Doctor Strange The Last Days of MagicDoctor Strange:  The Last Days of Magic #1

-Spins out of the events occurring in the main Doctor Strange series!

-Led by Jason Aaron, this anthology one shot features a variety of writers and artists telling tales about the upending of magic in the Marvel Universe.

-In addition to a story about Wong sacrificing for his friend’s survival, there will also be tales about Brother Voodoo and a completely new Marvel character!

-If you’ve been reading the main Doctor Stranger series, this one shot is a must!

Aliens:  Defiance #1Aliens Defiance

-Only a few years away from the continuation of the Aliens universe films, Dark Horse is preparing with a new ongoing series.

-Popular writer, Brian Wood (Black Road, X-Men, Moon Knight), tries his hand at the property.

-Wood will be returning to the claustrophobic horror of the original Alien with the series, but blending in elements of mystery.

-Zula Hendricks, a member of the Ultra Marines, is accompanying a freighter of androids and other materials across the stars when she’s sent on a journey to discover the source of a wayward Xenomorph on her ship.

The Fourth PlanetThe Fourth Planet #1

-Okay, we’re going to be honest.  We ordered this series without any knowledge of the creators or plot, it simply looked like a great read.

-Help us out and the creators out by giving this new, exciting, indy comic a try.

-When a group of refugees crash their stolen warship into a planet entrenched in their own battle, they must take sides or be destroyed.

-From all accounts, fans of classic Sci-Fi, like Warlords of Mars or War of the Worlds, as well as those of current series like Descender, East of West, and Prophet, should give The Fourth Planet a look.

4 Kids Walk Into a Bank #14 Kids Walk Into a Bank

-After making his name on the Black Mask series We Can Never Go Home, Matthew Rosenberg has become a must-read writer in the industry.

-4 Kids Walk Into a Bank is his follow-up series to We Can Never Go Home, promising many of the same pleasures.

-A master of snappy, youthful dialog, Rosenberg has built this series around a close-knit group of tweens getting up to some very bad business.

-While playing in their weekly D&D game, the stars of the series find out that one of their group’s fathers is being asked to pull a bank robbery.  Problem is, those asking are destined to screw it up and get him thrown in jail.  Thus, the group has no other option than to pull the heist themselves.

The GoddamnedThe Goddamned #1

-Personally vouched for by Dennis Hopeless as the best script he’s ever read from Jason Aaron.

-Local creator Jason Aaron (Thor, Dr. Strange, Star Wars, Southern Bastards) reteams with R.M. Guera, his artist from Scalped!

-Set nearly 2000 years after the Garden of Eden, The Goddamned takes place on a wild, chaotic, barbaric Earth.  Prior to the flood, humanity is vicious and violent.

-Pitched as Conan meets the Bible.

Limbo #1 (of 6)Limbo

-Take a chance on two creators new to Image Comics!

-Drenched in eighties nostalgia and neon!

-Essentially a detective narrative, Limbo is set in a fictional city that is suffocating the lead character (a P.I. with no memory or name) as he attempts to locate the femme fatale.

-Supernatural elements, like voodoo, collide with crime fiction.

All New All Different AvengersAll New All Different Marvel November Part 1

-There’s so many books coming out from Marvel this week, we had to break them up into two sections!

-Mark Waid’s flagship Avengers series, All New All Different Avengers finally begins!  A completely new team of young heroes, including Ms. Marvel, Nova, and Thor, are unleashed against the Marvel Universe‘s problems.

-All New Hawkeye may have the same creative team, but its cast receives a major shake-up!  Old Clint Barton from the Old Man Logan world teams up with a mature Kate Bishop to right wrongs.

All New All Different Marvel Week OneDoctor Strange

-Invincible Iron Man #1 spearheads the relaunch of the Marvel Universe, featuring a fresh take on Tony as he remodels his suit and his life.  We’ve already read the issue, and loved the poppy dialog and swift pacing of the art!

-Spinning out of the online game, Contest of Champions is an ongoing series that sees deceased and lost Marvel heroes fighting to return to the land of the living on an alternate world called Battlerealm, ruled over by Maestro Hulk!

-Dan Slott returns to Amazing Spider-Man, but presents a new spin on Peter Parker that edges closer to James Bond than the frazzled nerd of Spider-Mans past.

-If you pick up one new Marvel series next week, make it Doctor Strange!  Written by KC local, Jason Aaron (Scalped, Star Wars, Thor, Weirdworld, Southern Bastards), Doctor Strange #1 sees Stephen Strange coming to a harsh realization that magic has an equal and opposite cost.  In effect, casting spells becomes a rare, dangerous occurrence that must be weighed carefully.  Oh, and the use of a battleaxe becomes way more prevalent!

Anything Finn can do, Fionna can do better.  And in knee socks.

The highly successful Adventure Time comic series gains another tie-in miniseries this Wednesday!  Written by co-creator and storyboard artist from the television show, Natasha Allegri, Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake brings the girl power!  Spinning out of a stand-alone episode where the regular protagonists, Finn and Jake, where gender bent into women, this miniseries gives them the spotlight for six whole issues!  As the previous Adventure Time series have sold out as fast as the Ice Queen sliding down a snowy slope, if you want a copy be sure to put your name on the pull before Wednesday or be at the store early!

Vampires have been the new hotness for quite some time now, but they’ve never been Marvel NOW!  Uh, until now.

With this week’s Morbius, the Living Vampire #1, another of Spidey‘s villains gets an empathetic make over.  After breaking out of The Raft prison in Spider-Man #699.1, Michael Morbius is attempting to find his inner good guy and satisfy his natural hunger.  Written by Joe Keatinge, up-and-coming author of Hell Yeah and Glory for Image Comic, the first issue showcases his unique blend of stylistic indy paneling and catchy, quick dialog as well as moody horror.  As is often the case, C-list characters commonly make for the best reads at the big two comic companies (for evidence, see Swamp Thing and Hawkeye), given that the writers have a leeway to put the characters through their paces in ways that the A-list characters can’t be.  Trust me, it won’t suck.  Except, you know, in the ways that a vampire book should.

The other Marvel NOW! release for this next week is Johnathon Hickman’s Avengers companion book, New Avengers #1. Like FF to Fantastic Four, this series will share characters with the main title, as well as some plot elements, making them a shared story, of sorts.  And if you’ve read Hickman’s first issue of Avengers or any of his Manhattan Projects series, you know he’s capable of giant sci-fi craziness and incredible plot twists, both qualities which he will bring to characters of New Avengers.  Starring The Illuminati, the secretive, behind-the-scenes puppet masters of the Marvel Universe, the series will feature Black Panther, Iron Man, Reed Richards, Namor, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, and Beast desperately struggling to halt the collision of two universes.  And fans of the New Universe concept of yesteryear should take note, as it’s rumored to return in this book.

Thanks to a little timey-wimey, wibbly-wobbly stuff, the third series of Doctor Who Character Builder Miniatures materializes in the store this Wednesday!  Yes, we know series two hasn’t arrived yet, but, you know, time travel.  Anyway, it really doesn’t matter as each set features different characters or key characters in unique costumes.  Set three includes the Doctor in his fancy green longcoat (circa season five), Amy with Silence marks on her face, an alternate universe Rory, River Song, an Ood, and many more (check them all out to the right).  Each figure is compatible with Lego’s, if you wish to build your own Doctor Who adventure set, or feel free to pick up one of Doctor Who Character Builder playsets currently at the store.
