Star Realms deck building gameJust when you think there’s no new way to improve or augment the standard deck building game format, one company figures out how to go boldly where no company has gone before.  Star Realms is an inexpensive deck builder whose base set is ready-to-play for two people, but scales up by twos each time you buy another one (2 copies = 4 player, 3 copies = 6 players, etc).  Designed by Magic the Gathering hall-of-famers, Star Realms has players trading materials for ships, building armadas, then pitting them against their foes!Zombicide Storage box

When stocking up for the zombie apocalypse, you’re going to need plenty of steel containers for ammo, medical supplies, and rations.  That’s why Zombicide has kindly supplied these for you.  Out this weekend are three different color storage boxes for Alien Uprising base gameyour Zombicide miniatures and game pieces.  Color options are red, blue, and green.

The last situation anyone wants to be in is crash landed on an alien planet with a bunch of untrustworthy crew members.  Alien Uprising is a new, sci-fi survival cooperative board game that drops the players onto a dangerous alien world with a defective starship.  Players roll dice to choose actions, working to either outlast the vicious bug-like lifeforms on the planet’s surface until rescue arrives or to repair the ship for launch.  Miniature expansion packs, including Crew Member, Zothren, and X-14 miniatures are also out this weekend.Dark Heresy 2nd Editon RPG HC

Fantasy Flight and Warhammer 40K‘s bleak roleplaying system, Dark Heresy, receives a major dystopic revision this weekend with the release of the second edition core rulebook.  This newly illustrated hardcover edition features a beautifully illustrated cover, the essentials for gameplay (including character creation, background fluff, and adventure paths), and a redesigned layout.

ImpulseFrom Asmadi Games and the creators of Innovation comes a space exploration game entitled Impulse.  Constructed out of cards, the game board displays random sets of action options that players will utilize by combining them with the cards in their hand.  Each card has six interlinking points that can be joined with other cards on the board in order to earn victory points and conquer this uncharted portion of the galaxy!Age of Rebellion Onslaught at Arda 1

The Force is very much with Pulp Fiction this weekend as two new supplemental hardcovers Edge of the Empire Far Horizonshave arrived for Star Wars Age of Rebellion and Edge of the Empire, respectively.  Onslaught at Arda 1 is a ninety-six page adventure supplement for the system, focusing on large-scale battles at a secret rebel base.  Far Horizons is a sourcebook for the colonist class within the Edge of the Empire system, including talents, spaceships, and gear as well as entrepreneur, performer, and marshal specializations, new to the game.

Riding onto the scene in a sled pulled by ravenous wolves, Logan Grimnar is about the most awe-inspiring Space Wolves miniatures ever!  The Champions of Fenris codex supplement adds material to Champions of Fenris HCthe previously released Space Wolves Codex, including the history of Logan Grimnar, himself, additonal rules, wargear, and formations, and two new missions.  The Logan Grimnar miniature is also out this weekend.

Golem Arcana base game setA miniature battle game across three different mediums, Golem Arcana is an entirely unique gaming experience.  Players field armies based in three separate factions, including knights, ancient ones, relics, and golems.  The twist is that each faction is represented a different way.  The relics are card based, while the golems are miniatures, and, most unusual, the knights and ancient ones are digital.  The base set includes a bluetooth tool that keeps the latter factions connected to the gaming experience.DC Deck Building Game Crisis Expansion Pack 1

Same great Zombie Dice flavor, but now with  more dinosaurs!

That’s Dino Hunt Dice, the most recent addition to Steve Jackson’s line of fun, family-friendly, easy-to-learn games.  Exactly like Zombie Dice, players roll three dice at a time in an attempt to nab as many dinosaurs as they can (unlike Zombie Dice, there are multiple types, like T-Rex, Triceratops, and more) without getting stomped three times by a giant dino foot.  If you get a leaf you’re able to reroll that die, but if three feet do appear you lose all the dinosaurs you’ve collected that round.  It’s that simple.  For two or more players, Dino Hunt Dice is a portable, easily learned dice game for the whole family.

The Force is growing stronger for the Star Wars Living Card Game with the release of the first Force Pack.  The Desolation of Hoth, like Fantasy Flight‘s other LCG expansions, contains sixty new cards for inclusion in the Star Wars LCG base game.  These cards expand the experience of the game, structuring a new adventure on the ice planet of Hoth.

If you’re tired of staring at your boring family during that holiday dinner, get Rory’s Story Cubes.  If you can’t get your brain to come up with any ideas for that novel you’ve been whittling away at, get Rory’s Story Cubes.  If your child keeps begging for a new bedtime story and you don’t have any on to tell, get Rory’s Story Cubes.  A simple solo or multi-player storytelling game, Rory’s Story Cubes are sets of nine dice, adorned with various pictures used to spur narrative forward in a group environment.  Each of the three existing sets is themed to focus on Actions, Voyages, and basic story elements.

The draft is on!

The Blood Bowl Team Manager Card Game is expanding its ranks by three in with the Sudden Death expansion set.  Each of these three new teams incorporate new abilities, like the Champions of Death who raise zombified players from underneath the field whenever the chips are down.  The Dark Sorcery Syndicate (magic, magic, magic!) and the Black Fangs (they want to suck away your victory) round out the options.  But some other Hail Mary additions have been included, too, like enchanted ball cards, contract payouts, and much, much more.  HIKE!

Always a yearly highlight for Magic the Gathering players, the newest Duel Deck has hit shelves.  Considering the pairing this time is Sorin vs. Tibalt, they are not likely to remain on shelves for much longer.  For those looking for money cards, the cost of the Duel Deck is recuperated by the Sorin, Lord of Innistrad card alone.  If you’re just looking to play with a buddy, these sets are the perfect starting point for new Magic players or anyone looking to have a quick throwdown.  Each deck, Sorin and Tibalt, are constructed to pose a threat to their opponent, leading to a fair match between players and reliable decks to learn the game off of.

What’s that clock say? Ten thirty? Yuuuup.

‘Kay, let’s get started.

Two restock items from the same company shipped in today; both are card games, both are colorfully designed.

First up, we’ve got The Big Idea. And what is The Big Idea, you may ask sniddly? Well, I’ll explain. You may be familiar with the game if you ever picked up the previous Cheapass Games version of it. Now, however, The Big Idea has been retooled as a complete party game. Players combine noun and adjective cards to create insane inventions that they then attempt to pitch to the other players. Every secretly votes on the best inventions and who ever ends up with the most approval wins the round. Add drinks and you’re good to go.

For the second I’ll need you pay close attention, ladies and gentlemen. As my lovely assitant takes the stage, please remain utterly quiet.

Yes, Illusio brings the magic, folks! A card game based around a battle of illusion, players choose which famous magician they want to control, then set out to trade off spells, slights-of-hand, and other parlor tricks in an effort to become the top trickster of the 1920′s.

Finally tonight there’s a new Dungeons and Dragons tile set on the block. This time around the setting is Cathedral of Chaos. As always, six tiles, double-sided tile sheets as well as tokens comprise this handy-dandy little supplemental pack.

May the flash be with you.

Not the creepy flip open the trenchcoat kind, but the flashlight kind.  More specifically, the Star Wars kind.

Yup, we’ve had sonic screwdrivers and phasers, now we will have Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader flashlight lightsabers.  Molded to match the handles of Luke and Vader’s lightsabers, these bad boys fire out a beam of light matching their respected blade color.  If you’re going to be searching in the dark, this is the way to do it.

Are you a fan of alternate realities?  I personally like ones were two sides are at war in a post-apocalyptic setting where death is ever present.  They’re always just so jaunty!  Speaking of, here’s the new Age of X hardcover.  Taking a page from the book of Age of Apocalypse, this alternate reality epic takes place in a world where the X-Men have cordoned themselves off in a Road Warrior-like fortress as humanity sends barrages of soldiers against them.  Costumes are redesigned, powers are used for destructive purposes, and relationships are all reshuffled.  Alternate reality stories are always exciting because anything can happen!

Mmmmmm, hold it together, me.  Okay, this next one has me….OOOOOOOOHHHHHHYEEEESSSSSS!!!!  AVATAR IS AMAZING!!!

Pfff, okay, I’m calm now.  So, Dark Horse has acquired the rights to Avatar, the Last Airbender, right.  And they’ve decided to reprint all of the previously released, but hard to find Avatar comic material that has been published in various places.  This softcover, Avatar, the Last Airbender:  The Lost Adventures, is that collection.  Almost as thick as an air bison, this trade paperback contains 26 stories, some pulled from Nickelodeon Magazine others from the DVD sets while others are brand spanking new.  Best part is, this is leading into a new Avatar ongoing series that will be arriving later this year!

You want to show your love for the new Green Lantern movie, but you don’t know how.  It’s quite a conundrum.  But no worries, a new t-shirt is here to make all your fanboy woes vanish.  The Green Lantern Movie Oath shirt is a creative spin on the classic Lantern symbol emblazoned on the chest.  Instead of the traditional white or green, this shirt has the symbol made out of the Green Lantern oath.  In brightest day and all that.  So, show your love and affection for space cops and pointy mustaches by slapping this sharp shirt on yo’ body.
