Magic The Gathering Origins Fat Pack boosterIt’s that time of year again (yes, again).  Magic the Gathering is launching another set that segues into a whole new era of the popular CCG.  MtG Origins is to be the final core set (reprinting old cards alongside new ones) ever, as the company will be instigating an updated release schedule this Fall.  As usual with a new Magic release, the standard boxes of booster packs, Fat Packs, and Intro Decks all release today.  Alongside those releases, however, there are also new Deck Builder’s Toolkits and Clash Packs.Walking Dead Bang Dice Game

Two, count them, two Walking Dead dice games hit the shelves this weekend!

First up, Bang! follows up its own Dice Game version and the Walking Dead Bang! edition with the Walking Dead Bang Dice Game!  Not only do players take on roles like Walking Dead Dice Game CryptozoicSheriff and Walker, similar to regular Bang!, opponents also compete to collect points while rolling dice.  But be careful, but too many zombies bites will whittle away from your overall score.

Out from Cryptozoic is the succinctly titled, Walking Dead Dice Game.  A competing version to the above Bang! variation, the Walking Dead Dice Game sees players rolling dice in order to acquire supplies and move from region to region on a mini-gameboard.  Essentially a scaled down version of the larger survival-centric Walking Dead board game.Doctor Who 8th Doctor Sourcebook

Yes, the Ninth Doctor Sourcebook came out last week.  Yes, the Eighth Doctor Sourcebook releases this weekend.  Sue us, time travel is weird.  Like each of the Sourcebooks in the Doctor Who RPG line, the Eighth Doctor Sourcebook contains a detailed explanation of this version of the Doctor’s exploits.  But, wait, the Eighth Doctor only starred in a single TV movie!  In place of other episode, Cubicle 7 has written an extended adventure that takes players across the various realms and time periods of the Crabs Adjust HumidityDoctor Who universe, all while controlling the Eighth Doctor and his various companions.

Possibly the most often asked question at Pulp Fiction is “Do you carry Cards Against Humanity?”  Sadly, the answer has always been “no,” because the makers of that game do not sell their product through gaming distributors.  Luckily, the answer has changed to “yes,” because a forward thinking company has released Crabs Adjust Humidity.  An exact copy of the format and style of Cards Against Humanity, Crabs Adjust Humidity contains new cards that can be played as a standalone game (that works exactly like CardsCthulhu's Vault Against Humanity) or incorporated into the original game.

A darker, insanity driven version of the popular storytelling game, Once Upon a Time, Cthulhu’s Vault has players competing to tell a story using classic mythos elements.  However, unlike Once Upon a Time, players must defeat an Eldar God in the game’s final round, akin to Chew Card Game Cases of the FDAthe endgame scenario of Arkham Horror.

Popular Image comic book, Chew, comes to the boardgaming workd in Chew:  Cases of the FDA.  In, Chew:  Cases of the FDA, you’ll work to solve a case pulled straight from the pages of the comic series.  Whether it’s finding clues, recruiting allies with amazing food-related powers, or sabotaging your opponents, each round you’ll work to close the book on your particular investigation before your opponents can swoop in and steal your spot as the top-food-cop in town.

D&D Dungeons Dragons Icons of the Realms Starer Set MiniaturesSince most of tonight’s post is mostly populated by Magic the Gathering product, we’ll start out with the two non-Magic related items.

First up, is the second item release for Dungeons & Dragons aka D&D Next aka D&D 5.0 is out this weekend.  The Icons of the Realm miniature set for the D&D Starter Set includes pre-painted miniatures for each of the six character classes, including cleric, fighter, wizard, and more.

The second non-Magic release for the week is the new Stormclaw box set for Stormclaw 40K WarhammerWarhammer 40K.

Acting like a semi-starter kit, Stormclaw features two playable armies, one for Orks, one for Space Wolves.  Outside of a condensed, digest sized version of the 40K core rules, the box set also includes an exclusive Stormclaw campaign booklet and two exclusive figures for each army.  Grukk Face-Rippa, for the Orks, and Krom Dragongaze, for Space Wolves, also come with rules for play.

In case you’ve been asleep for a month or so, the 2015 Core Set for Magic the Gathering is out.  As is the case with all set releases for Magic, the standard booster boxes, Fat Packs, and Intro Decks have been released.  Fat Packs contain nine booster packs of M15, two mini-deck boxes, one larger one, a spindown counter, and more.  Intro Decks are pre-built sixty card decks and two booster packs.M15 Core Set Clash Pack 2015

For the first time, Wizards has also released a Two-Player Clash Pack.  This dual deck set includes two entirely pre-built, playable decks, making it perfect for two friends to pick up and play.  Similar to the previously released Event Decks, the Clash Pack contain a number of high dollar MtG Core Set M15 Sleevesrares, including Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Temple of Mystery, Genesis Hydra, and  Courser of Kruphix.
Finally, if you’re going to be gaining a ton of new M15 singles, you’re going to want sleeves to go with them.  Each of the six major Planeswalkers for the set have each received the sleeve treatment, so no matter what color you play, Wizards has you covered.  As well, new playmats and binders have also been released.

Always ready to pimp out Pulp customers who’ve got work coming out, the recently Kickstarted game Exile Sun has arrived on the shelves featuring an entire art design by Eric J. Carter.  Eric has been a customer since our original location, building a reputation as a go-to artist for deck building games like Dominion and Eminent Domain.  Exile Sun is, as well, a deck-builder, but with a ticking-clock twist.  At the end of each player’s turn, after they’ve finished, they progress a ticker on a special timer track, activating special events for the game as players progress.

Apparently the name Ultimate Werewolf was a misnomer as there are two new expansion packs out for the famous party game, making it more ultimate-er than before.  The first is Ultimate Werewolf Artifacts, which adds forty artifact cards to the deck, completely changing the method of play.  Now, instead of simply having a character designation (human or werewolf) each player also possesses an artifact that gives them special abilities and motivations.  The second, Ultimate Werewolf Inquisition is a standalone version of the original game with some altered rules for a smaller group play.

Trick taking games becomes a TICK taking in You Suck.

Players take turns laying down cards from a suited deck onto special tick cards, each granting special abilities to each player.  These bids will earn you even more points and abilities based on whether your bid is matched or not, gaining the player the possibility of earning a unique tick card.

If you’ve built up your stable of creature miniatures for Pathfinder, you may want to add an extra wing on it for the triplicate of dragons in the White Dragon Evolution set.  As you can see in the picture, this set includes the three growth stages of the legendary White Dragon.  Basically, the White Album of Pathfinder, this set will go down in history and away from shelves very shortly.

Finally, the big product for the evening, the release of Magic the Gathering’s newest Core Set, 2014.  As per usual, the release of a new set is accompanied by a veritable range of ways to purchase cards.  These include, Deck Builder’s Toolkits (the best value to get into Magic), Fat Packs (a 9 booster box set), Intro Decks (pre-build decks and two boosters), and, of course, booster packs in a variety of languages (English, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, and Korean).

What say we blow through this one today, chappies?  ‘Cause who wants to be reading on a lovely day like this with the sun out and…what?  You just saw a person spontaneously light on fire as they stepped out their door?

Ah, who the heck needs the outside, let’s get to some reading!

Munchkin proves that size does matter this week with the release of Munchkin Deluxe (that last part needs to be said in a booming announcer’s voice, by the way).  But what’s so deluxe about it, anyway?  Well, existing as almost a midway point between the base Munchkin card game and the Munchkin Quest boardgame, Munchkin Deluxe contains a helping of handy whozits not in either game.  These include a game board that is labeled to show players where their cards go, colored pawns that can keep track of players’ leveling, and associated cards that help with keeping track of who is what color.  Also, you may have seen us mention it on Facebook, we currently have a “very special” Munchkin product in-stock that we can not tell you about, but will be happy to show it to you if you come into the store.  Ha ha, coyness!

Are you ready to regain your honor, gamer-san?  Good, then the new updated/re-release of Shogun is the game for you.  Ikusa is the new name (and don’t make the mistake of searching for that under Google Images like I did; file that under “stuff you do not want to see”), but gameplay is essentially the same.  Like a more elaborate Risk, Ikusa (aka Shogun, aka Samurai Swords) has been about using samurai, daimyo, and ashigaru warriors to gain control of feudal Japan since its original inception at Milton Bradley.  What the updated version offers over the previous releases is quality design elements; the game pieces are detailed, the board is beautiful, and every player gets a swanky tray to hold their figures in as well as a stat card.  Another fact:  if you don’t purchase Ikusa, you have to perform seppuku.

It’s not quite a card game, it’s not quite a boardgame, but Bloodsuckers is certainly an inventive game.  Created by one of the designers of Castle Panic, Bloodsuckers is a vampire-themed game that pits the titled bloodsuckers against an army of vampire hunters.  Gameplay revolves around placing vampire and hunter cards on a playmat that represents five locations in the town of Blackwood.  These locations are also present on a nifty game board, where each location comes with a dial that players turn to indicate the location’s current state; a clock dial is also included to keep track of the time of day.  As we’re talking about humans and vampires here, the powers of each wax or wane depending on whether it’s night or day and what type of character you are playing.  If you enjoy Nightfall and/or Last Night on Earth, you might want to have a sip or two of Bloodsuckers juicy filling.

How about ending with a Magic trick, eh?  Or a bunch of Magic tricks, in this situation.  As a way of supporting all the Planeswalker-y goodness that is present in the new 2012 Core Set, Wizards shipped a bunch’a 2012 gaming materials today.  These include, new Garruk sleeves and deck boxes, new 2012 Planeswalkers sleeves and boxes, new Magic logo-backed Commander-sized sleeves, new Planeswalkers 9-Pocket binder, and a new Planeswalkers playmat.  Whew, that’s a lotta new. 

It don’t stop there, though.  The new Commander deck boxes were also released.  These are oversized boxes that fit over 25 large Commander cards, as well as 100 standard cards.  Take a look at the picture to the right.  Magic trick over.
