A new two player head-to-head card game has mosied into town, pards. This here game goes by the name’a Revolver. A simple game for a simpler time, Revolver has players choosing sides between lawmen and outlaws. Both sides receive different cards and victory goals, so choose wisely. And be quick on the draw!

If cowboys aren’t your bag, then maybe archaeologists are. Lost Temple barrows the style and thematic elements of games like Lost Cities and Jambo for a kid friendly board game that plays two to eight people. Each explorer has the goal of reaching the sacred temple before anyone else, conferring with natives and backstabbing their opponents along the way. With famous game creator Bruno Faidutti (Citadels, Key Largo) behind the game, you can bet it’ll be a good time.

If you’re into exploring the undiscovered and enjoy the ancient nerd past time known as Dungeons and Dragons, you might find some joy in the newest Survival Handbook for 4.0, Into the Unkown. A hardcover volume full of information helpful to both game masters and players in building or navigating the dark reaches of a fantasy horror-based dungeon. Along with the normal inclusion of new feats, equipment, powers, and such, this volume also introduces the kobold and goblin as player races. Grab a flashlight and get exploring!

If you had not previously invested in the A Song of Ice and Fire, now is the time too! The new A Game of Thrones edition of the core rulebook includes all the information present in the previous volume, excepted update through magical means…called editors. But that’s not all, the entire Peril at King’s Landing is also included.

Battletech is probably one of the most asked about miniature games I’ve ever encountered up at the store, so it gives me great pleasure to say that a new Battletech Introductory Box Set is currently in the store. This new box set comes with 26 miniatures, a rulebook, a booklet of record sheets, a longer 80-page rulebook, and every other notable element players will require to jump head first into robot mayhem.

In other words: BIG FREAKIN’ ROBOTS! PICK IT UP!

STAR WARS CARD SLEEVES!!!!!

Yes, hum the theme song in your head if you must. Fantasy Flight has released an exceptional limited run of specialty Star Wars backed card sleeves. So, play Magic with the man who shot first or catch’em all with Lord Vader or throw them on any other card game that needs some sci-fi spice. But whatever you do, pick them up before an X-Wing comes along and vaporizes them because there will not be any prequels here.

Of course, if space battles and laser swords aren’t your thing, maybe the other limited edition Lord of the Rings sleeves will be. Slip them over your favorite standard sized cards to give them a Samwise Gamgee to their Frodo Baggins. Or grasp the One Ring to rule all other swag-less individuals. Whatever you choose, wield them responsibly.

You want to kick your Warhammer Fantasy RPG game up to level 4? How about level 5? Then let Hero’s Call be Fantasy’s version of the Spinal Tap speaker! Chocked full of new hero and GM options for careers, action cards, talents, spells, and region options, this player’s resource is loaded with must-have ingredients for kicking your game up a couple levels.

Bringing Cthulhu to the deck-building party, Penny Arcade: Rumble in R’Lyeh is both a standalone game and an expansion for last year’s Penny Arcade: The Game, Gamers vs. Evil! So, players can enjoy Eldar God gaming goodness in the base 2-4 player version of the game or combine it with the previous game for excessive nerd overload. Rumble in R’Lyeh specifically adds Gold cards to the gameplay, which must be acquired through the use of Token and Power cards. Totally worth it when they have names like Gunhorse (a horse made of guns, duh!), Sad Zombie, and Gabe’s Gross Mouth.

Bridging books and board games, the Where the Wild Things Are board game from the Tales to Play series, lets families take control of Max’s journey to the land of the Wild Things. Each player controls a different Max miniature game piece on his trek through the becoming king of the Wild Things. Players draw cards and roll dice to decide their success or failure across the illustrated game board. Great gameplay and Wild Thing miniatures for the whole family.

Gamers have been waiting for this next exapnsion since somewhere around the dawn of man. Yes, has finally arrived. Adding not only a fifth player ability to the game, but a new item dubbed decoration. Players may now trade their resources for this item in an effort to gain further points. Club someone if you have too, fight a t-rex, do whatever you have to for a copy of this valued expansion.

If you’re unfamiliar, this is where we rush a game post by acting as if it’s purposeful by covering it up with fake snobbery. Also, the sentences will be rather short.

A rainbow of delights, bold, beautiful, ready to apply to the most recent of Warhammer Fantasy miniatures.

Shipping together, bound in plastic and packing peanuts: The Empire Codex and numerous new Warhammer Fantasy miniatures. Pick a paint and create.

Dust and debris flutter through the air as six guns are drawn from the hip. But, alas, the gunfighter’s sex changes mid fire. So is the lot of The Good, the Bad, and the Munchkin 2.

The odds are in your favor today, dear readers, for we have two Hunger Games…uh, games…freshly in stock.

The Hunger Games: District 12 is strategy heavy survival game where you and up to three other players attempt to remain alive in the harsh conditions of District 12. Fight to collect clothing, food, and other items as you try to avoid The Reaping. Or be sent to the Hunger Games as punishment.

Or, option 3, you could try the Jabberjay game. This Hunger Games…game (there’s no good way to say that) is two card games in one. The first game is similar to BANG! in that players each control a different Capitol or District Citizen, hiding their identity from all other players as they also attempt to make them flee. As the first game plays 5-12 people, a second 2-4 player game is also included. It is a cooperative game where players work together to protect citizens from the Peacekeepers.

If you remember the instantly addictive tile battling game, Pocket Battles, from a year or so back, you’ll be excited to hear there’s a new expansion deck out today. This time around it’s Macedonians versus Persians. If you haven’t played the game, it’s based around opponents creating armies out of their various tiles, then pitting against each other on three separate fronts. Pocket Battles is an easy game to pick up, in large part due to the fact that you can begin with any of the Versus Packs.

Next up we have two new additions to the insanely popular Agricola. These two individual decks of cards add a completely new experience to the classic board game. First, is the World Championship WM Deck. This deck was created at the first ever Agricola World Championship by its very own fans and players. The deck contains 115 new cards divided into five individual decks comprised, overall, of 60 Minor Improvements and 55 Occupations. Second, we have the NL Deck with 120 new cards. This deck adds a whole new thematic setting to the game, introducing players to the Netherlands. Both of these will expand and enliven the game, adding a whole new level of play.

Booze can also enliven any gaming experience, especially a full glass of wine. But what about a game about wine? Vinhos is just that game, being a resource control scenario where each player builds a wine empire over the course of 6 years/rounds by purchasing vineyards, gaining a reputation, and establishing a market. If you’re a lover of games like Belfort and Le Havre, Vinhos is you cup of…wine.

Similar in mechanics, but vastly different in theme is Lords of Waterdeep, a Dungeons & Dragons board game. Controlling a Lord of Waterdeep, players compete by purchasing buildings in the city, assigning agents to do your bidding, and spreading your influence further over the city. Offering a play style you’ve never experienced in the world of D&D, Lords of Waterdeep combines fantasy with strategic gaming.

Ten thirty? Yuuuup.

‘Kay, let’s get started.

Two restock items from the same company shipped in today; both are card games, both are colorfully designed.

First up, we’ve got The Big Idea. And what is The Big Idea, you may ask sniddly? Well, I’ll explain. You may be familiar with the game if you ever picked up the previous Cheapass Games version of it. Now, however, The Big Idea has been retooled as a complete party game. Players combine noun and adjective cards to create insane inventions that they then attempt to pitch to the other players. Every secretly votes on the best inventions and who ever ends up with the most approval wins the round. Add drinks and you’re good to go.

For the second I’ll need you pay close attention, ladies and gentlemen. As my lovely assitant takes the stage, please remain utterly quiet.

Yes, Illusio brings the magic, folks! A card game based around a battle of illusion, players choose which famous magician they want to control, then set out to trade off spells, slights-of-hand, and other parlor tricks in an effort to become the top trickster of the 1920′s.

Finally tonight there’s a new Dungeons and Dragons tile set on the block. This time around the setting is Cathedral of Chaos. As always, six tiles, double-sided tile sheets as well as tokens comprise this handy-dandy little supplemental pack.

Because we enjoy torturing our customers here at Pulp Fiction, allow me to wave some slick Warhammer 40K miniatures in front of your face then inform you they won’t be on sale until tomorrow.

Yeah, sorry about that.

However, if you are swinging by tomorrow you should look into the new Space Wolves and Necron miniatures for 40K. These include a Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf, Fenrisian Wolf Pack, the Thunderwolf Cavalry, and the new Tyranid Tyrannofex/Tervigon.

Showing its Dungeons & Dragons roots, Thunderstone Advance goes on sale today. Some folks out there may find that surprising to hear because the game isn’t officially scheduled for release until later in the month, but Pulp is allowed to sell the game early as a pre-release benefit. This redesign of the game refines many of the previous version’s elements. Mostly, the game works overtime to give players as many options to tailor their experience as they please. A new two-sided board lets players select the level of difficulty they wish to play as do the new monster card levels. If you’ve never gotten into the game before, but are a fan of D&D and/or Dominion, this is the time to start playing.

Triple the Dominion, triple the fun.

Following in the footsteps of Alhambra and Carcassonne, Dominion now has its own Big Box edition coming packed with three versions of the now classic deck building game. Those three versions, by the way, are Alchemy, Prosperity, and the original, base Dominion game. If you’ve never gotten into this hit card game, this is a great way to purchase three of excellent versions of the game for a cheaper price.

Today we also received a restock on some Indy RPGs that need a little love and affection. First up is Umlaut: Game of Metal, a storytelling, GM-less game akin to Fiasco where players create their own heavy metal groups then chart their rise to the top of the heap. On the darker side of things are Hot War and Cold City. Hot War is set after an apocalyptic Cold War-era nuclear barrage, giving gamers a setting of horrific violence and power-jockeying survivors to explore. Cold City is a companion volume set in Berlin after the terrors of WWII. Players command the Reserve Police Agency as they round up monstrous creatures risen from the ashes of the war.

………….

Okay, that’s a fair amount of appreciation. Now for some words of explanation. The red-centric deck, Gleeful Flames, comes equipped with two Inkmoth Nexuses and a bunch of other strong red cards, while the green-centric deck, Spiraling Doom, includes Grim Backwoods, Myr Battlesphere, and Solemn Simulacrum along with a bunch of other tasty stuff. So grab an Event Deck and get dominating at the next tournament.

Doubtfully the final frontier, Alien Frontiers is the highly demanded Kickstarter success of last year. A cleverly designed, beautiful looking colinization game for up to four players, Alien Frontiers has players battling for resources and building colonies in an effort to take command of this vast planetscape.

Speaking of planetary control,Twilight Imperium Rex does not stray away from the world domination mechanics. Based on the system and mechanics of the classic Dune board game (entirely related to the cult classic novels and movies), Rex is a recreation of the same political power struggle present in the first version of the game. Covering three to six players, Rex needs to simultaneously sought by all of them because it will be gone as quick as a sandworm in a drought.

If your hankering for evil beings isn’t satiated yet, then grab your coat and head on over for Nightfall: The Coldest War. This new stand-alone expansion for the popular horror-centric deck building game comes with a wide range of brand new cards. These include completely original starting minions and moon phase cards that expand the game to a global scale. All the wound cards in this set are also entirely redeisnged and re-illustrated.

Speaking of game heavily populated by werewolves and the like, fans of the spooky and nerdy may be intersted in the restock we received on Vampire Werewolf Fairies. Yes, all three are in the same game. And the ultimate goal is to combine as many character types into one super creature or just beef up a single vampire, werewolf, or fairy until your the top dog. For even more fan-tacular action, combine the game with its expansion Zombie Ninja Pirates. Guess what comes in it?

With the new supplemental edition of Deathwatch, The Jericho Reach, gamers take on the role of border patrol Space Marines who guard the titled reach from utter annihilation. In this hardcover, Deathwatch fanatics will find details on all the planets in the Reach, the races that encompass it, all the special abilities at the Marines disposal, and the beasties of Hive Fleet Dagon. How much more distopia can you ask for?

Lastly, lets mosey on outta all this here dark, futury nonsense and get on back to the days’a the West with the new Bang: Gold Rush expansion. The first new expansion for the game in a spell, Gold Rush adds gold nugget cards that will allow participants to purchase new weaponary and equipment. But beware, the shadow-gunslingers have arrived and they’re aiming to shoot you down. Keep one of the most fun games around fresh and exciting by adding this set of cards to the base.

Right. But then ya also got these new critters dey call Shadow Goblins. Dey come from da other side a da portal, see?

So goes the story for the first expansion to the hit deck building game, Gozu. Last time around, players were introduced to a type of goblin, the Dark Goblin, that could trap other goblins. Here the Shadow goblins come with a similar power along with a zombie mutation ability. Ultimately, if you wish to freshen up your base game, Kamakor will offer gamers a new type of goblin to challenge them and their opponents.

When your box says “Embrace the madness!” on the back you know you’re doing something right. Such is the case for the newest set of Dungeons & Dragons Fortune Cards. Spyral of Tharizdun introduces 80 new cards into the adventure, each adding extra abilities and skills to your average encounter. Use them correctly, and your party will gain formidability without dredging itself in complication. And if you want to get a first hand example of how they work, come visit Pulp on any Wednesday night at 8:00 for D&D Encounters.

Sure Storm and Thor can toss about lightning bolts and whatnot, but they won’t be anything compared to whoever picks up the new D&D Heroes of the Elemental Chaos HC. Venturing deep into the realm of those who wield the elements, this Player’s Option introduces the new class options of sha’ir wizard and sorcerer while also supplying new character themes, feats, powers, paragon paths, epic destinies, and elemental companions. Put on some Earth, Wind, and Fire then rock the campaign like your very own Avatar the Last Airbender!

Game make Game Caveman happy.

Game Caveman not smart enough for Power Grid. Game Caveman CAN play First Sparks!

Okay, that’s enough of you Cavey. That’s right, though, folks, a new version of Power Grid, The First Sparks releases today!

A standalone edition, The First Sparks maintains most of the original game’s mechanics, but transports the gameplay to the first days of human existence. Keeping with the theme of early man, the game moves faster than the original, while also adding new elements of play. Players work to build better equipment for hunting and surviving in the wilderness while also attempting to keep the rest of their tribe alive. So, in the words of Game Caveman: Rrrrrgggghh, game good.

A bit of trivia for you folks out there, Clint Eastwood’s classic western, A Fistful of Dollars, was originally titled A Fistful of Penguins. Sergio Leone changed it, though, for fear that audiences wouldn’t get the inclusion of an Arctic animal in the desert. Luckily, the new A Fistful of Penguins game reclaims the title. Another dice game in a series of popular dice rolling games like Zombie Dice, BEARS!, and Martian Dice, this time around players are attempting to collect various animals for their zoo. Be forewarned, though, each animal comes with their own benefit and flaw. Having a fistful of penguin tokens, however, will always help you gain more dice. A fun, quick little game for the family, A Fistful of Penguins takes the best of dice games and Zooleretto, binds them together, and delivers a good time for all.

Captain’s log 4458. WizKids has yet again released an appealing miniatures game, this time based around the ships and battles of Star Trek. For the record, there are two ways to collect and acquire these prepainted ship miniatures. One, would be to pick up a Star Trek Heroclix Tactics box set, which comes with four key ships, including the Enterprise. Two, would be to beam up one or more of the individual Star Trek boosters, each coming a single, random ship. Both are perfect for use with any Star Trek miniature game, such as Expeditions or Fleet Captains.

And speaking of Expeditions, it should be noted that a new expansion set for the game also shipped today. Containing three new characters (Sulu, Scotty, and Chekov) and their character cards, when playing with this expansion the game will now be able to accommodate up to five players at once.

As the Apostasy Gambit reaches its climax, the third chapter in the Dark Heresy adventures RPG makes its entrance. This supplemental edition, Chaos Commandment, presents four new chapters for gameplay, all focusing on the Acolytes and their effort to save the Calixis Sector.

Anyone who doesn’t like pandas has no heart. It’s just a fact, people. So, if you have a heart, love pandas, and want to see them thrive, then Takenoko is your game. Players raise and care for bamboo crops, of various varieties, in an effort to feed and keep the emperor’s panda happy. Colorful game pieces, artwork, and miniatures combined with fun, easy to learn gameplay, make Takenoko quite the enjoyable experience. That and pandas.

Ecpecto gamtronum!

Though Wiz-War is indeed about wizards, they are not the cutesy, lovable kind from Harry Potter. These wizards are greedy and desperate to beat their opponents into the pavement. To do so, two to four players compete with spells of varying types across a segmented board. Updated from the classic game created by Tom Jolly, Wiz-War is the newest version of the classic wizard battle game.
