along with these foes, the expansion also includes original rare technologies, developments, alliances, ancient homeworlds, and warp portals.  Three brand new player boards also offer four new alien races to choose from.  And with the game’s modular design, all or some of these additions can mixed in with the contents of the base game, completely at your discretion.

Point one is usually considered an unimportant amount. But not this coming Wednesday.

Marvel NOW! Point One is extremely important for those who’ve got an interest in the forthcoming Marvel NOW! refresh! This over-sized issue will contain original short stories previewing and leading into future Marvel NOW! titles, including FF, Young Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, and Cable & X-Force. That means stories by the likes of Kieron Gillen, Matt Fraction, Mike Allred, and Dennis Hopeless.

Wait, did I say Dennis Hopeless? Yes, former Pulp Fiction employee (like you didn’t already know), Dennis Hopeless. Dennis’ story is absolutely key to understanding his future Cable & X-Force series. It will show how Cable brought the, currently insane, Forge onto the team. Check the issue out for a great preview of upcoming titles. And don’t forget the Scottie Young baby variant!

Speaking of Scottie Young and babies (which seem to be utterly linked these days), A-Babies vs. X-Babies also drops this Wednesday. If you were one of the many who wished Cyclops and Captain America would stop acting like babies during Avengers vs. X-Men, this…is probably not the issue for you. However, if you love cute Marvel parody books lampooning the ridiculousness of giant crossover events, this IS the book for you. And you don’t even have to worry about a baby variant because the whole book is full’a babies!

Nathan Edmondson is one of those up-and-coming young comic writers you always hear about. He’s written great espionage series like Who is Jake Ellis?, Dancer, and Grifter, but now he’s turning his talents to Ultimate Comics Iron Man. This four issue miniseries will delve deep into the history of the Ultimate Universe’s version of the iron avenger, revealing his secrets for donning the armor in the first place. Oh, and did someone say Ultimate Mandarin? Followers of The Ultimates should give this miniseries more than a cursory glance.

It’s a known fact that everyone who reads the engrossing Morning Glories series has said, at one time or another, “I’d love to see this cover artist do interiors!” Well, that has finally happened. Mind the Gap is written by Jim McCann and, more importantly, drawn by Rodin Esquejo, the phenomenal cover artist for Morning Glories. Enough about Morning Glories, though, because Mind the Gap more than stands on its own. Not quite a murder mystery, this coma mystery centers around a sketchy cast of characters, all of which have their own motives for placing the lead character into a coma. But don’t count her out just because she’s unconscious, from her own mindscape she attempts to piece her memories together to catch the culprit. Just like Saga, Prophet, and, yes, Morning Glories before it, this first volume of Mind the Gap (the first six issues) is only $9.99! You can’t beat it!
