Find a crew.  Find a job.  Keep flying.

Back in stock after a couple weeks is the Firefly:  Out of the Black card game!  The famous idiom above is also the basic mechanics of the game.  A cooperative card game by design, players play different members of a Firefly class ship with everyone working together to beat the random obstacles generated by the game’s AI.  Overcoming these obstacles gains everyone honor and credit, which can also be taken from you.  If it’s all gone, the game ends.

It’s all about the rocks in Splendor!

A card collection game, Splendor is a two to four player game with accessible rules.  On each turn, players can perform three various actions, each with their own unique consequences.  Gems can be acquired, cards can be collected, and other cards can be reserved for pick-up on a later turn.  Gems and cards can be turned in for bigger points, with the hope of attaining the most by game’s end.

Fantasy Flight keeps the printing presses busy yet again with two more pack expansions for Netrunner and the Star Wars LCGs.

First up is the final Data Pack expansion in the Spin Cycle for Netrunner, Double Down.  This sixty card expansion adds special double event cards that require players to spend a click in addition to the card’s normal play cost, making them a bold gamble with a possible major payoff.

The Force is becoming stronger with the first expansion Force Pack in a new cycle of the Star Wars LCG.  Heroes and Legends increases the power of the force on both the Imperial and Rebel sides.

Formula D:  Circuits 5 – New Jersey & Sotchi is the newest set of board expansion for the highly popular racing game.  Included in this expansion are new tracks for the Sotchi Winter Olympics village, designed and illustrated by Herman Tilke, an actual architect of Formula D race tracks, as well as the New Jersey board, which has nineteen high-speed turns.

The largely popular dungeon crawler Descent receives four new miniature figures to add to the base game.  Each of these figures comes equipped with fortune and threat tokens and character cards.  The four miniatures out this weekend are Rylan Olliven, Verminous, Tristayne Olliven, and Gargan Mirklace.

An underdog surprise hit, Fleet, the fish boat card game, gains its first expansion this weekend in Arctic Bounty.  Outside of including variant one and two player rules, Arctic Bounty allows players to combine the new license and boat cards with the base Fleet game.  This combination allows for a large amount of variety, keeping the game as challenging and inventive as you want.

A second enchanting expansion to the mage battle game, Seasons, as appeared in the store this weekend.  Path of Destiny includes over sixty expansion cards, including forty new power card and ten enchantment cards, as well as six additional special ability tokens.

While you may have gorged yourself on the requisite Thanksgiving feast, we hope you saved room for a special Black Friday follow-up meal, starting at 10am on Friday:

1. Forget canned, the several “doorbuster” items (specially marked down at half or lower price) are all natural.

2. Make sure to slather your half off on t-shirts and plush toys with gravy (pouring gravy on your new Black Friday purchases is not actually endorsed by Pulp Fiction).

Fantasy Flight, much like The Khaleesi, continues to march forward with new Adventure Packs.  The Kingsguard is out today and is the third part of the Kingsroad cycle.  As per usual, the deck contains sixty original cards, many of which enhanced the game’s Shadow mechanic.

Piazo unleashed a near truckload of Pathfinder books this weekend, including the Bestiary 4 hardcover.  The rest of this mountain of books includes:

Pathfinder RPG: Reign of Winter Pawn Collection

Pathfinder RPG: Blood of the Moon
Pathfinder RPG: Seedy Tavern Flip-Mat
Pathfinder RPG: Dungeon Corridors Map Pack
Pathfinder RPG: Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path 3: Demon’s Heresy
Pathfinder RPG: Towns of the Inner Sea

As well, the hotly anticipated second expansion pack for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, The Skinsaw Murders, also launched this weekend.  While supplies last, each purchase of The Skinsaw Murders receives a limited edition Blessing of Zarongel promo card.

Nearly a collector’s item before they even go on sale, the Magic the Gathering 2013 Commander Decks are in limited supply and desperately sought after.  These decks come pre-built for the Commander/EDH format, which are comprised of 100 cards (only one of each) and a general/commander card that is in charge of them.  A rising format in MtG, these Commander Decks allow you to catch up without have to hunt down tons of expensive cards.

Hopefully you’ve got some extra space in that airplane hanger in your backyard because Wings of Glory unleashes a full fleet of new plane miniatures.  Included within these three new planes is the much anticipated Mustangs.  For those technical junkies out there, here’s the official titles for each plane:

Wings of Glory WWII: Focke-Wulf FW-190 (German)
Wings of Glory WWII: P-51 Mustang (USA)
Wings of Glory WWII: Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (Fujimoto)

The Walking Dead has pervaded nearly ever aspect of culture since it first showed up on AMC, and so it’s about dang time it received that final test of pop culture-dom:  a Risk game.  If you haven’t played Risk you’re obviously an alien, so it’s pretty easy to imagine how this version is an appropriation of Walking Dead‘s characters and locations by the regional warfare of Risk.

One of the best family games ever created, Carcassonne, receives two new additions this weekend.  First up, another version of the base game, set, however, during a harsh winter instead of the lush spring.  This Carcassonne Winter Edition also includes the Gingerbread expansion.  Along with this is another collection of previously released expansions, including the Count, King, and Robber.

Before we get too deep into the actual brand new gaming, a quick shout out to some long out of print games who reappeared on shelves today!

First up, the desperately sought Ghost Stories:  White Moon expansion combines two formerly released, and long out of print expansion, into one redesigned box.  Both of them alter the game experience slightly, by adding an extra task for the monks, that being the protection and saving of villagers.

Planet Steam also receives a make-over this week, along with a price drop.  Now contained within a concise square box, this version of Planet Steam still delivers the same steampunk resource management experience, with players competing to build dirigibles, overtake territory, and collect resources.

Since we’re already talking about steampunky stuff, why not continue with the new Kings of Air and Steam?

Structured similarly to Wings of War and the Star Wars X-Wing miniature game, Kings of Air and Steam has players controlling giant steam-powered ships by placing four movement cards per turn.  Each card is revealed one at a time, interspersed with actions, until all of them have been flipped.  However, the plot thickens as an added element of resource management spices up the miniature battle gameplay.

The recently released hit, Village, receives its first expansion this weekend in Village:  Inn.  Literally expanding the village, this addition provides two new buildings, the brewery and the titular inn.  The brewery, not shockingly, produces a beer craft, while the inn allows players to meet other residents of the town (in the form of cards).  Life is always more interesting with a couple friends and a couple beers!

More Munchkin is never a bad thing, especially when it comes to organizing the game better.

Munchkin Level Playing Field is another Munchkin accessory, allowing players to more easily track their character’s levels with a unique tracking board and specially colored male/female tokens.  As will all Steve Jackson expansion, this addition also includes four entirely original cards to be added to the base game.  Also, absent from last week’s post, but totally on the shelves, is the Munchkin Dragons booster pack expansion.

What if John Wilkes Booth simply stole Lincoln’s stovepipe hat instead of shooting him through it?

The successfully Kickstarted Pixel Lincoln deck building game sets out to answer that very question.  The simple answer is that Lincoln will follow him through the farthest reaches of time in order to get it back!  Players collect cards to enhance their decks, all so that they can restore the space time continuum.  Four score and seven years ago, Lincoln got pixelated!

The pulpy adventuring of the Spirit of the Century RPG system now bombard the world of board gaming!  Race to Adventure:  The Spirit of the Century Exploration Game (possibly the most concisely descriptive title I’ve ever seen) is exactly what it sounds like:  a race across the globe facilitated by wacky pulp-influenced devices.  Along the way, players also collect unique artifacts and equipment in every country they land in.  Get to the end before you’re vaporized by a coal powered ray gun.

Finally, the first deluxe expansion for the mega-popular Netrunner redux has shipped.

Creation and Control includes 165 new cards, nearly thirty of which are entirely faction neutral, able to influence and enhance any deck.

Don’t let those fat cat bureaucrats at Haas-Bioroid win!
