Batman BeyondDC June Relaunch Wave 1

-Now that Convergence is over, DC has canceled nearly half of their line and are replacing it in June with about twenty-four new series!

-The first wave of these new titles release this week.  DC‘s directive with this relaunch is not to erase continuity, but to expand the tones and genres represented at the company.  Creative over homogeneity.

-The new titles out this week include Bat-Mite, Batman Beyond, Bizarro, Midnighter, and Omega Men.

-Returning series with new creative teams or storylines include Action Comics, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Justice League, and Lobo.

Groot #1Groot

-With Secret Wars underway and the Rocket Raccoon series defunct, Marvel is filling that space with another member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

-I.  Am.  Groot.

-I.  Am.  Groot.

-I.  Am.  Groot.

AirboyAirboy #1 (of 4)

-In the vein of Spike Jonze’s film Adaptation and Grant Morrison’s Animal Man run, Image Comics launches the Airboy miniseries.

-A meta series at heart, Airboy is about the creation of itself.  Wait, what?

-Yes, writer James Robinson (Fantastic Four, Earth 2, Starman) has written himself into his own comic.  His struggles with adapting Airboy, a character from the forties, his personal life, and his addictions are detailed across the series.

-Oh, but wait!  It’s not that easy, as Airboy, himself, actually begins appearing in the real world and confronting Robinson.  Talk about bringing a character to life.

Secret Wars Miniseries ReleasesAmazing Spider-man Renew Your Vows Secret Wars Battleworld

-With all of the main Marvel ongoing series going away, the Secret Wars tie-in miniseries continue to roll out.

Postal #1Postal #1

-In the vein of other smalltown horror comics like Revival and Nailbiter, Image now launches Postal.

-Eden is a calm, quite little town, but it hides a secret:  it houses fugitive criminals waiting to gain a new identity.  Everyone has to be on their best behavior as not to draw attention, but the first murder in years has just occurred and everyone is getting paranoid about who did it.

-Issue one will feature a haunting variant cover by Linda Sejic!

-The first issue of Postal is ALREADY sold out at the distributor level, so if you want a copy, get it this Wednesday!  Also, means it will have some after market value.

Nameless #1Nameless #1

-Grant Morrison is writing a new series for Image Comics.  And, yes, it’s a weird as you might think.

-Joining Morrison is his frequent artistic collaborator, Chris Burnham (Batman, Inc).

-Fans of Morrison’s Seaguy, Annhilator, The Filth, and The Invisibles will find another thought-provoking, philosophical tale with Nameless.

-Honestly, I’d summarize the plot, but I’m not sure what to say.  Something about a lost cosmonaut moon base, a dead astronaut, and a sentient asteroid, all blended together in classic Morrison fashion.

Return of the Living Deadpool #1Return of the Living Deadpool #1 (of 4)

-Cullen Bunn (Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, Deadpool Killology) returns to the world of Deadpool!

-This miniseries is a sequel to last year’s Night of the Living Deadpool miniseries!

-What’s worse than a horde of zombies?  A horde of zombie Deadpools!

-Like a comedic Walking Dead, the whole miniseries will be drawn in black and white, except for Deadpool, who will be in full color.

All New Captain America Fear Him #1 (of 4)All New Captain America Fear Him #1

-You may have noticed there is a Dennis Hopeless Signing countdown clock on the website’s homepage.  Here’s another series you can bring in to get signed on that day!

-Hopeless is writing all four issues of this miniseries that bridges the gap between Sam Wilson’s first appearance as Captain America in issue #25 and issue #1 of All New Captain America.

-With February only have four Wednesdays, Marvel commonly releases a weekly miniseries that ships an issue on Wednesday.  This year, that is All New Captain America Fear Him.

-If you’ve been enjoying Dennis’ previous work on Avengers Arena, Spider-Woman, Cable and X-Force, or any of his other series, then check out his interpretation of one of Marvel’s major characters.

-Skottie Young, famous for providing amazing baby variant covers to all the Marvel books of the last two years, illustrates this series (one he was born to draw!) while also writing it!

-Not only does Young provide the regular cover for the issue, but also a sweet variant cover sporting Rocket firing a ridiculously over-sized gun.  David Peterson, author and illustrator of Mouse Guard, also provides a variant.

-On the lamb from intergalactic law, Rocket attempts to clear his name as he races across the galaxy!

Image Comics Two-fer:  Mercenary Sea #1 & Fuse #1

-Two new ongoing series from Image Comics drop this week, each featuring work of up-and-coming writers and artists!

-Mercenary Sea is a pulpy wartime adventure set aboard a refitted German U-Boat, as the crew of adventurers for hire travel the globe.

-Equally pulpy, but at the opposite end of time is Fuse, a murder mystery, cop procedural on-board a floating space station.

-Fuse is being written by Anthony Johnson, writer of cult classic series Wasteland and Umbral.

Winter Soldier Bitter March #1 (of 5)

-Leading up to this year’s Captain America: Winter Soldier movie, Marvel is launching a short and sweet series offering background on the character.

-A complete homage to Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels, Bitter March tells a flashback story of Bucky Barnes’ long lost past.

-Rick Remender, author of Uncanny X-Force, Uncanny Avengers, Deadly Class, Fear Agent, and so much more, helms this miniseries.

-The Winter Soldier is pitted against two American S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, with both hot on the trail of two wayward Nazi scientists.

X-Force #1

-Returning to the covert ops theme of Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force, X-Force #1 sees Cable leading his team on missions the X-Men don’t want announced to the public.

-After the conclusions of Cable and X-Force and the previous Uncanny X-Force series, members of each team have combined to carry out the dirty work of the mutant population.

-Simon Spurrier has been bucking expectations with his mind-bending X-Men Legacy series, of late.  What sorts of twists and turns will he unleash here?

-Not only is this black ops mutant team comprised of Cable, Psylocke, and Fantomex, but also the recently re-powered Marrow.

-Rising star writer (and full time attorney) Charles Soule (Swamp Thing, Red Lanterns, Thunderbolts, Superman/Wonder Woman) is the absolute perfect writer to handle the legal dealings of Jennifer Walters, part time lawyer and all time greatest, green criminal beater!

-Fans of Hawkeye pay attention, because you don’t want to miss out on the next Marvel sensation!

-She-Hulk will see Jennifer attempting to balance her own, private practice with crime fighting, all told in one-and-done issues!
