Batman:  Joker’s Daughter #1 (One-shot)

-Not, we say NOT, written by Anne Nocenti, the writer who handled the Joker’s Daughter Villains Month issue (and for those who read it, you know why we’d mention this)!

-Instead, a better female writer, the up-and-coming Marguerite Bennett (a pupil of Scott Snyder), takes the reins.

-This one-shot issue further explores the twisted origins of the woman calling herself The Joker’s Daughter, as she continues her attempts at controlling the sewers and underground waterways of Gotham City.

-Bennett wrote the rather good Batman Annual #2 from last year as well as the Lobo Villains Month issue, showing a talent for constructing tight, focused done-in-one stories.

Punisher #1

-Nathan Edmondson has already delivered a successful All New Marvel NOW! series in the form of Black Widow.  What will he do with the Marvel Universe‘s most infamous vigilante?

-Frank Castle needs a change of scenery as he head’s out West.  A major crime syndicate has arisen in L.A., and The Punisher is hot on their trail.

-Edmondson excels at espionage tales as well as action narratives (as the first couple issues of Black Widow attest), so his style is perfectly suited to The Punisher.

-Oh, and did we mention that Frank’s not the only one on the hunt?  He’s got a mafia hit squad chasing him as he chases their bosses.

Loki, Agent of Asgard #1

-Forget Thor, we all know Loki‘s the real reason anyone goes to see any movie set in Asgard.

-With a brand new body, Loki is more mischievous than ever and ready to put that talent for mischief to good use.

-Al Ewing, who is writing the hell out of Mighty Avengers right now, unleashes his pure fun, classic Marvel style onto the Asgardian section of the universe.

-As an Agent of Asgard, this series will see Loki sent on covert missions, missions that rely on his talent for trickery.

Ms. Marvel #1

-Following in the footsteps of Kelly Sue Deconnick’s cult favorite Captain Marvel series, Ms. Marvel adds another Marvel series written by women for women about women.

-Kamala Khan is an entirely new hero for an All New Marvel NOW! era, both a teenager and a Muslim, Kamala adds some needed diversity to the Marvel Universe.

-A perfect entry point for teen readers, Ms. Marvel finds Kamala trying to balance an overbearing father, new superpowers, and the regular hormonal difficulties of high school.

-G. Willow Wilson (Air, Cairo) and Adrian Alphona (The Runaways, Uncanny X-Force) are, possibly, the most exciting creator pairing in the entire All New Marvel NOW! relaunch!

All New Marvel NOW Point One #1

-Ignore the goofy discrepancy of “Point One #1” and instead focus on the promising refresh of Marvel content present in this oversized issue!

-Like they did with Marvel NOW, this Point One issue is the easiest way to sample a handful of these new series without simply getting reprints of the first issue.  This oversized issue will contain entirely original content, content that will act as a prequel to the first issue of each represented character.

-The books that will be represented in this one shot include Dan Slott’s Silver Surfer, Al Ewing’s Loki: Agent of Asgard, Ms. Marvel, All-New Invaders, and two books that release on the same day, Black Widow and Avengers World.

-Each story featured within this issue will be drawn and written by the creators of their respected series, meaning quality shorts with no filler.

Avengers World #1

-Jonathan Hickman completes his trilogy of Avengers books with this third ongoing series.

-Stefano Caselli, a regular contributing artist to Hickman’s main Avengers book, returns to the characters as the main artist for this series.

-Hickman will separate this book from his other Avengers series by focusing on stand-alone arcs, not bogged down by Marvel Universe continuity or events.

-If you loved the space opera that was Infinity, then Hickman promises the same grand action and adventure in Avengers World.

Black Widow #1

-Character-centric is the name of the game for the All New Marvel NOW refresh, and Black Widow #1 is the epitome of that focus.

-Nathan Edmondson (Grifter, Who is Jake Ellis, Dancer), who helms the series, has made a reputation around writing smart, well researched espionage series, a talent which will benefit Widow’s secret agent agenda.

-Illustrated in Phil Noto’s gorgeous painterly style, Black Widow #1 emphasizes the grace and fluidity of Natasha’s acrobatics and abilities.

-Romanov is running solo in this series, freed from her Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. duties, as she searches for redemption from her past as a KGB assassin.

Detective Comics #27

-Superman‘s 75th year is over, now it’s The Dark Knight’s turn!

-DC Comics begins celebrating Batman‘s 75 years of existence with a bang in this extra long anniversary issue that shares its title and numbering with Batman‘s first appearance.

-In honor of the occasion, DC has pulled together an all-star cast of creators to contribute work, including Scott Snyder, Gregg Hurwitz, Guillem March, John Layman, Frank Miller, Mike Allred, Sean Murphy, Francesco Francavilla, and more!

-A major collector’s issue, Detective Comics #27 will feature a slew of variant covers by Frank Miller, Chris Burnham, Jason Fabok, and more.
