String SafariThe String Railway has reached its final stop, and that is the zoo.  From the makers of String Railway comes String Safari, a quick, easy-to-learn family game for three to five players.  In the game, players will attempt to corral wayward zoo animals that have gotten loose.  To do this, players will strategically weave plastic strings around card representing the animals.  Each animal also has a specific value that will result in victory points.Star Wars Age of Rebellion Strongholds of Resistance

Fight back against the oppression of the Galactic Empire with Strongholds of the Resistance.  This sourcebook expansion for Age of Rebellion includes profiles for the major worlds and hidden bases that conceal agents of the Rebellion, three new species options, new weapons, equipment, and vehicles, as well as four modular encounters that include these new supplements.

MottainaiIn Mottainai, each player is a worker in a Buddhist temple, creating works to display and sell to the visitors and tourists who come by.  These works are made of materials of varying value (determining both the difficulty to complete the work and its worth to you).  Completed works can be displayed in your gallery to train your helpers, or in your gift shop to allow you to make sales.  Running off of the Glory to Rome system, Mottainai is a cheap, easy card game for two to three players.Imperial Settlers Atlanteans

The first expansion for Imperial Settlers is out this weekend.  Imperial Settlers:  The Atlanteans gains players access to a brand new faction with its own goals and method of development.  Also included are cards to expand the base game factions, as well as the Magic the Gathering Commander Seize Controlcommon deck with new traits and card types compatible with the Atlanteans.

Expanding the already popular Commander/EDH format for Magic the Gathering, Wizards of the Coast have released five new pre-build Commander Decks for this year.  As with previous releases, each deck represents one of the five mana colors and includes a completely new Commander card.  Outside of using these commanders in that format, players may also incorporate them into their Legacy, Vintage, or casual decks.Kittens in a Blender

Long out of print, Kittens in a Blender is finally back!  Yes, the kittens are cute.  Yes, there is a blender they may fall into.  And, yes, blending could occur.  Make sure that doesn’t happen by competing against your opponents to save your kittens and turn the blender to high speed when their kitties are in it.  Better yet, Kittens in a Blender receives an expansion with its reprinted Fire and Axe A Viking Sagaversion called More Kittens in a Blender (duh!).

The swarthy viking lifestyle is realized in IDW GamesFire and Axe:  A Viking Saga.  In the game, you will vie for glory across a series of epic sagas (i.e. missions).  Each saga is a different journey to raid, trade, and settle territories.  Will you choose the path of diplomacy and trade for victory?  Or will your longship cast a bloody wake?  Start your journey by gathering crew and goods to outfit your boat.  After you launch from bustling ports into the open sea, you must choose your path to power.Poseidon's Kingdom

An inventive family gaming experience, Poseidon’s Kingdom is set under the sea and has players controlling various underwater creatures on a mission to rescue their friends from the evil Kraken.  The dice rolling element of the game is where the inventiveness comes in.  Instead of simply rolling dice, the game implements a “wave” dice tower that literally rolls along the game board, depositing dice as it goes.  The Pirates of the 7 Seasplacement and numerical values determine elements in the game.

Another inventive dice rolling game for the whole family, Pirates of the 7 Seas (also from IDW Games) uses dice to represent pirate ships.  Players roll the dice directly into the lid of the tin box the game comes in.  Where they land and what ships are showing determines whether each player controls vagabond scallywags or government sympathizers.  You’ll then sail around the game board, collecting treasure and consulting with shamans to curse other players.Ghostbusters the Board Game

Mass hysteria, dogs and cats living together!  All because Cryptozoic‘s successfully Kickstarted Ghostbusters Board Game has finally hit shelves.  Similar to Last Night on Earth, players will cooperatively control one to four of the iconic Ghostbusters attempting to catch ghosts and seal spectral gates.  The game is modular, allowing players to build the game board to their liking.  As well, all the 7 Wonders Duelcharacters and ghosts are represented by detailed miniatures.  And, yes, their is a Stay-Puft Marshmellow Man.

Even though original 7 Wonders can be played with two players, that mode is more of a learning tool than an actual competitive experience.  7 Wonders Duel, on the other hand, is an exclusively head-to-head, two player variation of the game.  The same drafting mechanics are in play, but altered to suit fewer players.  As well, an original military system has been implemented that incorporates a sliding battle board.  Whether your a fan of 7 Wonders or a couple who needs a new two player game, 7 Wonders Duel is for you.

EvolutionIt’s survival of the fittest in North Star GamesEvolution.

During the set-up phase, players draw random cards that will decide what sort of creature they will play.  Each turn sequence involves phases where food resources are laid out then devoured.  Those players who did not receive any food go extinct.  Players can choose to control carnivores or herbivores, however, so some players may end up being food themselves.Bang Heroes of the Storm

Steve Jackson‘s classic car versus car game has been reprinted this weekend in a new, updated version.  Car Wars basically allows players to live out the Road Warrior or Death Race 2000 by constructing their own dystopic roadsters and beating the crap out of each other.  Two to eight players construct their cars from the components included in the game, then battle for thirty minutes to decide the victor!Knightmare Chess

Steve Jackson‘s second rerelease this weekend is the updated version of Knightmare Chess.  Essentially, a variation of chess played with cards, Knightmare Chess does require a foreknowledge of chess to play.  However, those familiar with chess will love how the game is changed-up with the inclusion of cards.  During, after, or before turns players are allowed to Castles of the Mad King Ludwigplay cards from the set, with some drastically altering the move capabilities of pieces.

The Castles of Mad King Ludwig are renowned for their extravagance and grandeur, and now you have to surpass them all.  In Castles of Mad King Ludwig, players attempt to construct the most elaborate castle possible one room (one tile) at a time.  A single player takes the role of the Master Builder, who gets to decide the cost of each room tile, while the other players attempt to purchase the best option.  However, the Master Builder can only use the leftover tiles.  Walled City Londonderry and Borderlands

Walled City:  Londonerry and Borderlands finds players building a city from the ground up.  Divided into two separate rounds of gameplay, Walled City begins with a round of laying streets tiles, which separate the game board into sections.  Players then populate the sections with citizens.  During round two, walls are constructed and guarded by watchmen meeples.  Whoever has the most populated section reigns victorious.  And for more replay value, the game includes two Koryo card gameentirely different maps.

Set in a steampunk universe, Koryŏ, from Asmodee Games, is an easy to learn and expedient card game for two to four players.  Lasting only eight turns, has players laying down cards each turn, but only from a particular political family.  Each family is comprised of a certain number of cards, which can be utilized for powerful abilities and victory points.

The Doctor Who Roleplaying Game has regenerated again!Sixth Doctor Sourcebook Doctor Who

The Walking Dead has pervaded nearly ever aspect of culture since it first showed up on AMC, and so it’s about dang time it received that final test of pop culture-dom:  a Risk game.  If you haven’t played Risk you’re obviously an alien, so it’s pretty easy to imagine how this version is an appropriation of Walking Dead‘s characters and locations by the regional warfare of Risk.

One of the best family games ever created, Carcassonne, receives two new additions this weekend.  First up, another version of the base game, set, however, during a harsh winter instead of the lush spring.  This Carcassonne Winter Edition also includes the Gingerbread expansion.  Along with this is another collection of previously released expansions, including the Count, King, and Robber.
