Game of Thrones House Stark playmatEven though the members of the various Game of Thrones houses may be dwindling thanks to stabbings, dragon flames, beheadings, and other grisly forms of death, you can still represent them with the brand new Fantasy Flight playmats out this weekend.  Each playmat features the sigil of a house, including Stark, Targaryen, and Lannister.  Perfect for Magic the Gathering, the A Game of Thrones LCG game, or any other card game where you don’t want everything to slide all over the table.Waka Tanka

If you can look past the racism of Waka Tanka (trust us, the previous box art was worse), then you’ll probably have a great time with this bluffing game for three to six players.  In the game, players control shamans from the Sioux Nation, each attempting to conjure spirits in order to commune with them.  Each turn, players lay a spirit card face down in front of that spirit’s totem.  The catch is that a player is allowed to put down a card that does not match, something they’ll get away with Storyline Fairy Talesif no other player calls them on it.  Get rid of all your cards to claim victory.

Once upon a time there was a storytelling game that was not called Once Upon a Time and added mechanics from Apples to Apples.  That game was called Storyline Fairy Tales.  The first in a series of group storytelling games, Fairy Tales allows three to eight build their own fable with over 100 cards labeled with characters, locations, actions, and so forth.  Each player takes turns as the “narrator,” asking other players for a character or place or some other card descriptor.  The other players then place down their selection, leading to the narrator choosing the best one.  In the future, expansions will provide cards for other styles of story outside of fairy tales. My First Stone Age

The resource management game Stone Age is a great time for adults, but a little overly complicated and lengthy for children.  Z-Man games and designer Marco Teubner have solved that problem with My First Stone Age.  A kid friendly version of the game, My First Stone Age still involves two to four players moving figure around the board, collecting cute, wooden resources, and using them to construct their own settlements.  Unlike the original version of the game, My First Stone Age also plays in fifteen minutes, meaning a distracted child doesn’t have to pay attention that long in order to enjoy the experience.

Dixit MemoriesThere are plenty Apples to Apples clones on the shelves, but few that are as gorgeously illustrated as Dixit.  Each card in the game features a meticulously drawn, dreamlike illustration.  Dixit Memories is the newest expansion for the popular party game, featuring eighty-four additional cards to be mixed in with your Dixit base game.Netrunner Data and Destiny

Hotly awaited by avid Android Netrunner players, Data and Destiny is the newest oversized expansion pack to be released.  A deck-based, head-to-head card game set in a cyberpunk future, Netrunner is one of Fantasy Flight‘s most popular Living Card Games.  The Data and Destiny expansion provides over 160 additional cards for both the Runner and Corporation factions.  This expansion also introduces three entirely new Secrets Castles of Mad King LudwigRunner factions!

Castles of Mad King Ludwig is a tile laying game where each player is trying to build the perfect castle, subject to the whims of the King.  The Secrets expansion, out this weekend, provides more building opportunities, additional options for strategy, and a dash of intrigue to every decision in the game.  Among these latter additions are moats, swans to be collected, and mazes.Meow

You thought Asmadi Games could not out cute themselves after releasing Adorable Pandaring, but they may have with Meow.  A simple deception game, similar to Ultimate Werewolf or Bang!, Meow has players draw cards that say “Meow” or “Not Meow.”  On each turn, players will look at their cards and making a meow sound.  Other players can call them out as being “Not Meow,” upon which the player must reveal their cards.  If the accuser Elfenroadswas correct, that player is out.  If the accuser was wrong, they are out.

Reprinting the long defunct fantasy game, Elfenland, Elfenroads simultaneously expands and updates the original.  Included in the hefty box is a double-sided game board, each used in an entirely different version of the game.  In each version, players take on the role of a teenage elf that must pass through a maturation rite by traveling across the land, stopping at as many landmarks as you can.  To do so, you will ride various modes of transport, including wagons, dragons, and unicorns, attempting to get to the end of the journey faster than anyone else.Fury of Dracula reprint

Long out of print, Fury of Dracula has been revived by Games Workshop and Fantasy Flight.  Featuring updated miniatures, artwork, and game mechanics, Fury of Dracula recaptures the hunt for the famous vampire lord from the original.  In Fury of Dracula, up to four players take on the roles of the Van Helsing family and one player takes on the role of Dracula.  The Van Helsing’s must use clues and evidence left by Dracula to hunt him across the board in an effort to eventually capture him.  Dracula, however, may strike back at them, The Red Dragon Inn 5 The Character Trovetaking them out of the game.

There’s been a lot of rounds in the popular drinking game, Red Dragon Inn.  Realizing this, Slugfest Games has released The Red Dragon Inn 5:  The Character Trove, which, in addition to including four new characters, is also a gigantic box that can hold every single expansion for the game.  As well, the box includes storage bags, player mats, and money tokens.  Immediately giving you something to store in said box, Red Dragon Inn also receives three new characters expansions this weekend, sporting the sub-heading of Allies.  Each character is able to call upon a familiar to aid them in the game.Castle Dice

Castle Dice is a unique one to four player game that centers around the custom resource dice.  Each player takes on the role of a prince or princess who has been sent to construct a castle.  During a game, you will roll a lot of dice, but due to the dice drafting mechanic, what you roll isn’t nearly as important as how you react to the combined rolls of all of the players.  Game play is fast, but with tons of tactical choices Mysteriumevery turn, and due to the dice, each game is different.

Combining elements of two games discussed above, Dixit and Fury of Dracula, Mysterium is an asymmetric cooperative game about ghosts and the supernatural.  Up to six players take on the roles of ghost hunters, while a seventh player takes on the role of the ghost.  The hunters will need to work in tandem with the invisible ghost, following clues and hints left by her, in order to lay her spirit to rest.  Illustrated to the same incredible degree as Dixit, the cards from Mysterium may also be used as expansion cards for the Dixit games.

Asmodee‘s successful, educational card gaming series Timeline, where players attempt to accurately build a historical timeline of events, gains two additional versions this weekend.  First up, Timeline Americana includes cards featuring famous American popular historical events.  Second is Timeline American History, which narrows down the focus of the game to important dates that shaped American culture, including the Salem Witch Trials, Watergate, and the founding of Harvard.Pathfinder Monster Codex

A rather hefty bag of holding filled with new Pathfinder materials was dropped off at the store today and we thought we’d share with all of you what was in it.

Leading the way is the Pathfinder Monster Codex.  Contained within its glossy pages are detailed descriptions over over twenty creatures from the Pathfinder mythos, including information on their ecologies and habitats.  The Monster Codex is a perfect companion to the Bestiary volumes.  As well, the Pathfinder Player Companion:  Advanced Class Origins hardcover hit shelves.  This volume contains ten new classes as well as archetypes that can be integrated into your Pathfinder Map Pack Starship Corridorsgame.  Third up is the Pathfinder Campaign Setting:  Ships of the Inner Ships softcover volume, which details seven sailing barges that can be played in the Skull and Shackles Adventure Path or any other game scenario.

Ruckus The Goblin Army Game is a goofy, light-hearted tactical card game featuring Munchkin-esque artwork and humor.

Ruckus begins with a drafting phase, where players via for specific soldiers in unique factions.  But draft carefully, as every player only has a limited amount of points to purchase soldiers with.  Each faction has special abilities that assist them in the next phase of the game, which is all out fighting.  The game is designed to be accessible to LotR LCG Nin-in-Eilph Adventure Packbeginners, but complicated enough for multiple replays.

The Lord of the Rings Living Card Game gains its newest Adventure Pack this weekend with The Nin-In-Eilph.  Watch you step carefully as you travel through the marshes of Nin-In-Eilph with this sixty card expansion.  Contained within is an entirely new hero card as well as a brand new scenario.Coup Reformation expansion

Coup, the third card game in the Resistance series, gains its first expansion this weekend.  Reformation includes additional cards that allow for faction and team play for up to four players.  One new mechanic sees players declare allegiance to either the Catholic or Protestant faiths, which allows them to target other members of the faith.

Falling card gameFalling slowly is the name of the game in the appropriately named card game, Falling.

Four to eight players, including a dealer, compete to see who among them hits the ground last after falling from an incredible height.  Going splat is inevitable, so the goal is to do so last, keeping your opponents in the air with the most dastardly methods possible.   Dixit Daydreams

Absent in the gaming world for a awhile, Dixit is back with another card expansion.  Daydreams includes eighty-four additional art cards that can be incorporated into any previous version of the party card game.  For those unfamiliar with Dixit, the game operates off of mechanics similar to Apples to Apples, with players laying down various illustrated cards to try and convey a word, sound, or gesture given by another Subdivision board gameplayer.

Bezier Games releases another version of Suburbia this weekend called, Subdivision.  Operating off of similar mechanics to the original game, players attempt to build the most contemporary, advanced subdivision, constructing buildings, roads, houses, and other structures while also trying to keep them up to code.  Subdivision complicates things, however, by keeping players located into a small, constrained section of the gaming board.Core Worlds Revolution

Core Worlds, the universe spanning deck building game, expands further this weekend with Core Worlds:  Revolution.  A one hundred card expansion for the game, Revolution gives players the ability to construct Advancements on conquered worlds along with new Hero Tactic abilities that are linked to specific hero cards and located in Among the Stars The Ambassadors expansiona separate Hero Deck.

Along with Core Worlds, the Among the Stars drafting game gains a 150 card expansion called Ambassadors.  Among these 150 cards are twenty brand new locations, objectives, an Alien race, conflicts (replacing the original set), and the ability to play with a fifth or sixth player.

Sentinels of the Multiverse, the highly popular cooperative superhero card game, takes itsSentinels Tactics The Flame of Freedom basic rule set and themes and rearranges them for Sentinel Tactics:  The Flame of Freedom.  This entirely new board game version of the Sentinels universe has players selecting teams of heroes to fight against each or a team of villains.  The gameplay takes place on a hex map, with players moving D&D Rise of Tiamattheir teams across the board and engaging other players with their own unique superpowers.  Not entirely cooperative like the card game, Sentinel Tactics still requires teamwork in order to conquer your foes.

Dungeons and Dragons Next continues to expand its catalog of hardcover editions with this weekend’s The Rise of Tiamat.  This adventure for characters levels eight to fifteen, sees Munchkin Panicplayers attempt to halt the return of the dragon lord Tiamat to the Forgotten Realms.

Coming up on Channel A is a new program for fans of anime and manga, ready-made for party gaming!

Recently run through the distributor system following a successful Kickstarter run, Channel A is another in a long line of Apples to Apples style party games.  In the case of Channel A, players are selecting multiple cards, each with a uniquely anime-esque words, and using them to pitch a new anime show to the rest of the group.  Votes are taken and points are assigned based on majority.

If there’s a cult following bigger than fans of zombie stuff, it’s fans of Cthulhu stuff.

From the makers of Zombies!!!, the highly popular zombie outbreak survival game, comes Cthulhu!!!:  Hastur La Vista Baby!  Similar to Zombies!!!, players control hardened Elder God exterminators attempting to halt the return of an creature from beyond by sanctifying ritual sites.  However, the threat of insanity looms large over everyone thrust into the middle of this horrific setting.  Can you hold out?

Flash Point is jumping in the drink with its newest set of expansion boards, Dangerous Waters.

In this expansion are two double-sided game boards with representations of a submarine and a sunken ship, offering an entirely original environment for players to experience.  Any safety provided by the above-ground buildings of all the previous sets is now out-the-window, so to speak, raising the stakes in this popular cooperative game.

Newly arrived and quickly disappearing from the shelves is Magic the Gathering‘s most recent Duel Deck, Jace vs. Vraska.

Hotly anticipated, this duel deck retails for $19.99, but contains cards with values which far exceed the price.  As well, these duel deck sets are always perfect introductory products for new Magic players, giving them a fully built deck to play as well as one to give an opponent.

A supplement to the Chaos Space Marine’s Codex, the recently released Crimson Slaughter Codex provides information about unique artifacts and options for your existing Chaos Space Marines army.  As well, it provides a unique story that’s never before been told in the Warhammer 40K materials.

Legend of the Five Rings makes a major comeback this weekend with the launch of a freshly designed base set, the Ivory Edition, anchored by four new booster pack releases and a set of nine starter decks.  The classic nine clans are represented, including crab, scorpion, crane, and all the rest.

Somebody really needs to Asmadi Games to start play testing these games they’re releasing.

In the mean time, here’s another We Didn’t Playtest This edition, this time known as We Didn’t Playtest This Pasted-On Theme at All!  Adding another batch of original cards, this expansion also includes stick-on (paste not included) themes like zombie, pirate, elves, and more.  Not only do these themes make each card snazzier than before, they also change the endgame scenario.

While we’re on the topic of expansions, the popular education series, Timeline, gains another themed expansion this weekend.  Timeline: Music & Cinema plays just like the previous versions of the game with players attempting to lay cards from their hand in chronological order without seeing the dates.  In this specific expansion, all the cards relate to major moments or works in the music and film industries.

A loving homage to classic Dungeons & Dragons, Luke Crane’s Torchbearer RPG HC is all dungeon crawling all the time.

Building off of the Burning Wheel and Mouse Guard roleplaying systems, Torchbearer deals in deep, dank dungeons, heroic adventurers, and a hunt for glory.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler has finally swing his way into the Legendary deck-building game, and he’s brought along friends.  Another mini-expansion for Marvel‘s successful DBG, Paint the Town Red (trust us, the contents are better than the title) includes cards for the Black Symbiote Spider-Man, Moon Knight, Black Cat, Scarlet Spider, and Spider-Woman as well as Mastermind cards for Carnage and Mysterio.

When ya got a shiny video ’bout the new Firefly board game, what’s the point’a talkin’?  Just ignore the fact that they missed the shipping date by a month.

Marvel‘s first family finally comes to the hit deck-building game, Legendary.

This new expansion contains character decks for Johnny Storm, Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm, The Thing, and the Silver Surfer as well as baddies, Galactus and the Mole Man.  This expansion contains one hundred entirely original cards to be added into the base Legendary game.

Rogue Traders are on a thankless mission across the stars, spreading the word of the emperor to all.  And thankless may be a bit of a stretch, as they are well compensated by the missionaries they support.  Faith and Coin is a new supplemental for the Rogue Trader RPG system, that provides entirely new endeavors involving Rogue Traders and Missionaries.  Players will crush heretics, collect relics, and get embroiled in every other questionable action in between.

The fifth expansion pack in Against the Shadow cycle of The Lord of the Rings LCG, The Blood of Gondor, is out today!  This Adventure Pack introduces special scenario rules for hidden cards and the Black Númenorean.  Also included is an entirely new hero character and copies of player cards that enhance the Gondor setting.

Playing like a two-player version of Letters from Whitechapel or Fury of Dracula, Le Fantome de l’Opera is a head-to-head battle of wits set in the famous Phantom of the Opera narrative.  One player takes control of the investigator while the other controls the phantom, the former attempting to narrow down suspects while the latter eludes him at every turn.

If you remember one thing from tonight’s post, remember this:  My name is Inago Montoya, prepare to die.

Yes, folks, a party game that even those with six fingers can play.  The Princess Bride:  Prepare to Die is an Apples to Apples style party game made to accompany much drinking (just not poisoned wine) and possibly even mawage.  Rounds rotate judges and players, with each player using two decks of cards (names and Prepare to Die) to construct asinine sentences, like “My name is Diablo Festivas.  Prepare to shave your back.”
