Yes, we all know Christmas was nearly a month ago, but game distributors are a little less certain.  Hence, Secret Santa, a festive card game of competitive gift giving.  Underneath all of the holiday cheer, everyone really is just giving away presents to feel that rush of approval when the receiver joyfully exclaims “This is the best present ever!  You know me so well!”  Secret Santa is all about that moment, as players compete to give away all of their present cards.  Alter the game a little by adding in Santa’s Elves, where players have to give away their gold rings and avoid being stuck with the dreaded fruitcake.

Pathfinder Battles Iconic Heroes Set 4Officially intended for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, the Iconic Heroes sets are more commonly used for the traditional Pathfinder roleplaying game.  Icon Heroes Set 4 contains miniatures for the Human Bloodrager, Half-Elf gunslinger, Dwarf Shaman, Stone Spirit Animal, Human Skald, and Half-Elf Swashbuckler.  Each one of the miniatures is fully painted and ready for use in-game.  For those who are actually using these in conjunction with the Adventure Card Game, the set also includes six exclusive cards to be incorporated into the game.Escape Zombie City

Though Escape:  Zombie City has been out on the shelves for nearly a month, we some how never mentioned it in a New Game Stuff post.  Tonight that is rectified.  A spin-off of Queen Games‘ popular Escape series, Zombie City deposits players into a zombie apocalypse and demands that they outrun the hordes of undead clamoring to eat them.  The catch?  You only have fifteen minutes to get out of town!  With everyone working together, players start a fifteen minute counter included with the Bang Duelgame, then rapidly attempt to flee the confines of the city.

Bang!, the popular, Western deception card game, puts a couple more bullets into its six-gun this weekend.  First up are two expansion decks, High Noon and The Valley of Shadows .  High Noon includes a new character card, the Judge, and a few new event cards, like Ghost Town and Gold Rush.  The Valley of Shadows is a dangerous place, full of snake and tornadoes (and possibly snake-nados), all represented by twenty-four additonal cards.  Finally, the biggest draw of the three is Bang! the Duel, a two player only version of the game.  Each player controls two different gunslingers, one in front, one in back, then uses their abilities to compete against one Fluxx Diceanother.

As if the fluctuating party card game, Fluxx, was not already a heap of shenanigans, Looney Labs has found a way to increase the randomness.  Meet Fluxx Dice.  This expansion set can be incorporated into any version of Fluxx (base, Batman, Zombie, Monty Python, etc.), as it includes five new cards and two dice that complicate card draws and win conditions even further.

Batman has been in some tough situations throughout his existence, but, as everyone knows, he always manages to get out of them.  Now it’s your turn to try and create an inescapable trap for the caped crusader in Arkham City: Escape.  An epic two-player game that pits The Dark Knight against his greatest foes (all in the Arkham City game design) inside the titular prison city.  What makes the game interesting is that each assortment of villains is chosen randomly, making every game a new experience.  One player tries to kill the Batman while the other tries to punch baddies in the teeth.

In the fourth-quel to the ever more popular Quarriors! dice game series, Quartifacts, a new set of dice known as Quest Dice.  In this expansion, all the mystical relics of the previous Quarriors! games have disappeared, leaving you, the questor, to venture after them.  Quest cards will allow you to unleash your creatures in order to find them.  In addition, five new creatures, two new spells, The Squire basic, and six Quest cards and dice are also included.  Quet quor Quarriors! quon!

A resource management game with a new spin, Saint Malo blends dice games, resource management, and…drawing?  Players roll dice to decide what villagers, buildings, and so forth that they are allotted, then draw them onto the erasable grid board in front of  them.  But be quick about how you arrange your resources because they’re going to need to protect you from the pirates that are invading the city.

The Conquest of Planet Earth continues.  But now it’s the Apocalypse.

The first expansion to the original Flying Frog Productions game that pits Earth against a horde of invading martians kicks the total number of players up to six.  This increase of playablity comes in addition to an entirely new alien faction, including new miniatures like The Cube!  As much of this expansion’s action takes place over the ocean, a Coastal Resistance Deck is included to boost Earth’s defenses.  The invasion has begun, fight to stop the conquest!

Begin the snapping because it’s about to get all West Side Story up in here!

But you can throw technicolor and musical numbers out the window, because this gang warfare is in the dystopian city of Gatorum.  Two to four players take on the role of futuristic gang leaders attempting to overrun the city in a power play.  Hire up local toughs, collect some heavy artillery, and build up your home turf.  But beware because your rivals will be ready and waiting to nab anything you do build up.  City of Remnants is basically Agricola or Kingsburg but filthier.

Throw dem bones!

You’ve made it to the surface, you’ve found a raft, you’ve got a broken sword to defend yourself with, but can you Escape from Atlantis?  Survive:  Escape from Atlantis receives a expansion reprinting and a new release this week in the form of The Giant Squid and Dolphins and Dive Dice.  The Giant Squad has been in print before, but it is no less vicious.  Guard your boat carefully, because the five giant squid tokens included within are always ready to attack.  Luckily, if you get the Dolphins and Dive Dice the friendly creatures kept within will help you back to your boat if you fall out.  However, the Dive Dice give a new benefit to the monsters surrounding Atlantis, that of diving below the surface.

Just like in an Indiana Jones movie, just when you think you’re out of the tomb, the floor collapses and you fall into bed of snakes.

Such is the concept behind the new expansion pieces for Escape.  If you haven’t heard of this popular Queen Game, it’s a real-time adventurer where every player goes at the same time, attempting to collect as many the tomb’s hidden gems as they can before the clock runs out.  Hitting stores after being given out as Kickstarter incentives, The Pit and Doomed are the first expansion pieces for the game.  Both provide new tiles which represent additional deadly rooms in the temple.  The Pit traps players down a deep hole after they’ve rolled five curses.  Doomed provides two new curses and one new tile, all with exciting properties.

The only option is Zombicide.

A co-operative survival game, Zombicide is a catch-22 run amok as players must kill more zombies to earn skill points, but killing zombies only results in more zombies.  The other tricky thing is that there will inevitably be more undead than you have bullets, so you’re really going to want to earn up those skill points to buy more ammo and weapons.  This popular Kickstarter joins and outpaces many of the other zombie games out there.  So, lock and load, folks.

All is fair in love and war.  AEG‘s Love Letter is a reality dating show dropped into the Renascence.  A group of eligible bachelors compete for the hand of a stunning princess who’s locked herself in the castle’s highest tower.  The only way you can lay your flirtatious mojo on her is through alluring prose delivered via letter.  Of course, all the other prospective suitors had the same idea, so you will have to find ways of intercepting and destroying their letters.  But don’t focus all your attention on the other players as your letters can be turned to ash just as quickly.  Start working on those pick-up lines, gentlemen.

The Tome of Blood is at your disposal, Lord Khorne.

The most recent hardcover edition to the Black Crusade line of Warhammer 40K RPG books details every tool you’ll need to praise the Blood God!  That includes four new Heretic archetypes, plus all the weapons, armaments, and Daemon Engines to empower them.  As another added bonus of pain and suffering, players of any alignment can develop Legacy Weapons and fight in Mass Combats.  Along with all this carnage comes new settings like the pits of Kurse, Furia’s savage oceans, Berin and Aspodel, as well as the War Moons of Talax.  Pile up those skulls, cause Khorne needs a seat.

Wallenstein is nothing like Frankenstein.  Word to the wise.

It is however very much like a good game.  This second edition of the game receives a rules touch up as well as the addition of two expansions for the game.  As players compete for points by controlling the largest amount of land and real estate, two years pass (don’t worry, in game time only) wherein shortages of food, peasant revolts, and any number of other hardships will beset your kingdom.  An interesting randomizing element is used to decide when and where these obstacles hit, that being a tower which you roll tokens down, some of which catch, some of which drop to the bottom.  These tokens then decide what happens where.  Players also carefully stratagize about how to use the action cards given them in order to obtain the most property.

Competing with Marvel’s Legacy Deck-Building Game, the new DC Deck Building Game lets players control one of seven famous DC characters.  That means you can be Batman.  Or Wonder Woman.  Or Green Lantern.  Each hero controls a special ability unique to them, giving them advantages toward certain card types.  Those other types include superpowers, heroes, villains, equipment, and locations.  During the game, each player vies cards which will assist their deck against the powers of the villains you all are fighting.  For instance, you might want to be bulletproof if you’re going up against Deathstroke.  Or have super speed if you need to race a bomb out into the ocean.  Basically, you get to play the comics you love.  Yeah, I’m picking up a copy, too.
