Dixit MemoriesThere are plenty Apples to Apples clones on the shelves, but few that are as gorgeously illustrated as Dixit.  Each card in the game features a meticulously drawn, dreamlike illustration.  Dixit Memories is the newest expansion for the popular party game, featuring eighty-four additional cards to be mixed in with your Dixit base game.Netrunner Data and Destiny

Hotly awaited by avid Android Netrunner players, Data and Destiny is the newest oversized expansion pack to be released.  A deck-based, head-to-head card game set in a cyberpunk future, Netrunner is one of Fantasy Flight‘s most popular Living Card Games.  The Data and Destiny expansion provides over 160 additional cards for both the Runner and Corporation factions.  This expansion also introduces three entirely new Secrets Castles of Mad King LudwigRunner factions!

Castles of Mad King Ludwig is a tile laying game where each player is trying to build the perfect castle, subject to the whims of the King.  The Secrets expansion, out this weekend, provides more building opportunities, additional options for strategy, and a dash of intrigue to every decision in the game.  Among these latter additions are moats, swans to be collected, and mazes.Meow

You thought Asmadi Games could not out cute themselves after releasing Adorable Pandaring, but they may have with Meow.  A simple deception game, similar to Ultimate Werewolf or Bang!, Meow has players draw cards that say “Meow” or “Not Meow.”  On each turn, players will look at their cards and making a meow sound.  Other players can call them out as being “Not Meow,” upon which the player must reveal their cards.  If the accuser Elfenroadswas correct, that player is out.  If the accuser was wrong, they are out.

Reprinting the long defunct fantasy game, Elfenland, Elfenroads simultaneously expands and updates the original.  Included in the hefty box is a double-sided game board, each used in an entirely different version of the game.  In each version, players take on the role of a teenage elf that must pass through a maturation rite by traveling across the land, stopping at as many landmarks as you can.  To do so, you will ride various modes of transport, including wagons, dragons, and unicorns, attempting to get to the end of the journey faster than anyone else.Fury of Dracula reprint

Long out of print, Fury of Dracula has been revived by Games Workshop and Fantasy Flight.  Featuring updated miniatures, artwork, and game mechanics, Fury of Dracula recaptures the hunt for the famous vampire lord from the original.  In Fury of Dracula, up to four players take on the roles of the Van Helsing family and one player takes on the role of Dracula.  The Van Helsing’s must use clues and evidence left by Dracula to hunt him across the board in an effort to eventually capture him.  Dracula, however, may strike back at them, The Red Dragon Inn 5 The Character Trovetaking them out of the game.

There’s been a lot of rounds in the popular drinking game, Red Dragon Inn.  Realizing this, Slugfest Games has released The Red Dragon Inn 5:  The Character Trove, which, in addition to including four new characters, is also a gigantic box that can hold every single expansion for the game.  As well, the box includes storage bags, player mats, and money tokens.  Immediately giving you something to store in said box, Red Dragon Inn also receives three new characters expansions this weekend, sporting the sub-heading of Allies.  Each character is able to call upon a familiar to aid them in the game.Castle Dice

Castle Dice is a unique one to four player game that centers around the custom resource dice.  Each player takes on the role of a prince or princess who has been sent to construct a castle.  During a game, you will roll a lot of dice, but due to the dice drafting mechanic, what you roll isn’t nearly as important as how you react to the combined rolls of all of the players.  Game play is fast, but with tons of tactical choices Mysteriumevery turn, and due to the dice, each game is different.

Combining elements of two games discussed above, Dixit and Fury of Dracula, Mysterium is an asymmetric cooperative game about ghosts and the supernatural.  Up to six players take on the roles of ghost hunters, while a seventh player takes on the role of the ghost.  The hunters will need to work in tandem with the invisible ghost, following clues and hints left by her, in order to lay her spirit to rest.  Illustrated to the same incredible degree as Dixit, the cards from Mysterium may also be used as expansion cards for the Dixit games.

Ruckus The Goblin Army Game is a goofy, light-hearted tactical card game featuring Munchkin-esque artwork and humor.

Ruckus begins with a drafting phase, where players via for specific soldiers in unique factions.  But draft carefully, as every player only has a limited amount of points to purchase soldiers with.  Each faction has special abilities that assist them in the next phase of the game, which is all out fighting.  The game is designed to be accessible to LotR LCG Nin-in-Eilph Adventure Packbeginners, but complicated enough for multiple replays.

The Lord of the Rings Living Card Game gains its newest Adventure Pack this weekend with The Nin-In-Eilph.  Watch you step carefully as you travel through the marshes of Nin-In-Eilph with this sixty card expansion.  Contained within is an entirely new hero card as well as a brand new scenario.Coup Reformation expansion

Coup, the third card game in the Resistance series, gains its first expansion this weekend.  Reformation includes additional cards that allow for faction and team play for up to four players.  One new mechanic sees players declare allegiance to either the Catholic or Protestant faiths, which allows them to target other members of the faith.

Falling card gameFalling slowly is the name of the game in the appropriately named card game, Falling.

Four to eight players, including a dealer, compete to see who among them hits the ground last after falling from an incredible height.  Going splat is inevitable, so the goal is to do so last, keeping your opponents in the air with the most dastardly methods possible.   Dixit Daydreams

Absent in the gaming world for a awhile, Dixit is back with another card expansion.  Daydreams includes eighty-four additional art cards that can be incorporated into any previous version of the party card game.  For those unfamiliar with Dixit, the game operates off of mechanics similar to Apples to Apples, with players laying down various illustrated cards to try and convey a word, sound, or gesture given by another Subdivision board gameplayer.

Bezier Games releases another version of Suburbia this weekend called, Subdivision.  Operating off of similar mechanics to the original game, players attempt to build the most contemporary, advanced subdivision, constructing buildings, roads, houses, and other structures while also trying to keep them up to code.  Subdivision complicates things, however, by keeping players located into a small, constrained section of the gaming board.Core Worlds Revolution

Core Worlds, the universe spanning deck building game, expands further this weekend with Core Worlds:  Revolution.  A one hundred card expansion for the game, Revolution gives players the ability to construct Advancements on conquered worlds along with new Hero Tactic abilities that are linked to specific hero cards and located in Among the Stars The Ambassadors expansiona separate Hero Deck.

Along with Core Worlds, the Among the Stars drafting game gains a 150 card expansion called Ambassadors.  Among these 150 cards are twenty brand new locations, objectives, an Alien race, conflicts (replacing the original set), and the ability to play with a fifth or sixth player.

Sentinels of the Multiverse, the highly popular cooperative superhero card game, takes itsSentinels Tactics The Flame of Freedom basic rule set and themes and rearranges them for Sentinel Tactics:  The Flame of Freedom.  This entirely new board game version of the Sentinels universe has players selecting teams of heroes to fight against each or a team of villains.  The gameplay takes place on a hex map, with players moving D&D Rise of Tiamattheir teams across the board and engaging other players with their own unique superpowers.  Not entirely cooperative like the card game, Sentinel Tactics still requires teamwork in order to conquer your foes.

Wasn’t happy with the ending to the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline?  Play it out yourself with the new Avengers and X-Men Vs. Heroclix starter sets.  These two individual sets, one X-Men, one Avengers, each contain the essentials for playing a head-to-head game of Heroclix, allowing you and your friend to pit Avenger against X-Man!

If zombie films have taught us anything, it’s that the undead never stop coming.  Steve Jackson takes this concept to heart with his extremely successful Zombie Dice game.  Releasing this weekend is the Zombie Dice Brain Case, a special dice container with a heavy-duty screw-on cap and a score pad to keep track of your brains.

Have at me, Spirit of the Century!

The famous FATE-centric RPG gained a dirigible’s worth of new product today, including a supplemental edition called Strange Tales of the Century, written and designed to appear like a classic pulp novel, but actually providing new material.  Three actual SotC novels were released, however, including Khan of Mars, King Khan, and Sally Slick and the Steel Syndicate.

Forget Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and Slytherin.

Mage Wars is all about Druid vs. Necromancer!

This new two Mage expansion to the base game introduces forces of magic not originally included in the base game.

The Horn that Wakes becomes the most recently released Game of Thrones LCG Adventure Pack, including sixty cards that return to the Night’s Watch, Wildings, and North themes.

One of the hottest (pun intended) cooperative games on shelves right now, Flash Point:  Fire Rescue, is about to get a little hotter.  Excuse the lame burns (sorry!).

Anyway, Extreme Danger, the newest expansion for the game, adds two new levels, basement and attic, to extend the difficulty of the game, requiring that players climb further.  Also included in Extreme Danger are an entire set of unique miniatures which now are sculpted to represent each type of firefighter rather than having a single mold in different colors.

A new deception based card game, Coup (not coop), has players attempting to get their opponents to reveal their two secret identity cards, each laid out face down in front of them, throughout the game by using their own, hidden, special abilities.

After the release of Shadowrun fifth edition earlier this year, players have been clamoring for supplemental material.  No longer do you have to hack corporations to get it, either, because Shattered States, an introductory level adventure for beginner players, is on shelves this weekend.

Munchkin gets a double shot of new this weekend with two distinct booster pack expansions.  First up is Munchkin Gets Promoted, a collection of formerly impossible to find special edition promo cards from throughout Munchkin‘s history.  Second is a goblin-centric booster expansion for Munchkin Pathfinder, Gobsmacked.

Sixty beautifully illustrated cards, ready-made to expand the existing Dixit party-style games arrive in the form of Dixit Origins.

The train keeps a rollin’ all night long with Ticket to Ride‘s newest map expansion, Nederland!

Considering the country is littered with bridges (and accompanying tolls to use them), Nederland adds a distinct element to the game where players must pay tokens to access certain bridge pathways.  The second player to use one of these double bridges, then must pay back those tokens to the first player if they are to cross.

Finally, Mice and Mystics receives its first expansion in the form of Heart of Glorm.  This direct sequel to the original game adds new miniatures, cards, and especially chapters to continue the quest of the mice knights after they have defeated Vanestra.

Restock is the magic word for this week’s New Game Stuff.

Above all else is the return or revenge or attack of the X-Wing miniatures game.  After having been out of print for a limited time, all of the wave two ships are back in stock.  That’s the Tie Infiltrator, the Millennium Falcon, the A-Wing, and the Slave I.  And they’re just in time, too, because this Sunday brings the first Star Wars X-Wing League Play day up at the store.  So choose whether you support the Rebel Alliance or the Empire then come knock some ships out of the stars in some head-to-head battle.  Sign-up will begin at noon and play will commence shortly after.

After selling out swiftly last week, Dixit Quest has returned from whatever magical land this game hails from.  For those who’ve been awaiting the return of Dixit 2, this is your chance.  Dixit Quest is an eighty-four card expansion for the base Dixit game, adding a gallery’s worth of psychedelic, gorgeous artwork to this Apple-to-Apples-esque party game.  If you’re not familiar with Dixit, then allow me to inform you.  Play revolves around players taking turns offering descriptive words, sounds, or phrases, then everyone who didn’t lays down a full-art card which they feel best encompasses the description.  From there, everyone chooses the card they think the person who offered the descriptor laid down.  Points are awarded based on who is correct and incorrect.  An extremely well illustrated game, Dixit is fun for the whole family.

Magazines are supposed to have gone the way of the dodo, but here’s a brand new one in the tradition of Dungeon and Dragon Magazine called Gygax Magazine.  As they say in the forward, the name of the publication was chosen out of respect to the originator of the RPG and as a statement of the traditional approach the magazine is going to take to its content.  The first issue of this nostalgic treat features stories about “The Future of Tabletop Gaming,” “The Cosmology of Role-Playing Games,” and “DMing for Your Toddler.”  A system-neutral play setting is also included, being Gnatdamp a tiny hamlet in the middle of a swamp, full of rowdy cutthroats.  Come reminisce with issue #1 of Gygax Magazine.

And, finally, a moment of Warhammer 40K zen featuring (the late arriving; thanks Games Workshop) the XV88 Tau Broadside Battlesuit.  Soak it up.

Far over the misty mountains cold lies The Hobbit Heroclix Starter Set and individual boosters.

First, the new Epic Campaign starter set applies the same stand-alone adventure format that was featured in the previous Lord of the Rings starter set, including an individual campaign, maps, dice, and eight miniatures of core characters like Bilbo, Gandalf, and Thorin Oakenshield.  Pick up this set for a complete adventure in a box!  And anyone who does pick up a copy will receive a promo Golem miniature!  Or pick up a single figure booster to add other extra characters to your party.  So says Smaug!

Start prepping your hand/eye coordination, because Dixit Jinx is going to take it to push it to the limit.  Combining the wild fun of the popular Jungle Speed party game with the visual intensity of Dixit, this new version of the original game.  Players take turns giving a verbal cue of an image, then laying down (at various speeds) nine cards, each decorated with beautifully designed pictures, one of which will be the image the player described.  Everyone else attempts to grab that card as fast as they can, laying waste to any hand in their way!  If you’ve got three to six people (inebriated or not) hanging around, Dixit Jinx is just about the best way to kill some time and have fun doing it.

Wizards of the Coast is already getting into the holiday spirit by releasing their first ever Magic the Gathering Holiday Gift  Box.  Inside this magical box are tons of wonderful contents for a low price.  There are four Return to Ravnica booster packs, full-art card dividers, stickers to personalize these dividers any way you like, a stack of land, a special promo art version of Dreg Mangler, and all of these goodies come stocked within a giant card box capable of holding 2,000 cards.  I don’t think it’ll fit in a stocking, but don’t let that stop you from buying it for you favorite Magic player.

You don’t have to own a round table to play this next game, but it doesn’t hurt.  Shadows Over Camelot, the popular Days of Wonder cooperative game set in Arthurian times, now exists in a card game format.  Shadows Over Camelot: The Card Game brings the same cooperative gameplay of the original down to a easy-travel, quicker to play format.  Players band together to complete quests within a time limit, battling Morgan le Fay and looking to Merlin for assistance.  The fate of the round table is decided by the amount of white and black swords the valiant knights accumulate.  Of course, some knights might not be as trustworthy as others.

Munchkin Apocalypse now!

After all the worst events known to humankind descend upon the planet, you are a weary survivor, fighting for your life.  New disaster card types keep you on your feet while four new classes give you plenty of options to out last them.  As usual you can reach level 10 or, special to this version of Munchkin, you can choose to open seven seals and bring about the end of the world.  Plus, for a little extra insanity, Axe Cop‘s Ethan Nicolle provides a guest Monster for the game.  Don’t be an errand boy sent by grocery clerks by avoiding the newest Munchkin set, instead love the smell of napalm in the morning and pick a copy up.

Ascension:  Immortal Heroes brings the strategy and tactics of Magic the Gathering to a board game environment, thanks to Pro Tour creators Rob Dougherty and Brian Kibler.  Wield the power of the new Soul Gems to gain access to powerful heroes form the past.  You can play the game as either a two player stand-alone game or as an expansion to Ascension:  Storm of Souls.
