Antike Duellum sends two players back in time for an epic head-to-head battle!

Taking the rules of the original Antike board game, Antike Duellum modifiers the mechanics for a two player war game of ancient Rome.  Coming with two separate scenarios (Rome vs. Carthage and Persia vs. Greece), the base game lasts between sixty to ninety minutes.  Play your cards right, literally, as carefully playing event cards (25 of which are brand new for this version of the game) changes the pace of the game and entirely decides the outcome.  With an easy to learn rule system, you’ll never be saying, “It’s all Greek to me.”

Uggh errgg mrrgg grrrgg.

That would be caveman for Cavemen, the Quest for Fire.  This simple little Rio Grande card game has two to five players taking on the role of a prehistoric hunter who’s mission is to kill dinosaurs and gain influence in the tribe.  To do this, players draft cards into a common card pool which decides the possible actions for that turn.  If you hold the special conch token, however, you get to choose your action first and take an extra action at the end of everyone else’s turn.  So, I say againg, uggh errgg mrrgg grrrgg.

The popular miniature adventure game Mage Knight gains a new expansion in The Lost Legion.  If you are brave enough to overcome the deadly obstacles in the way of purchasing this expansion (which, basically, is to just have the money to buy it) then you too can acquire all its riches.  Within the box is an entirely new Mage Knight (Wolfhawk), spells, artifacts, skills, locations, scenarios, enemies, and friends.  As usual, each piece and accessory is detailed and designed to the high standards of WizKids.

For the second time tonight dinosaurs have to be mentioned.

Yes, it’s a good night.

In the lost city of Uchronia dinosaurs never died out.  Now players take turns placing and drawing resource cards  in order to build up the ancient city, using their prehistoric lizard pals to assist them.  Building cards are drawn from the center of the table and used by players to continue constructing their palaces and become the patriarch of the city.

If you’re one of those aggressive Cthulhu Dice players who actually goes crazy when they lose sanity in the game, your buddies may not want to play the new Cthulhu Dice Metäl version with you as you could take their eye out by tossing across the room. ‘Cause, yeah, it’s solid metal. Same great game, just heavy and bad-umlaut A-ss enough to be called Metäl.

Gabe and Tycho have taken over Steve Jackson’s headquarters and are printing mass quantities of Penny Arcade Munchkin boosters. As with the previous Munchkin booster pack releases, this card pack contains fifteen set cards, all of which feature artwork from Mike Krahulik and an be incorporated into any version of Munchkin you own. So, next time you play Munchkin, bring the flamethrower to the table for some slayage!

Made popular by Will Wheaton and his Tabletop YouTube show, Tsuro has released a new version. Tsuro of the Sea is not only a saltier version of the first game, it’s gained daikaiju tiles, or sea monster tiles, which crawl around the board based on dice rolls and remove any ship, wake tile, or other sea monster tile that they hit. Otherwise, the game progresses as usual with players laying tiles down to attempt keep their ship from falling off the board. As the game can sustain 2-8 players and only lasts for up to 40 minutes, Tsuro of the Sea is a perfect family game that anyone can learn quickly and play just as fast.

And finally, the final event tonight is the two new Return to Ravnica Event Decks. This time around the decks are mono-colored red and green decks. Wrack and Rage, the red deck, contains a Mizzium Mortars, Stromkirk Noble, and a Dragonskull Summit to beef out the build. The second deck, Creep and Conquer, is the big baddie with a Thragtusk, four Vampire Knighthawks, a Woodland Cemetery, and more, totaling up to $40 worth of cards. As usual, these are competitive tournament decks, so grab a copy and come play in tonight’s Game Day event.

Dennis Hopeless (local KC writer & former Pulp employee) has two, count ‘em two, new Marvel ongoing series launching December 12th!

To show Dennis the support he deserves, we at Pulp are trying to raise the Avengers Arena pull file list to 100 people, so, please, add your name to the list if you want to get a copy. Feel free to add to Dennis’ other ongoing series, Cable and X-Force, too. Both books look extraordinary and will be great jumping on points for any reader.

Avengers Arena is Hunger Games meet’s Battle Royale meets Marvel. Former X-Men villain Arcade has trapped a bunch of X-Kids, Avengers Academy students, and Runaways on an island, making them fight for their lives to escape. Only one can survive.

Cable and X-Force is a heist road movie, starring the X-Univere’s baddest mutants. That’s Cable, Forge, Domino, Colossus, and Dr. Nemesis, if you didn’t know. Gritty action and smooth dialog will fuel this series.

Dun dun dundundun, dunna na na nana na na na NA!

Say it with me!

I am Iron Man!

If you’ve rocked out to the Black Sabbath tune, devoured the Robert Downey, Jr. films, and/or been reading about the alcoholic, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist for years, then you will want to snag these first time items quicker than a repulsor ray can blow away the Hulk.

First up, the Iron Man Neon Sign. Matching the Captain America Neon Sign from earlier this year, this one comes complete with a dual-purpose stand which can be used as an up right base or a wall mount. Also, as the preverbial cherry on top, the sign comes with a special edition Iron Man comic. And, yes, we are open to doing layaway.

Second, the fantastic looking Avengers Iron Man Statue from Kotobukiya. Pulling the design directly from the box office behemoth that was The Avengers, this glossy, detailed statue will decimate all other Iron Man memorabilia you have in your house through sheer awesomeness. Which means you may want to pick up the neon sign after you’ve already got the statue home and behind plate glass.

And since we’re in a statuey mood, let’s all just admire this fantastic new Black Widow Covert Ops variant statue from Bishoujo for a moment, yes?

….

….

Okay. Done.

Unlike the original version of the statue, this edition features Natasha in an alternate grey suit and wielding a stealthy knife instead of a massive sniper rifle. And, as you can tell, those are just the first of the statues, *cough*, ample features.

Before Avengers vs. X-Men there was Fear Itself. Marvel‘s previous universe spanning event incorporated both Iron Man and Black Widow as well as practically every other prominent hero to face off against a ransacking bunch of ancient Norse gods. Each of these gods manifested themselves within hammers, similar to our boy Thor‘s, which, when wielded, would infect the carrier with the god’s being. And who picked these hammers up, you might ask? Oh, just lightweights like The Thing, Hulk, and Juggernaut. So, as you might imagine, much world-shaking fisticuffs ensued. Written by former local boy, Matt Fraction, Fear Itself is an excellent jump-on point for curious Marvel readers, as well as an all around epic tale.

With epic in mind, there’s no other book coming out currently that’s better suited to the word than Prophet. Written (and occasionally illustrated) by Brandon Graham (King City), this reworking of Rob Liefeld’s original character is simply the strangest, most beautiful, unusual, brilliant comic you will read in many years. Set thousands of decades into the future, Prophet takes place all across the galaxy, following John Prophet, the last human, as he treks across Earth and other planets in search of his mission’s end. Graham has accomplished world-building on scale with Star Wars and Avatar with this book, filling his pages with dense wildlife, cultures, and equipment beyond general human imagination. Bridging sci-fi space adventure with Manga sensibilities, Prophet is a unique comic experience you won’t soon forget.

Hold onto your fez!

It’s had to travel through all of time and space to get here, but the second edition of the Doctor Who roleplaying game from Cubicle Seven has arrived. As opposed to the previous 10th Doctor version, all the materials for this edition feature the 11th Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory, and the rest of the season 5-6 cast. And what are these timey-wimey materials, you ask? That’d be a player’s guide, GM’s guide, adventure book, character sheets, tokens, pre-generated characters from the show, and dice. With all that space junk you can assemble whatever time traveling adventuring your mind can imagine. Whether that’s fighting Weeping Angels, running from Daleks, or showing River Song around the cosmos, you can do so as The Doctor, Amy, Rory, or characters of your own design. Geronimo!!!

Fall in, soldiers!

D-Day Dice is enlisting you to action! A cooperative dice game, D-Day Dice has players building their troops over the course of action. Beginning with a limited number of men, everyone works together, rolling dice, to grow their infantry and resources for battle. Succeed or die trying.

Bummed by the fact that you already on the previous version of Descent now that Fantasy Flight has released a shiny new version? Well, don’t be. Alongside the Descent second edition game, there is also the Descent Conversion Kit. Providing all the necessary materials, this kit allows players to adapt their old game and characters to the new system. Inside the box are hero sheets for every character introduced in the previous game, its expansions, and DungeonQuest, along with fifty monster cards representing the creatures from these previous games. Now the only thing to be bummed about is when a hoard of orcs is storming toward you.

Now fans can experience Wonderland in a way no one has ever experienced before as the Zenoscope comic book from Joe Brusha, Ralph Tedesco, and Raven Gregory comes to life in this exciting, strategy filled game. Experience a vibrant, twisted world, full of surprises!

The board game Wonderland features two separate realms: Earth and Wonderland. The realms are artfully depicted on the double-sided board and switching between them adds a unique twist and an added level of complexity to the game that few other board games offer. Players compete against each other, each player trying to complete specific goals while the other players try to foil their attempts at progressing.

Yarrr, me ratties.

Straight from Germany comes Sewer Pirats, a treasure hunting game where players take on the roles a crew of scallywags comprised of rodents and vermin. Based on how players organize their crew members on board their ships, treasure is collect efficiently or inefficiently. The player with the most booty at the end, wins!

Finally, in preparation for tomorrow night’s 2013 Game Day event (the M13 standard tournament) come the new batch of Event Decks. This time around, they color combos are green/white and red/blue coming with cards like Razorverge Thicket, Green Sun’s Zenith, Thragtusk, Sulfur Falls, and Darkslick Shores.
