Race for the Galaxy Xeno InvasionBuilding an empire is a hard day’s work all on its own, but try doing it with an evil alien race attacking you!  The most recent expansion set for Race for the Galaxy challenges you to do just that.  Xeno Invasion is two games in one box, including both new start world cards that can be added to the base game to expand play options along with the Invasion Game scenario that can be incorporated to up the difficulty.Secret Santa card game

Yes, we all know Christmas was nearly a month ago, but game distributors are a little less certain.  Hence, Secret Santa, a festive card game of competitive gift giving.  Underneath all of the holiday cheer, everyone really is just giving away presents to feel that rush of approval when the receiver joyfully exclaims “This is the best present ever!  You know me so well!”  Secret Santa is all about that moment, as players compete to give away all of their present cards.  Alter the game a little by adding in Santa’s Elves, where players have to give away their gold rings and avoid being stuck with the dreaded fruitcake.

Pathfinder Battles Iconic Heroes Set 4Officially intended for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, the Iconic Heroes sets are more commonly used for the traditional Pathfinder roleplaying game.  Icon Heroes Set 4 contains miniatures for the Human Bloodrager, Half-Elf gunslinger, Dwarf Shaman, Stone Spirit Animal, Human Skald, and Half-Elf Swashbuckler.  Each one of the miniatures is fully painted and ready for use in-game.  For those who are actually using these in conjunction with the Adventure Card Game, the set also includes six exclusive cards to be incorporated into the game.Escape Zombie City

Though Escape:  Zombie City has been out on the shelves for nearly a month, we some how never mentioned it in a New Game Stuff post.  Tonight that is rectified.  A spin-off of Queen Games‘ popular Escape series, Zombie City deposits players into a zombie apocalypse and demands that they outrun the hordes of undead clamoring to eat them.  The catch?  You only have fifteen minutes to get out of town!  With everyone working together, players start a fifteen minute counter included with the Bang Duelgame, then rapidly attempt to flee the confines of the city.

Bang!, the popular, Western deception card game, puts a couple more bullets into its six-gun this weekend.  First up are two expansion decks, High Noon and The Valley of Shadows .  High Noon includes a new character card, the Judge, and a few new event cards, like Ghost Town and Gold Rush.  The Valley of Shadows is a dangerous place, full of snake and tornadoes (and possibly snake-nados), all represented by twenty-four additonal cards.  Finally, the biggest draw of the three is Bang! the Duel, a two player only version of the game.  Each player controls two different gunslingers, one in front, one in back, then uses their abilities to compete against one Fluxx Diceanother.

As if the fluctuating party card game, Fluxx, was not already a heap of shenanigans, Looney Labs has found a way to increase the randomness.  Meet Fluxx Dice.  This expansion set can be incorporated into any version of Fluxx (base, Batman, Zombie, Monty Python, etc.), as it includes five new cards and two dice that complicate card draws and win conditions even further.

Press start to play Pixel Tactics 3!Pixel Tactics 3

Another entry in the 8-bit influenced card game series, Pixel Tactics 3, like its predecessors, is entirely stand-alone!  So, if you wish, you can add it to either of the previous releases, but that is not necessary to be able to play it.  As for how the game works, players will select hero cards from a limited amount of options, construct a deck out of them, then pit them against Madame Chingtheir opponent.  Where the strategy lies is in using the right hero, in the right way, for the right situation.

The great pirate captain Madame Ching has enlisted you, a trusted captain among her pirate army, to sail out and capture the most booty, will you succeed?  Each player controls a different captain, each attempting to waylay unsuspecting ships, outrun fellow players, and acquire new skills.  Working Space Wolves Stormfang Gunship miniature 40Kyour way across the board, part of the strategy comes in choosing to push on to Hong Kong or return to Madame Ching first.

It’s all for one and one for all in the newest expansion for The Duke!

The Musketeers expansion includes tiles representative of D’Artagnon, Aramis, Porthos, and four other Musketeer characters.  As well, the expansion alters players’ starting hand as well as particular tile laying mechanics.  Alongside this expansion is the Arthurian Legends set.  As with the former set, Arthurian Legends includes tiles representative of Arthur, Merlin, Lancelot, and others, as well as rules which allows asymmetrical opposing forces.

The Pathfinder library grows by three books this weekend.

First up is The Midnight Isles from the Wrath of the Righteous adventure set.  This contains a adventure for twelfth level characters as well as four new monsters.  Second, a player companion entitled The Magical Marketplace, which includes information on shop owners, magical tattoos, as well as descriptions of alternate forms of payment.  Finally, we have the Inner Sea NPC Codex containing over sixty characters, ready-made for game master needs.

A complete revamp of the system, the Malifaux 2nd Edition Rule Manual drops today!

The steampunky miniature battle game receives an update of all its factions, stories, and characters, a perfect entry point for any new player.

Take one down and pass it around, there’s still three new Red Dragon Inns on the wall!

Along with this large expansion come two Allies expansions, including Cormac the Mighty and Witchdoctor Natyli.  Cormac is a human barbarian who gains alcohol content for being capable of striking harder.  Natyli, as a master of wizardry, can weaken other players enabling her to successfully attack from a minimal strength.

If your question is “What kind of badass comic awesomeness will Dennis Hopeless unleash on the world next?”, the answer is The Answer.  In the works for a number of years, Dark Horse Comics is finally releasing Dennis’ next miniseries which, as a series released independent of the big two comic companies, means anything goes.  The Answer, himself, is the hero of a standard metropolitan city who crosses paths with a punky librarian chick.  Together the two begin to uncover a conspiracy that sends them running for their lives.  As usual, because it’s Dennis, they do so while spouting some of the quickest, wittiest dialog on the block.  Oh, and if you’re a fan of the horror series Revival or the great web comic Battlepug, you’ll be glad to know The Answer was created in conjunction with Mike Norton.  Any more questions?

It’s a young hero’s world out there.

One of my most anticipated Marvel NOW! series launches this next Wednesday and it is Young Avengers.  Written by the too-cool-for-school Kieron Gillen (Journey in MysteryPhonogram) and drawn by X-Men: Season One‘s Jamie McKelvie, this version of Young Avengers is all about partying, music, partying, dancing, drinking, and partying.  Oh, but with superpowers.  The child version of Loki last seen in Gillen’s Journey into Mystery run has set out to improve his image and become a “good guy”, finding the best way to do this is to assemble a team of young heroes.  We’ll see how that goes.  If you loved the two official Young Avengers series of recent years, then you be happy to see many of those character popping back up in a book that continues to grow them as characters, mostly by seeing them through their stupid, irrational teenage years.  Oh, and did I mention the partying.

Countdown to Darkness may be a goofy title that elicits images of someone standing by a light switch yelling that they’ll turn it off in any moment, but the fact that Star Trek precedes it makes it noteworthy.  This new four issue miniseries from IDW is the prequel to this summer’s sequel to J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot, filling in the gaps between the last movie and the new one.  Written and overseen by Robert Orci, one of the screenwriters of the film, what happens here is the official continuity of the film universe.  For instance, you’ll see Klingons here before they appear in the film.  And if you read the previous Countdown miniseries for the last film, you’ll know that this one will enrich the story rather than  simply paddle in one place only to make money and not mess with the film.

Finally, tonight’s last shoutout is going to be a simple one, because it can be.
