Civil War II Amazing Spider-ManCivil War Amazing Spider-Man & Gods of War #1 (of 4)

-With Civil War II in overdrive, Marvel begins turning out four tie-in miniseries this week.

-Out this week are the Civil War II:  Amazing Spider-Man and Civil War II:  Gods of War first issues.

-The inciting incident for Civil War II is the discovery of Ulysses, an Inhuman who can predict the future.  When he predicts that one of Peter Parker’s closest friends will betray him, Spider-Man has to dig deep to uncover the mole in his organization.

-While the Civil War threat rages on, Hercules discovers a related obstacle that needs defeating.  While the Avengers are busy, however, Hercules will have to assemble a team of mythic heroes to quell the problem.

Prometheus: Life and Death #1 (of 4)Prometheus Life and Death

-Another miniseries in the Life and Death Dark Horse crossover that began with Predator:  Life and Death.

-Acclaimed writer Dan Abnett (Guardians of the Galaxy, Aquaman) continues where he left off with Predator:  Life and Death.

-Spinning out of the events of that previous miniseries, Prometheus:  Life and Death follows the Colonial Marines after they have outrun the Predators.

-Unfortunately, the ship they have stolen crash lands on LV-223, the planet where the Engineers built the Xenomorphs.

Gotham Academy LumberjanesLumberjanes/Gotham Academy #1 (of 6)

-Boom! and DC join forces for a crossover miniseries that no one knew they wanted, but were thrilled to receive once it was announced!

-Lumberjanes is one of Boom! Studios‘ flagship titles, having earned numerous Eisner Awards and countless avid fans who appreciate the inclusive tone and wacky humor of the series.

-Gotham Academy has also earned an army of fans, but on the DC side of the street.  Essentially a Harry Potter-equivalent for the DC Universe, Gotham Academy follows a group of plucky teens at a private school in Gotham as they uncover mysteries and battle ghosts, ghouls, and other creatures.

-As both groups are addicted to solving mysteries, a spooky building hidden in the woods draws them together for an all-ages adventure.

DC Rebirth Week 2Wonder Woman Rebirth #1

-Returning to their original numbering (adding all of the interceding New 52 issues) Action Comics and Detective Comics return.  Action Comics will star an empowered Lex Luthor as he fills Superman‘s shoes, while Detective Comics sees Batman and Batwoman training an Bat-Family army that includes Spoiler, Tim Drake, and Clayface.

-After Geoff Johns established Aquaman as one of the DC Universe‘s greatest heroes, Dan Abnett picks up the reins sending Arthur Curry on a dangerous mission to battle Black Manta while brokering peace between Atlantis and the surface world.

-Spinning out of the mind-blowing events of DC Universe Rebirth #1, Joshua Williamson (Birthright, Ghosted, The Illuminati) takes over the Flash series with Barry Allen at the center.

-Greg Rucka (Black Magick, Batman, 100 Bullets) returns to Wonder Woman, a series he received ample acclaim for writing in the early 2000s!  A close loss and the removal of a classic weapon lead Wonder Woman on a journey to reclaim her position as Themascyra’s ambassador.

-Want a Buffy-like comic with fairies and giant cats?  Try Dark Horse‘s new Mae series!

-Lost for years, fighting in an alternate reality of magic and fantasy, Abbie has to flee back to Earth as that world falls apart around her.  Mae, Abbie’s sister, is entrusted to find her, but must contend with various mystical creatures escaping into our realm.

-Written, illustrated, and created by Gene Ha, a former understudy of Alan Moore, Mae promises to be one of Dark Horse‘s signature series.

-Epic in scope and raunchy in content, like Saga, Mae is the indy series you should check out this week.

Archangel #1Archangel William Gibson

-Famous Sci-Fi author William Gibson (Neuromancer) comes to comics!

-Following the complete irradiation of the planet, Earth’s population is forced to move into a machine called The Splitter that generates an alternate, digital reality.

-On art duties for the book is comics legend, Butch Guice (Captain America, Astro City, Superman)!

-Fans of series like East of West, Prophet, and Black Science should give this a look!

Future Quest #1Future Quest #1

-Future Quest kicks off DC‘s relaunch of the Hana Barbara properties!

-Combining cartoon characters like Johnny Quest, Space Ghost, and the Herculoids, Future Quest constructs a universe and continuity around these beloved characters!

-When Johnny and Hadji discover an alien mystery in a swamp, they must team up with the universe’s other heroes forestall the threat and save the universe.

-Jeff Parker (Aquaman, Batman ’66, Hulk) joins forces with up-and-coming artist “Doc” Shaner (Convergence: Shazam, Multiversity, Darkseid War:  Green Lantern).

-You’ve seen Captain America: Civil War.  You’ve read the original Civil War.  Now get ready for the sequel!

-A completely original event from Marvel, Civil War II is reminiscent of the original in that Iron Man is facing off against another hero, but unlike last time it is Captain Marvel he’s butting heads with.

-Marvel architect, Brian Michael Bendis (All New X-Men, Invincible Iron Man, House of M), will be writing all seven issues.

-When a young Inhuman named Ulysses is discovered who can predict the future, Captain Marvel wants to conscript him to help them stop crimes before they happen.  Iron Man has different opinions.

-Two of the most popular Marvel characters (and the laziest ((and the most single)) come at each other in a fury of Nerf arrows and rage!

-Reminiscent of the successful Deadpool Kills and Deadpool Vs. miniseries releasing lately, this miniseries will be short and sweet!

-Add to the equation that it is Halloween on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier and a mystery is a foot and you’ve got a winning combination.

-Gerry Duggan, writer of the current ongoing Deadpool series as well as Dracula’s Gauntlet, handles writing duties on this entire miniseries!

DC Future’s End Week 1Action Comics Futures End #1

-It’s been three years since the DC New 52 began and, to celebrate, DC is bringing back last year’s highly sought after 3D covers!

-For the entire month of September, DC replaces their regular ongoing titles with Future’s End versions set five years into the future of the DC Universe.

-Each of these issues will also come in a standard form, with covers printed on regular comic paper, and a 3D version that features an image that alters depending on how it is tilted.  These covers quickly rose in value during last year’s Villains Month, so get them quickly if you want them.

-The issues for this week will be Action Comics, Aquaman, Batwing, Detective Comics, Earth 2, Grayson, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Swamp Thing, and Trinity of Sin Phantom Stranger.

-He’s the best there is at what he does, and what he does is die, apparently.

-The destined to be classic miniseries everyone has been waiting for is finally here!  Logan no long has his healing factor, and that spells certain doom for him!

-Prolific and impressively talented up-and-coming writer, Charles Soule (She-Hulk, Swamp Thing, Inhuman, Letter 44), is at the helm, killing Marvel‘s cash cow in the most intelligent way possible.

-Pulled out of seclusion for only the most important Marvel events, Steve McNiven (Civil War) matches the legendary nature of the story with his clean, detailed line work!

-Waking up from a chimichanga coma, Deadpool finds that the entire city has been overrun with the undead.

-As a cool stylistic choice, the entire comic is illustrated in black and white, except for Deadpool who is in color.

The Field #1 (of 4)

-Fans of mysterious serialized storytelling, like The Twilight Zone and LOST, should take a look at this new Image miniseries.

-Ed Brisson, up-and-coming writer of Robocop Last Stand, Secret Avengers, and Sheltered, delivers another unique Image experience!

-A lone man wakes up in a field with amnesia and no hope of figure out who he is or how he got there, except for a random cell phone that warns him about encroaching danger.

Deadpool vs. Carnage #1 (of 4)

-Cullen Bunn, local writer, continues his runaway success of a run on Deadpool with this four issue miniseries!

-The follow-up to Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, Deadpool Kills Deadpool, and Night of the Living Deadpool!

-As much as this miniseries is a match of viciousness, it is also a match of insanity.

-Solicits for the book promise ample disembodiment, collateral damage, and hijinks.

Aquaman and the Others #1

-Veteran DC writer and artist Dan Jurgens fleshes out the world of Aquaman that Geoff Johns established in the ongoing series!

-Gain more information on the history of The Others, the Justice League-esque team Aquaman hung out with before he became a famous superhero.

-Also learn more about the mysterious artifacts each of The Others wield against their foes, especially Aquaman‘s trident.

-If you’re still a person who laughs about there being an Aquaman comic series, get with the times and realize he’s one of DC‘s most bad@$$ characters!

Inhuman #1

-Nineties comic legend Joe Madureira (Battle Chasers, Avenging Spider-Man, Ultimates 3) returns to Marvel as interior artist on this ongoing series!

-Charles Soule handles writing duties, following up his hit runs on Swamp Thing, Thunderbolts, and She-Hulk!

-Mutants are so last year, it’s Inhumans all the way in 2014!
