Captain America Steve RogersCaptain America Steve Rogers #1

-After qualifying for AARP benefits for the last several months, Steve Rogers is back to his youthful self!

-Nick Spencer, writer of the Sam Wilson Captain America series, Astonishing Ant-Man, and The Fix will also be handling writing duties on this series.

-Those who have been missing classic Captain America action, this is the series for you!  Cap is forced to go up against a resurgent Hydra, as well as two iconic enemies from his past.

-If you’re a fan of Sam Wilson, don’t worry.  Not only is Sam sticking around as Captain America, he will also be co-starring in this series.

Nighthawk #1Nighthawk

-Spinning out of the Marvel‘s Squadron Supreme series!

-Nighthawk is the Batman of the Squadron Supreme, but far more deadly and vicious.  So, fans of the Caped Crusader, Moon Knight, and other Batman-esque superheroes should give him a look.

-After leaving the Cyborg series at DC, David F. Walker is talking over writing duties on Nighthawk!

-Housed out of Chicago, Nighthawk is faced with a rash of serial murders.  To solve the case, he’ll have to dig deep into his own dark fears and doubts.

Scooby ApocalypseScooby Apocalypse #1

-This ain’t your momma’s Scooby Doo!

-Covers and writing duties are being handled by legendary comic creator, Jim Lee!

-Interior art, though not by Jim Lee, is from another veteran, Howard Porter.  Porter cut his teeth on Grant Morrison’s famous JLA run from the nineties and has recently been illustrating Superman and Justice League 3000.

-Still featuring classic Scooby-monster-hunting action, but in a setting more akin to The Walking Dead or Mad Max:  Fury Road.

DC Universe Rebirth #1DC Universe Rebirth

-DC is relaunching all of their series at #1, making it easier to jump into the universe.  And it all starts here!

-Likely the last comic issue written by Geoff Johns for the time being (as he’s, you know, kinda in charge of the DC Cinematic Universe now)!

-Everything you’ll need to know about the DC Rebirth timeline and universe will be established here!

-Not only will this one shot feature the death (his name rhymes with Looper Dan) and/or a return of character (his name rhymes with Jolly Guest), it’s price tag is only $2.99!

Midnighter v.1 tpbMidnighter v.1 tpb

-One of DC‘s most underrated, under read series being released right now!  Now’s your chance to catch up.

-Midnighter is a Batman-esque anti-hero from the former Wildstorm universe, but, unlike Batman, Midnighter has no reservations about punching his fist literally through someone’s face.

-Writer Steve Orlando crafts a wonderful slow build story where Midnighter juggles his dating life (after recently having broken up with his boyfriend) and the apprehension of wayward weapons he was supposed to protect.

-Each aspect is brought to explosively stylistic life by the unique art style of Aco; trust me, it looks nothing like any series you’re currently reading.

Snowfall #1Snowfall

-From an established creative duo, Snowfall is the newest ongoing series launched from Image Comics!

-Part pulp, part dystopic future, part superhero story, Snowfall blends genres for a comic experience you won’t find at either of the major two companies.

-Set in a world that has not experienced snow in decades and also suffers under the rule of a despotic corporate entity, the series sees a hero, named the White Wizard, rise from obscurity to battle oppression.

-Martin Morazzo’s detailed, dynamic artwork brings this alternate world to life!

Avengers Standoff Welcome to Pleasant HillAvengers Standoff: Welcome to Pleasant Hill #1

-Avid readers of Marvel‘s various Avengers series will want to check this prelude issue out!

-The Avengers Standoff event will crossover all of the Avengers series, including New Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, Illuminati, and more.

-Written by Nick Spencer, the current writer of both the Astonishing Ant-Man and Sam Wilson Captain America, this tie-in event will feature three eras of Cap joining forces.

-When Bucky Barnes appears to have attacked a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, Steve Rogers is left with the job of capturing him.  Will Steve and Bucky’s friendship get in the way?  Will Sam Wilson have to be the voice of reason?

Power Man and Iron Fist #1Power Man and Iron Fist

-In preparation of Marvel‘s next two Netflix original series, the Power Man and Iron Fist ongoing returns these two heroes to their for hire heyday.

-David Walker, the acclaimed author behind the recent Shaft comics and DC‘s Cyborg series, jumps to Marvel.

-Walker is accompanied by Sanford Greene, a rising talent who’s exaggerated, caricature-ish style is brimming with energy and character.

-Danny and Luke get engulfed by the New York crime scene as they track down a magical stone that threatens to destroy the city.

Power Up #1Power Up #1 (of 6)

-Have you missed on the ebullient fun that is Lumberjanes (Eisner winner!) and Giant Days?  Don’t miss out again!

-Boom! Studios mainstay, Kate Leth, will be writing the series, bringing to bare her previous experience on Adventure Time Fionna and Cake, Bravest Warriors, and Edward Scissorhands.

-Prophecies in most narratives revolve around epic heroes and legendary heroines.  Power Up is not that story.

-Instead, the heroes of prophecy are an apathetic woman in her late twenties, a past-his-prime athlete, a mother of two, and a goldfish.  Yes, you read that last one right.

Wolf #1Wolf #1

-Ales Kot is gaining a reputation as the Hunter S. Thompson of comics, writing some of the most psychedelic, trippy series in recent years.

-Now, Kot launches Wolf, an ongoing detective/crime story from Image Comics!

-But unlike your Chinatowns and Maltese Falcons, Wolf will have hints of the supernatural, akin to True Detective or the Dresden Files.

-Fair warning, there may also be a fair share of Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice, for those that are so inclined.

JLA Gods and Monsters BatmanJLA Gods and Monsters Batman #1

-Leading up to the release DC‘s newest animated movie, this series of one-shots will detail the alternate reality versions of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

-Bruce Timm, co-creator of Batman the Animated Series, is overseeing and writing all of these one-shots.

-Each of these one-shots will feature a done-in-one story about the origins of these drastically altered characters.

-In the Batman issue, readers will find out how Kirk Langstrom, not Bruce Wayne, became the vampire Batman of this world!

Cyborg #1Cyborg #1

-Vic Stone, a founding member of the New 52 Justice League, finally receives his own ongoing series!

-Cyborg has received upgrades before, but, at the beginning of this series, he’s receives a complete overhaul!

-Writer David Walker introduces a slew of new villains for Cyborg to battle, including the Technosapiens, an alien race that want to devour Vic’s own tech.

-Bringing of this insanity to life is one of DC‘s best house artists, Ivan Reis (Blackest Night, Justice League, Green Lantern).
